Rev. 2:1 (LIT/UBS4) “To the (tō) messenger (angelō) of the (tēs) assembly (ekklēsias) in (en) Ephesus (Ephesō) write (grapson) but these here things (tade),” says (legei) the one (ho) powerfully holding (kratōn) the (tous) seven (hepta) stars (asteras) in (en) the (tē) right (dexia) [hand, AE] of him (autou), the one (ho) walking around (peripatōn) in (en) [the] middle (mesō) of the (tōn) seven (hepta) lamp stands (luchniōn), the (tōn) golden ones (chrusōn):

Rev. 2:2 (LIT/UBS4) “I have seen (oida) the (ta) works (erga) of you (sou), and (kai) the (ton) labor (kopon), and (kai) the (tēn) endurance (hupomonēn) of you (sou), and (kai) that (hoti) you are absolutely not inherently powered (ou dunē) to carry (bastasai) [on with, AE] malicious ones (kakous)!

And (kai) you tested (epeirasas) the ones (tous) saying (legontas) themselves (heautous) [to be] apostles (apostolous), and (kai) they are (eisin) absolutely not (ouk), and (kai) you found (heures) them (autous) [to be] false ones (pseudeis)!?

Rev. 2:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) you hold (echeis) endurance (hupomonēn), and (kai) you carried (ebastasas) through (dia) the (to) name (onoma) of me (mou), and (kai) you have absolutely not been labored (ou kekopiakes)!

Rev. 2:4 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), I have (echō) down against (kata) you (sou) that (hoti) of the (tēn) love (agapēn) of you (sou), the (tēn) first one (prōtēn), you let go (aphēkes) [of her, AE]!

Rev. 2:5 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), remember (mnēmoneue) from where (pothen) you have fallen (peptōkas) and (kai) repent (metanoēson), and (kai) do (poiēson) the (ta) first (prōta) works (erga)

But (de) if (ei) [you do, RE] not (mē), I am caused to come (erchomai) to you (soi);

and (kai) I shall move (kinēsō) the (tēn) lamp stand (luchnian) out (ek) of the (tou) place (topou) of her (autēs), if perhaps (ean) you may not repent (mē metanoēsēs).

Rev. 2:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (alla), you have (echeis) this (touto), that (hoti) you despise (miseis) the (ta) works (erga) of the (tōn) Nicolaitans (Nikolaitōn), which (ha) I also (kagō) despise (misō)!

Rev. 2:7 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) having (echōn) [an] ear (ous), hear (akousatō) what (ti) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) says (legei) to the (tais) assemblies (ekklēsiais);

to the one (tō) conquering (nikōnti) I shall give (dōsō) to him (autō) to eat (phagein) out (ek) of the (tou) tree (xulou) of the (tēs) life (zōēs), which (ho) is (estin) in (en) the (tō) paradise (paradeisō) of the (tou) God (theou).

Rev. 2:8 (LIT/UBS4) “And (kai) to the (tō) messenger (angelō) of the (tēs) assembly (ekklēsias) in (en) Smyrna (Smurnē) write (grapson) but these here things (tade),” says (legei) the (to) first one (prōtos) and (kai) the (ho) last one (eschatos), one who (hos) caused himself to become (egeneto) [a] dead one (nekros) and (kai) lived (ezēsen):

(For an outline of Jesus Christ’s accomplishments in his earthly agency to his heavenly Father, see the note under Mat. 3:17.)

Rev. 2:9 (LIT/UBS4) “I have seen (oida) the (tēn) works (erga) and (kai) the (tēn) mental pressure (thlipsin) of you (sou), and (kai) the (tēn) poverty (ptōcheian).

BUT (alla), you are (ei) [a] wealthy one (plousios)!

And (kai) [I have seen, RE] the (tēn) blasphemy (blasphēmian) out (ek) of the ones (tōn) saying (legontōn) themselves (heautous) to be (einai) Judeans (Ioudaious), and (kai) they are (eisin) absolutely not (ouk)!

BUT (alla), [they are, RE] [a] synagogue (sunagōgē) of the (tou) Satan (Satana)!

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

Rev. 2:10 (LIT/UBS4) Be made fearful (phobou) of not one (mēden) of the (ha) [blasphemies, v9, RE] you are about (melleis) to suffer (paschein).

Behold (idou), the (ho) diabolical one (diabolos) is about (mellei) to throw (ballein) you (humōn) out (ex) into (eis) [a] guardroom (phulakēn), in order that (hina) you may be tested (peirasthēte)!

And (kai) you shall have (hexete) mental pressure (thlipsin) ten (deka) days (hēmerōn).

Cause yourself to become (ginou) [a] believable one (pistos) until (achri) death (thanatou), and (kai) I shall give (dōsō) to you (soi) the (ton) crown (stephanon) of life (zōēs)!

(See James 1:12)

Rev. 2:11 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) having (echōn) [an] ear (ous), hear (akousatō) what (ti) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) says (legei) to the (tais) assemblies (ekklēsiais).

[To, AE] the one (ho) conquering (nikōn), no (mē), absolutely not (ou) may unrighteousness be done (adikēthē) [to him, AE] out (ex) of the (tou) death (thanatou), the (tou) second (deuterou) [death, RE]!

