Chapter 8

Update:  2024.01.31

Rom. 8:1 (LIT/UBS4) So (ara) now (nun) [there, AE] [is] absolutely not one (ouden) condemnation (katakrima) to the ones (tois) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou)!

Rom. 8:2 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) law (nomos) of the (autou) Spirit (pneumatos) of the (tēs) life (zōēs) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsous) made you free (ēleutherōsen se) from (apo) the (tou) law (nomou) of the (tou) sin (hamartias) and (kai) of the (tou) death (thanatou).

Rom. 8:3 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) of the (to) inherently unpowered ability (adunaton) of the (tou) law (nomou), in (en) which (hō) it was being disabled (ēsthenei) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) flesh (sarkos), the (ho) God (theos) having sent (pempsas) the (ton) son (huion) of himself (heautou) in (en) [a] likeness (homoiōmati) of flesh (sarkos) of sin (hamartias), and (kai) about (peri) sin (hamartias), he condemned (katekrinen) the (tēn) sin (hamartian) in (en) the (tē) flesh (sarki);

Rom. 8:4 (LIT/UBS4) in order that2443 (hina) the (to) righteous purpose (dikaiōma) of the (tou) law (nomou) may be fulfilled (plērōthē) in (en) us (hēmin), the ones (tois) not (mē) walking around (peripatousin) down according to (kata) flesh (sarka), BUT (alla), down according to (kata) Spirit (pnema)!

Rom. 8:5 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the ones (hoi) being (ontes) down according to (kata) flesh (sarkos) think (phronousin) of the (tēs) the things (ta) of flesh (sarkos).

But (de) the ones (hoi) [being, RE] down according to (kata) Spirit (pneuma) [think, RE] of the (tou) the things (ta) of Spirit (pneumatos).

Rom. 8:6 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (to) thought (phronēma) of the (tēs) flesh (sarkos) [is] death (thanatos), but (de) the (to) thought (phronēma) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos) [is] life (zōē) and (kai) peace (eirēnē);

Rom. 8:7 (LIT/UBS4) through the reason that (dioti) the (to) thought (phronēma) of the (tēs) flesh (sarkos) [is] hatefulness (echthra) into (eis) God (theon):

because (gar) [hatefulness, RE] can absolutely not be put in submission5293 (ouch hupotassetai) to the (tō) law (nomō) of God (theou);

because (gar) [hatefulness, RE] can but absolutely not inherently power itself (oude dunatai) [to be] [put in submission, RE]!

Rom. 8:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the ones (hoi) being (ontes) in (en) flesh (sarki) can absolutely not inherently power themselves (ou dunantai) to be agreeable (aresai) to God (theō)!

(For which thoughts we are to disciple ourselves to think, see Rom. 8:5-8, 12:2-3, 15-19, 14:4-9, 15:4-7; 1 Cor. 13:11, 14:20; 2 Cor. 13:11; Gal. 5:7-10; Phil. 1:3-7, 2:1-11, 3:8-19; Col. 3:1-15)

(For the soul-based, demon-like wisdom of mortalkind see 1 Cor. 2:13-14; *James 3:15; Jude 1:19; John 3:6; Rom. 8:5-8)

Rom. 8:9 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) you (humeis) are (este) absolutely not (ouk) in (en) flesh (sarki), BUT (alla), in (en) Spirit (pneumati), if so be it (eiper) Spirit (pneuma) of God (theou) homesteads (oikei) in (en) you (humin)

But (de) if (ei) anyone (tis) absolutely does not hold (ouk echei) Spirit (pneuma) of Christ (Christou), this (houtos) [anyone, RE] is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) of him (autou)

(See 1 Cor. 2:14; 15:44, 46; James 3:15; Jude 1:19; John 3:6; Rom. 8:9)

Rom. 8:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) Christ (Christos) [is] in (en) you (humin), truly (men), the (to) body (sōma) [is] dead (nekron) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of sin (hamartian)!

But (de) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) [is] life (zōē) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of righteousness (dikaiosunēn).

(For the loving one of the God having been poured out in to the hearts of us, see Rom. 5:5, 15, 8:8-10; 1 Cor. 16:22-24; Col. 1:27.)

