Chapter 14

Update:  2024.01.28

Rom. 14:1 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) cause yourselves to take to yourselves (proslambanesthe) the one (ton) being disabled (asthenounta) to the (tē) belief (pistei);

not (mē) into (eis) dialogues (dialogismōn) of thorough judgments (diakriseis).

Rom. 14:2 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (men), [there is] one who (hos) believes (pisteuei) to eat (phagein) all things (panta)!

But (de) the one (ho) being [a] disabled one (asthenōn) eats (esthiei) cultivated plants3001 (lachana)!

Rom. 14:3 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) eating (esthiōn), <do> not () reject as being absolutely nothing (exoutheneitō) the one (ton) not (mē) eating (esthionta)!

But (de) the one (ho) not (mē) eating (esthionta), do not judge (mē krinetō) the one (ton) eating (esthionta), because (gar) the (ho) God (theos) <caused himself to take> him (auton) to himself (proselabeto)!

Rom. 14:4 (LIT/UBS4) Who (tis) are (ei) you (su), the one (ho) judging (krinōn) [a] householder (oiketēn) of another (allotrion)?

To the (tō) lord (kuriō), his own (idiō), he stands (stēkei) or (ē) he falls (piptei).

But (de) he shall be stood (stathēsetai), because (gar) the (ho) lord (kurios) is inherently powered (dunatei) to stand (stēsai) him (auton).

Rom. 14:5 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), truly (men), [there, AE] [is] one who (hos) regards (krinei) [a] day (hēmeran) aside (par’) [from another, AE] day (hēmeran)!

But (de) [there, AE] [is] one who (hos) regards (krinei) every (pasan) day (hēmeran) [alike, AE].

<Let> each (hekastos) [day, RE] be fulfilled (plērophoreisthō) in (en) the (tō) mind (noi) [of] one's own (idiō).

Rom. 14:6 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) thinking (phronōn) of the (tēn) day (hēmeran), he thinks (phronei) [of the] lord (kuriō).

And (kai) the one (ho) eating (esthiōn), he eats (esthiei) [to the] lord (kuriō);

because (gar) he gives thanks well (eucharistei) to the (tō) God (theō).

And (kai) the one (ho) not (mē) eating (esthiōn), he absolutely does not eat (ouk esthiei) [to the] lord (kuriō);

and (kai) he gives thanks well (eucharistei) to the (tō) God (theō)!

Rom. 14:7 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) absolutely not one (oudeis) of us (hēmōn) lives (zē) for himself (heautō), and absolutely not one (oudeis) [of us, RE] dies away (apothnēskei) for himself (heautō)!

Rom. 14:8 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), if perhaps (ean) both (te) may live (zōmen), we live (zōmen) to the (tō) lord (kuriō).

If perhaps (ean) both (te) may die away (apothnēskōmen), we die away (apothnēskōmen) to the (tō) lord (kuriō).

Therefore (oun), if perhaps (ean) both (te) may live (zōmen), if perhaps (ean) both (te) may die away (apothnēskōmen), we are (semen) of the (tou) lord (kuriou).

Rom. 14:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) into (eis) [the sake, AE] of this (touto) Christ (christo) died away (apethanen), and (kai) lived (ezēsen):

in order that2443 (hina) he may be lord (kurieusē) <of> both (kai) dead ones (nekrōn) and (kai) of ones living (zōntōn)!

(For which thoughts we are to disciple ourselves to think, see Rom. 8:5-8, 12:2-3, 15-19, 14:4-9, 15:4-7; 1 Cor. 13:11, 14:20; 2 Cor. 13:11; Gal. 5:7-10; Phil. 1:3-7, 2:1-11, 3:8-19; Col. 3:1-15)

Rom. 14:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) you (su), why (ti) judge (krineis) the (ton) brother (adelphon) of you (sou)?

Or (ē), you (su) also (kai), why (ti) reject as absolutely nothing (exoutheneis) the (ton) brother (adelphon) of you (sou)?

Because (gar) we all shall cause ourselves to stand alongside (pantes parastēsometha) the (tō) step of the tribune968 (bēmati) of the (tou) God (theou);

Rom. 14:11 (LIT/UBS4) because (gar) it has been written (gegraptai), ‘I (egō) live (zō), says (legei) [the] Lord (kurios), ‘that (hoti) to me (emoi) every (pan) knee (gonu) shall bend2578 (kampsei), and (kai) every (pasa) tongue (glossa) shall cause itself to confess out (exomologēsetai) to the (tō) God (theō).’