3. To The Messenger Of The Assembly In Pergamos

(This assembly was not approved, vv. 2:14-15.)

Rev. 2:12 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) to the (tō) messenger (angelō) of the (tēs) assembly (ekklēsias) in (en) Pergamos (Pergamō) write (grapson) but these here things (tade),” says (legei) the one (ho) holding (echōn) the (tēn) Rhomphaia4501 (Rhomphaian), the (tēn) double-mouthed one (distomon), the (tēn) keen one (oxeian):

Rev. 2:13 (LIT/UBS4) “I have seen (oida) where (pou) you home-down (katoikeis), where (hopou) [is] the (ho) throne (thronos) of the (tou) Satan (Satana).

And (kai) you powerfully hold (krateis) the (to) name (onoma) of me (mou), and (kai) you absolutely did not cause yourself to deny (ouk ērnēsō) the (tēn) belief (pistin) of me (mou);

and (kai) in (en) the (tais) days (hēmerais) of Antipas (Antipas), the (ho) witness (martus) of me (mou), the (ho) believable one (pistos) of me (mou) who (hos) was killed (apektanthē) alongside (par’) you (humin), where (hopou) the (ho) Satan (Satanas) homes-down (katoikei)!

Rev. 2:14 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), I have (echō) down against (kata) you (sou) little things (oliga), because (hoti) you have (echeis) there (ekei) ones powerfully taking hold (kratountas) of the (tēn) orthodoxy (didachēn) of Balaam (Balaam);

one who (hos) was teaching (edidasken) the (tō) Balak (Balak) to throw (balein) [a] scandal (skandalon) in sight (enōpion) of the (tōn) sons (huiōn) of Israel (Israēl), to eat (phagein) idolatrous sacrifices (eidōlothuta), and (kai) to fornicate (porneusai)!

Rev. 2:15 (LIT/UBS4) Thusly (houtōs) you (su) have (echeis) also (kai), likewise (homoiōs), ones powerfully taking hold (kratountas) of the (tēn) orthodoxy (didachēn) of the (tōn) Nicolaitans (Nikolaitōn).

Rev. 2:16 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), repent (metanoēson)

But (de) if (ei) not (mē), I am caused to come (erchomai) to you (soi) quickly (tachu), and (kai) I shall make war (polemēsō) with (met’) them (autōn) in (en) the (tē) Rhomphaia4501 (Rhomphaia) of the (tou) mouth (stomatos) of me (mou).

Rev. 2:17 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) having (echōn) [an] ear (ous), hear (akousatō) what (ti) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) says (legei) to the (tais) assemblies (ekklēsiais).

To the one (tō) conquering (nikōnti) I shall give (dōsō) to him (autō) of the (tou) manna (manna), of the (tou) [manna, RE] having been hidden (kekrummenou).

And (kai) I shall give (dōsō) to him (autō) [a] white (leukēn) pebble (psēphon).

And (kai) upon (epi) the (tēn) pebble (psēphon) [is] [a] new (kainon) name (onama) having been written (gegrammenon), which (ho) absolutely not one (oudeis) has seen (oiden) if (ei) not (mē) the one (ho) receiving (lambanōn) [the pebble, RE]!

And (kai) the (ta) works (erga) of you (sou), the (ta) last ones (eschata), [are] more than (pleiona) the (tōn) first ones (prōtōn).

Rev. 2:20 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), I have (echō) down against (kata) you (sou) that (hoti) you let go (apheis) of the (tēn) female (gunaika), Jezebel (Iezabel), [to teach, AE], the one (hē) saying (legousa) herself (heautēn) [to be] [a] prophetess (prophētin)

Rev. 2:22 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), I (egō) throw (ballō) her (autēn) into (eis) [a] recliner (klinēn), and (kai) the ones (tous) adulterating (moicheuontas) with (met’) her (autēs) into (eis) great (megalēn) mental pressure (thlipsin), if perhaps (ean) they may not repent (mē metanoēsōsin) out (ek) of the (tōn) works (ergōn) of her (autēs)!

Rev. 2:23 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) I shall kill (apoktenō) the (ta) ones born (tekna) of her (autēs) in (en) death (thanatō).

And (kai) all (pasai) the (hai) assemblies (ekklēsiai) shall cause themselves to know (gnōsontai) that (hoti) I (egō) am (eimi) the one (ho) searching (eraunōn) [the] kidneys (nephrous) and (kai) hearts (kardias).

And (kai) I shall give (dōsō) to you (humin), to each (hekastō), down according to (kata) the (ta) works (erga) of you (humōn).

Rev. 2:24 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I say (legō) to you (humin), to the (tois) remaining ones (loipois), to the ones (tois) in (en) Thyatira (Thuateirois), as many as (hosoi) absolutely do not hold (ouk echousin) the (tēn) orthodoxy (didachēn) of this (tautēn), to ones who (hoitines) absolutely did not know (ouk egnōsan) the (ta) deep things (bathea) of the (tou) Satan (Satana), as (hōs) they say (legousin), I absolutely do not throw (ou ballō) upon (epi) you (humas) another (allo) weight (baros)!