Rom. 8:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) of the one (tou) having awakened (egeirantos) Jesus (Iēsoun) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn) homesteads (oikei) in (en) you (humin), the one (ho) having awoken (egeiras) Christ (Christon) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn) shall make alive (zōopoiēsei) the (ta) death-doomed (thnēta) bodies (sōmata) of you (humōn) also (kai), through (dia) the (to) in-housing (enoikountos) Spirit (pneuma) of him (autou) in (en) you (humin)

(For the God, under his new covenant, being IN believers, and he working IN and THROUGH them, see Lev. 26:11-12; Ezek. 11:19-20, 36:25-27; Mat. 13:33; Luke 17:20-21; John 3:3-8, 14:20-21, 26, 17:14-21; Rom. 8:8-11; 1 Cor. 3:16-17, 6:19-20; 2 Cor. 4:3-7, 6:14-7:1, 13:3-5, 14; Gal. 1:15-16, 2:20, 4:18-19; Eph. 2:17-22, 3:14-19; Col. 1:27; 2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. 3:6, 13:20-21; 1 John 3:23-24, 4:7-8, 15-16)

(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)

(For the Spirit of God being in Christ, and the Spirit of Christ being in those who believe upon his name, making them more than conquerors now, see Mat. 10:25; Acts 1:4-8; Rom. 8:9-11, 37; 1 Cor. 12:6; 2 Cor. 2:14, 13:3-5; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 1:19-20, 4:13, 6:13-18; Phil. 2:13, 4:13; Col. 1:27-29; 1 Thes. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:7; 1 John 4:4, 5:4-5)

Rom. 8:12 (LIT/UBS4) So (ara) therefore (oun), brothers (adelphoi), we are (esmen) absolutely not (ou) debtors (opheiletai) to the (tē) flesh (sarki) of the (tou) [body, v10, RE], to live (zēn) down according to (kata) flesh (sarka)!

Rom. 8:13 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) you live (zēte) down according to (kata) flesh (sarka) you are about (mellete) to die away (apothnēskein)!

But (de) if (ei), [down according to, RE] Spirit (pneumati), you put to death (thanatoute) the (tas) practices (praxeis) of the (tou) body (sōmato), you shall cause yourselves to live (zēsesthe)!

Rom. 8:14 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) as many as (hosoi) are led (agontai) [through, v11, AE] Spirit (pneumati) of God (theou), these ones (houtoi) are (eisin) sons (huioi) of God (theou).

Rom. 8:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) you absolutely did not receive (ou elabete) [a] spirit (pneuma) of slavery (douleias) again (palin) into (eis) fear (phobon)!

BUT (alla), you received (elabete) Spirit (pneuma) of sonship (huiothesias), in (en) to which (hō) we cry (krazomen), “Abba (abba)”, the (ho) Father (patēr)!

Rom. 8:16 (LIT/UBS4) The (to) Spirit (pneuma) itself (auto) witnesses together with (summarturei) the (tō) Spirit (pneumati) of us (hēmōn) that (hoti) we are (esmen) ones born (tekna) of God (theou).

(See Rom. 8:1-16; Eph. 4:23; 2 Tim. 1:7)

Rom. 8:17 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) [we are, v16, RE] ones born (tekna) [of God, v16, RE], [we are, v16, RE] heirs (klēronomoi) also (kai), true (men) heirs (klēronomoi) of God (theou);

but (de) [we are, v16, RE] heirs together with (sunklēronomoi) Christ (Christou) if so be it (eiper) we suffer together with (sumpaschomen) [Christ, RE];

in order that (hina) we may be glorified together with (sundoxasthōmen) [Christ, RE] also (kai)!

Rom. 8:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) [we are ones born of God, v16, RE], I am caused to count3049 (logizomai) that (hoti) the (ta) sufferings (pathēmata) of the (tou) time (kairou) now (nun) [are] absolutely not ones worthy (ouk axia) for (pros) the (tēn) glory (doxan) being about (mellousan) to be revealed (apokaluphthēnai) in (eis) us (hēmas)!

Rom. 8:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), <from> the (hē) earnest supposition (apokaradokia) of the (tēs) creation (ktiseōs) it causes itself to receive out from (apekdechetai) [God, AE] the (tēn) revelation (apokalupsin) of the (tōn) sons (huiōn) of the (tou) God (theou).

Rom. 8:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) [of the revelation of the sons of God, v19, RE] the (hē) creation (ktisis) <was> absolutely not (ouch) willing (hekousa) to be put in submission5293 (hupetagē) to the (tē) emptiness (mataiotēti),

BUT (alla), [it was put in submission, RE] through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the one (ton) having put it in submission5293 (hupotaxanta) over (eph’) hope (helpidi);

Rom. 8:21 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) [it was put in submission, RE] because (hoti), the (hē) creation (ktisis) herself (autē) shall be made free (eleutherōthēsetai) from (apo) the (tēs) slavery (douleias) of the (tēs) corruption (phthoras), into (eis) the (tēn) glory (doxēs) of the (tēs) freedom (eleutherian) of the (tōn) ones born (teknōn) of the (tou) God (theou)!

