ROMANS

Chapter 7

Update:  2024.01.30

Rom. 7:1 (LIT/UBS4) Or (ē) are you ignorant (agnoeite), brothers (adelphoi), because (gar) I speak (lalō) to ones knowing (ginōskousin) law (nomon), that (hoti) the (ho) law (nomos) is being [a] lord (kurieuei) of the (tou) mortal (anthrōpou) over (eph’) as much (hoson) time (chronon) <as> he lives (zē)?

Rom. 7:2 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) female (gunē) [being] under [a] male (hupandros) has been bound (dedetai) to the (tō) living (zōnti) male (andri) by law (nomō).

But (de) if perhaps (ean) the (ho) male (anēr) may die away (apothanē), [the female, RE] of the (tou) male (andros) has been idled down2673 (katērgētai) from (apo) the (tou) law (nomou).

Rom. 7:3 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), so (ara) the (tou) male (andros) living (zōntos), [the female, v2, RE] shall be admonished (chrēmatisei) [to be] [an] adulterous one (moichalis) if perhaps (ean) she may cause herself to become (genētai) [the female, v2, RE] to another (heterō) male (andri)

But (de) if perhaps (ean) the (ho) male (anēr) may die away (apothanē), [the female, v2, RE] is (estin) one free (eleuthera) from (apo) the (tou) law (nomou).

She (autēn) [is] not (mē) to be (einai) [an] adulteress one (moichalida) of the (tou) [law, RE], having caused herself to become (genomenēn) [the female, v2, RE] to another (heterō) male (andri).

Rom. 7:4 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste), brothers (adelphoi) of me (mou), you (humeis) also (kai) were put to death (ethanatōthēte) for the (tō) law (nomō) through (dia) the (tou) body (sōmatos) of the (tou) Christ (Christou);

into (eis) the (to) [death, RE] of you (humas) to cause yourselves to become (genesthai) [the female, v2, RE] to another kind (heterō) [of male, v3, RE], to the (tō) [male, v3, RE] having been awoken (egerthenti) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn);

in order that2443 (hina) we may bring forth produce (karpophorēsōmen) to the (tō) God (theō).

Rom. 7:5 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) when (hote) we were being (ēmen) in (en) the (tē) flesh (sarki), the (ta) sufferings (pathēmata) of the (tōn) sins (hamartiōs), the (ta) [sufferings, RE] through (dia) [the energizing, RE] of the (tou) law (nomou), [the law, RE] was causing itself to be energized (enērgeito) in (en) to the (tois) members (melesin) of us (hēmōn), into (eis) the (to) [members of us, RE] to bring forth produce (karpophorēsai) to the (tō) death (thanatō) [of us, RE]!

Rom. 7:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now, at this moment (nuni), we are idled down2673 (katērgēthēmen) from (apo) the (tou) law (nomou), we having died away (apothanontes) [from the law, RE] in (en) to which (hō) we were being held down (kateichometha).

And so (hōste) we (hēmas) [are] to slave (douleuein) in (en) newness (kainotēti) of Spirit (pneumatos), and (kai) absolutely not (ou) [in, RE] oldness (palaiotēti) of [a] writing (grammatos) [of the law, RE]!

Rom. 7:7 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), what (ti) shall we state (eroumen)?

[Is] the (ho) law (nomos) sin (harmartia)?

Might it not cause itself to come to pass (mē genoito)

BUT (alla), I would have absolutely not known (ouk egnōn) the (tēn) sin (hamartian) if (ei) not (mē) through (dia) law (nomou)!

Because (gar) I would have absolutely not seen (ouk ēdein) the (tēn) lust (epithumian) also (te), if (ei) the (ho) law (nomos) was not saying (mē elegen), “Absolutely do not lust (ouk epithumēseis)!”

Rom. 7:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hē) sin (hamartia) having received (labousa) opportunity (aphormēn) through (dia) the (tēn) injunction (entolēs), it caused itself to work down (kateirgasato) [death, v5, RE] in (en) to me (emoi), of every (pasan) lust (epithumian).

Because (gar) apart from (chōris) law (nomou), sin (hamartia) [was] dead (nekra)!

Rom. 7:9 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) was living (ezōn) apart from (chōris) law (nomou) in time past (pote).

But (de) the (tēs) injunction (entolēs) having come (elthousēs), the (hē) sin (hamartia) was made up alive (anezēsen)!

Rom. 7:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) died away (apethanon)

And (kai) the (hē) injunction (entolē), the one (hē) into (eis) life (zōēn), this (hautē) [injunction, RE] was found (heurethē) to me (moi) [to be] into (eis) death (thanaton)!

Rom. 7:11 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (hē) sin (hamartia) having received (labousa) opportunity (aphormēn) through (dia) the (tēn) injunction (entolēs), it faked me out (exēpatēsen me), and (kai) through (di’) her (autēs) it killed (apekteinen) [me, RE]!