(See Isa. 45:23)

Rom. 14:12 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), so (ara) each one (hekastos) of us (hēmōn) shall give (dōsei) [a] word (logon) about (peri) himself (heautou) to the (tō) God (theō).

Rom. 14:13 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), no longer yet (mēketi) may we judge (krinōmen) one another (allēlous).

BUT (alla), of the (to) [brother, v10, RE], you judge (krinate) this (touto) more (mallon), not (mē) to place (tithenai) [[a] stone] of stumbling (proskomma) for the (tō) brother (adelphō), or (ē) [[a] rock] of scandal (skandalon)!

(For the promised redeemer becoming a stumbling stone and a rock of offence to the two houses of Israel, see Isa. 8:14, 28:16; Rom. 9:32-33; 1 Pet. 2:8)

Rom. 14:14 (LIT/UBS4) I have seen (oida), and (kai) I have been persuaded (pepeismai) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō) Jesus (Iēsou), that (hoti) absolutely not one (ouden) [food, v15, RE] [is] common (koinon) through (di’) [the sake, AE] of itself (heautou), if (ei) not (mē) to the one (tō) causing himself to count3049 (logizomenō) something (ti) to be (einai) common (koinon)!

To that one (ekeinō) [it, AE] [is] common (koinon).

Rom. 14:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of food (brōma) the (ho) brother (adelphos) of you (sou) is caused to grieve (lupeitai), you absolutely no longer yet walk around (ouketi peripateis) down according to (kata) love (agapēn)!

Do not lose (mē apollue) that one (ekeinon) for the (tō) food (brōmati) of you (sou), over (huper) whom (hou) Christ (Christos) died away (apethanen)!

Rom. 14:16 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), do not let be blasphemed (blasphēmeisthō) the (to) good (agathon) of you (humōn).

Rom. 14:17 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (hē) Kingdom932 (basileia) of the (tou) God (theou) is absolutely not (ou estin) eating (brōsis) and (kai) drinking (posis), BUT (alla), righteousness (dikaiosunē), and (kai) peace (eirēnē), and (kai) joy (chara) in (en) holy (hagiō) Spirit (pneumati)!

Rom. 14:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the one (ho) in (en) to this (toutō), [the one, RE] slaving (douleuōn) for the (tō) Christ (Christō), [is] [a] well agreeable one (euarestos) to the (tō) God (theō), and (kai) [an] approved one (dokimos) to the (tois) mortals (anthrōpois).

Rom. 14:19 (LIT/UBS4) So (ara), therefore (oun), may we pursue (diōkōmen) the things (ta) of the (tēs) peace (eirēnēs), and (kai) the things (ta) of the (tēs) domed-roof house3619 (oikodomēs), of the one (tēs) into (eis) one another (allēlous).

Rom. 14:20 (LIT/UBS4) Do not bring down (mē katalue) the (to) work (ergon) of the (tou) God (theou) on account of (heneken) food (brōmatos)!

Truly (men), all things (panta) [are] cleansed (kathara)!

BUT (alla), [all things, RE] [are] malicious (kakon) to the (tō) mortal (anthrōpō), to the (tō) [mortal, RE] stumbling (proskommatos) through (dia) eating (esthionti).

Rom. 14:21 (LIT/UBS4) The one (to) [slaving, v18, RE] neither (mē) to eat (phagein) meat (krea), but nor (mēde) to drink (piein) wine (oinon), but nor (mēde) [anything, AE] in (en) which (hō) the (ho) brother (adelphos) of you (sou) strikes (proskoptei) [[a] foot, vMat. 4:6; Luke 4:11, RE], [is] [a] beautiful one (kalon)!

Rom. 14:22 (LIT/UBS4) You (su), of [the] belief (pistin) which (hēn) you hold (echeis) down according to (kata) yourself (seauton), hold (eche) [[the] belief, RE ] in sight (enōpion) of the (tou) God (theou)!

[A] happy one (makarios) [is] the one (ho) not (mē) judging (krinōn) himself (heauton) in (en) what (hō) he approves (dokimazei).

Rom. 14:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de), the one (ho) causing himself to thoroughly question (diakrinomenos) [what he approves, 22, RE] has been condemned (katakekritai) if perhaps (ean) he may eat (phagē), because (hoti) [he eats, RE] absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of belief (pisteōs)!

But (de) everything (pan) which (ho) [is] [eaten, RE] absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of belief (pisteōs) is (estin) sin (hamartia)

(See Heb. 6:6)