Rom. 8:22 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we have seen (oidamen) that (hoti) all (pasa) the (hē) creation (ktisis) groans altogether (sustenazei), and (kai) spasms altogether (sunōdinei), until (achri) the (tou) [time, AE] now (nun).

Rom. 8:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) absolutely not (ou) only (monon) [the creation, v22, RE], BUT (alla), they (autoi) also (kai) [groan and spasm altogether, v22, RE], ones holding (echontes) the (tēn) beginning offering (aparchēn) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos);

(For a beginning offering see John 6:35-40; Rom. 8:23, 11:16, 16:5; 1 Cor. 15:20-23, 16:15; Heb. 11:1-6; James 1:17-19; Rev. 14:4)

we (hēmeis) and (kai) they (autoi) groan (stenazomen) in (en) ourselves (heautois), causing ourselves to receive out from (apekdechomenoi) sonship (huiothesian) the (tēn) redemption (apolutrōsin) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) of us (hēmōn)!

Rom. 8:24 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) for the (tē) hope (elpidi) we were made whole (esōthēmen).

But (de) hope (elpis) being looked at (blepomenē) is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) hope (elpis)!

Because (gar) does anyone hope (tis elpizei) for what (ho) he looks at (blepei)?

Rom. 8:25 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) we hope (elpizomen) for what (ho) we absolutely do not see (ou blepomen), through (di) endurance (hupomonēs) we cause ourselves to receive [it, AE] out from (apekdechometha) [God, v21, RE]!

Rom. 8:26 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) in the same manner (hōsautōs) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) also (kai) causes itself to receive together with (sunantilambanetai) [us, AE] the (tē) disability (astheneia) of us (hēmōn).

Because (gar) we have absolutely not seen (ouk oidamen) the (to) [disability, RE] of which (ti) [wholeness, v25, RE] we may cause ourselves to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuxōmetha) [God, AE], down as (kathos) it is required (dei)!

BUT (alla), the (to) Spirit (pneuma) itself (auto) intercedes over (huperentunchanei) [us, AE], [causing itself to make, RE] unspoken (alalētois) groanings (stenagmois)!

Rom. 8:27 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) [God, AE] searching (eraunōn) the (tas) hearts (kardias), he has seen (oiden) what (ti) [is] the (to) thought (phronēma) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos), that (hoti) down according to (kata) God (theon) it intercedes (entunchanei) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of holy ones (hagiōn).

(For the normal and common practice of the church to speak in tongues to pray to God, see Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4-11, 10:46, 19:6; Rom. 8:26-27; 1 Cor. 12:3, 30, 13:1, 14:2-28, 39; Eph. 6:18; Col. 4:3; Jude 1:20)

Rom. 8:28 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) we have seen (oidamen) that (hoti) for the ones (tois) loving (agapōsin) the (ton) God (theon)  he works together (sunergei) all things (panta) into (eis) good (agathon), for the ones (tois) being (ousin) called aloud (klētois) down according to (kata) [a/the] preparation (prothesin) [of him, AE];

Rom. 8:29 (LIT/UBS4) because (hoti) ones whom (hous) he knew before (proegnō) he predetermined (proōrisen) also (kai) [to be] [in, AE] forms together with (summorphous) the (tēs) icon (eikonos) of the (tou) son (huiou) of him (autou), into (eis) the (to) firstborn (prōtotokon) [son, RE] of him (auton) to be (einai) among (en) many (pollois) brothers (adelphous)!

(For the Word’s heavenly pre-existence as a spirit-based being see Prov. 8:22-31; Dan. 3:25-28; John 1:1-2, 14, 30, 3:13, 31, 6:33, 38, 41, 50-51, 58-62, 8:23-26, 58, 13:3, 16:27-30, 17:5-8, 24; Rom. 8:29; 1 Cor. 10:4, 9, 15:47; Gal. 4:1-5; Eph. 4:8-10, Phil. 2:6-7; Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:4-6, 3:2; 1 Pet. 1:20; 1 John 1:2; Rev. 3:14)

Rom. 8:30 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) ones whom (hous) he predetermined (proōrisen), these ones (toutous) he called aloud (ekalesen) also (kai);

and (kai) ones whom (hous) he called aloud (ekalsen), these ones (toutous) he made righteous (edikaiōsen) also (kai);

but (de) ones whom (hous) he made righteous (edikaiōsen), these ones (toutous) he glorified (edoxasen) also (kai)!