Rom. 7:12 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste) truly (men), the (ho) law (nomos) [is] [a] holy one (hagios), and (kai) the (hē) injunction (entolē) [is] [a] holy one (hagai), and (kai) [a] righteous one (dikaia), and (kai) [a] good one (agathē)!

Rom. 7:13 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), <did> the (to) good (agathon) [injunction, v12, RE] cause itself to become (egeneto) death (thanatos) to me (emoi)?

May it not cause itself to come to pass (mē genoito)

BUT (alla), the (hē) sin (hamartia) [caused itself to become death to me, RE], in order that (hina) it may be caused to shine (phanē) [as, AE] sin (hamartia);

[sin, RE] was causing itself to work down (katergazomenē) death (thanaton) to me (moi) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tou) good (agathou) [injunction, v12, RE];

in order that (hina) [a] sinful one (hamartōlos) may cause himself to become (genētai), down according to (kath’) hyperbole (huperbolēn), the (hē) sin (hamartia), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) injunction (entolēs)!

Rom. 7:14 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we have seen (oidamen) that (hoti) the (ho) law (nomos) is (estin) Spirit-based (pneumatikos).

But (de) I (egō) am (eimi) flesh-based (sarkinos), having been sold (pepramenos) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tēn) sin (hamartian).

Rom. 7:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) what (ho) I cause myself to work down (katergazomai) I absolutely do not know (ou ginōskō), because (gar) what (ho) I desire (thelō), this (touto) I absolutely do not habitually practice (ou prassō)!

BUT (all’), what (ho) I despise (misō), this (touto) I do (poiō)!

Rom. 7:16 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) I do (poiō) this (touto), what (ho) I absolutely do not desire (ou thelō), I shed light together with (sumphēmi) the (tō) law (nomō) that (hoti) [the law, RE] [is] beautiful (kalos)!

Rom. 7:17 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now, at this moment (nuni), I (egō) absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) cause myself to work it down (katergazomai auto), BUT (alla), the (hē) sin (hamartia) homesteading (oikousa) in (en) me (emoi) [works down, RE] [the law, v16, RE]!

Rom. 7:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I have seen (oida) that (hoti) good (agathon) absolutely does not homestead (ouk oikei) in (en) me (emoi), that (tout’) is (estin), in (en) the (tē) flesh (sarki) of me (mou)!

Because (gar) to desire (thelein) the (to) [sin, v17, RE] is caused to lie alongside (parakeitai) to me (moi)!

But (de) to cause myself to work down (katergazesthai) the (to) [law, v16, RE], the (to) beautiful (kalon) [law, v16, RE], it absolutely does not (ou) [homestead in me, RE]!

Rom. 7:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) that which (ho) I desire (thelō) to do (poiō), good (agathon), I absolutely do not (ou) [do, RE]!

BUT (alla), that which (ho) I absolutely do not desire (ou thelō) [to do, RE], evil (kakon), this (touto) I habitually practice (prassō)!

Rom. 7:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) that which (ho) I absolutely do not desire (ou thelō), this (touto) I (egō) do (poiō), I (egō) absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) cause myself to work it down (katergazomai auto), BUT (alla), the (hē) sin (hamartia) homesteading (oikousa) in (en) me (emoi) [works it down, RE]!

Rom. 7:21 (LIT/UBS4) So (ara) I find (heuriskō) of the (ton) law (nomon), the (tō) [law, RE] desiring (thelonti) for me (emoi) to do (poiein) the (to) [law, RE] beautifully (kalon), that (hoti) for me (emoi) the (to) malicious (kakon) [desire, RE] lies alongside (parakeitai) [of me, RE];

Rom. 7:22 (LIT/UBS4) because (gar) I cause myself to be hedonistic together with (sunēdomai) the (tō) law (nomō) of the (tou) God (theou), down according to (kata) the (ton) mortal (anthrōpon) inside (esō)!

Rom. 7:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I look at (blepō) another kind (heteron) of law (nomon) in (en) the (tois) members (melesin) of me (mou), causing itself to soldier in opposition (antistrateuomenon) to the (tō) law (nomō) of the (tou) mind (noos) of me (mou), and (kai) taking me captive at spear point (aichmalōtizonta me) in (en) to the (tō) law (nomō) of the (tēs) sin (hamartias), the (tō) [sin, ER] being (onti) in (en) the (tois) members (melesin) of me (mou).

Rom. 7:24 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) [am] [an] afflicted (talaipōros) mortal (anthrōpos)!

Who (tis) shall cause himself to rescue (rhusetai) me (me) out (ek) of the (tou) death (thanatou) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) of this (toutou)!?

Rom. 7:25 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) grace (charis) [be] to the (tō) God (theō), through (dia) Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou) the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn)!

So (ara) therefore (oun), I (egō) myself (autos), [being] true (men) to the (tō) mind (noi), I slave (douleuō) for [the] law (nomō) of God (theou);

but (de) [being] [true, RE] to the (tē) flesh (sarki), [I slave, RE] for [the] law (nomō) of sin (hamartias)!