Rom. 8:31 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), what (ti) shall we state (eroumen) for (pros) these things (tauta):

If (ei) the (ho) God (theos) [is] over (huper) us (hēmōn), who (tis) [is] down (kath’) [under, AE] us (hēmōn)?

Rom. 8:32 (LIT/UBS4) Who (hos), indeed (ge), absolutely did not cause himself to be sparing (ouk epheisato) of the (tou) son (huiou) of his own (idiou), BUT (alla), he passed him aside (paredōken auton) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of all (pantōn) of us (hēmōn), how (pōs) shall he absolutely not cause himself to be gracious (ouchi charisetai) to us (hēmin) also (kai), of all the things (ta panta) together with (sun) him (autō)!?

(For examples of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and disciples of Christ Jesus NOT selling or bartering the knowledge and things of God for personal gain, or of NOT accepting money or personal gifts for themselves, but rather working with their own hands to provide for their own personal necessary needs, see Mat. 5:42-48, 10:8; Luke 7:19-22, 41-43; Acts 8:9-24, 18:1-3, 20:33-35; Rom. 3:24, 8:32; 1 Cor. 2:12, 4:12, 4:1-13, 9:3-23, 16:1-4; 2 Cor. 11:7, 12:13-19; Eph. 4:28; 1 Thes. 4:11-12; 2 Thes. 3:6-12; 1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:11; 3 John 1:6-7; Rev. 21:6, 22:17)

Rom. 8:33 (LIT/UBS4) Who (tis) shall accuse (enkalesei) [anything, AE] down against (kata) [the] called out ones (eklektōn) of God (theou)?

<Shall> God (theos), the one (ho) making [[the] called out ones, RE] righteous (dikaiōn)?

Rom. 8:34 (LIT/UBS4) Who (tis) [is] the one (ho) condemning (katakrinōn) [the called-out ones, v33, RE]?

[Is] Christ (Christos) Jesus (Iēsous) the one (ho), he having died away (apothanōn);

but (de) more (mallon), who (hos) having been awoken (egertheis) is (estin) in (en) [the] right (dexia) of the (tou) God (theou) also (kai), who (hos) intercedes (entunchanei) over (huper) us (hēmōn) also (kai)!?

Rom. 8:35 (LIT/UBS4) What (tis) shall separate (chōrisei) us (hēmas) from (apo) the (tēs) love (agapēs) of the (tou) Christ (Christou)

mental pressure (thlipsis), or (ē) confinement (stenochōria), or (ē) pursuit (diōgmos), or (ē) famine (limos), or (ē) nakedness (gumnotēs), or (ē) danger (kindunos), or (ē) [a] knife (machaira)?

Rom. 8:36 (LIT/UBS4) Down according to as (kathōs) it has been written (gegraptai), that (hoti), “On account (heneken) of you (sou) we are put to death (thanatoumetha) the (tēn) whole (holēn) day (hēmeran);

we are counted3049 (elogisthēmen) as (hōs) sheep (probata) of [a] slaughter (sphagēs).”

(See Psalm 44:22)

Rom. 8:37 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), in (en) all (pasin) these things (toutois) we conquer over (hupernikōmen) [the one condemning, v34, RE], through (dia) the one (tou) having loved (agapēsantos) us (hēmas)

(For the Spirit of God being in Christ, and the Spirit of Christ being in those who believe upon his name, making them more than conquerors now, see Mat. 10:25; Acts 1:4-8; Rom. 8:9-11, 37; 1 Cor. 12:6; 2 Cor. 2:14, 13:3-5; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 1:19-20, 4:13, 6:13-18; Phil. 2:13, 4:13; Col. 1:27-29; 1 Thes. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:7; 1 John 4:4, 5:4-5)

Rom. 8:38 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), I have been persuaded (pepeismai), that (hoti) absolutely not (oute) death (thanatos), and absolutely not (oute) life (zōē), and absolutely not (oute) messengers (angeloi), and absolutely not (oute) chief ones746 (archai), and absolutely not (oute) [these things, v37, RE] having presently stood (enestōta), and absolutely not (oute) [things, RE] being about (mellonta) [to be], and absolutely not (oute) inherently powered works (dunameis),

Rom. 8:39 (LIT/UBS4) and absolutely not (oute) [a] high body (hupsōma), and absolutely not (oute) [a] deep one (bathos), and absolutely not (oute) [a] creation (ktisis), any (tis) other kind (hetera), shall cause itself to be inherently powered (dunēsetai) to separate (chōrisai) us (hēmas) from (apo) the (tēs) love (agapēs) of the (tou) God (theou), the (tēs) [love, RE] in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou) the (tō) lord (kuriō) of us (hēmōn) !
