Chapter 5

James 5:1 (LIT/UBS4) Lead on (age) now (nun), the (hoi) wealthy ones (plousioi);

 

weep (klausate), howling (ololuzontes) over (epi) the (tais) afflictions (talaipōriais) of you (humōn), the ones (tais) you are causing to come over (eperchomenais) [you, AE].

 

James 5:2 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) wealth (ploutos) of you (humōn) has rotted (sesēpen).

 

And (kai) the (ta) outer garments (himatia) of you (humōn) it has become (gegonen) [sic] [a] moth-eaten one (sētobrōta).

 

James 5:3 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) gold (chrusos) of you (humōn), and (kai) the (ho) silver (arguros), it has been corroded down (katiōtai).

 

And (kai) the (ho) corrosion (ios) of them (autōn) shall cause itself to be (estai) into (eis) [a] witness (marturion) to you (humin).

 

And (kai) [the corrosion, RE] shall cause itself to eat (phagetai) the (tas) flesh (sarkas) of you (humōn), as (hōs) fire (pur) [shall cause itself to eat, RE] treasure gathered in (ethēsaurisate) in (en) [the] last (eschatais) days (hēmerais).

 

James 5:4 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), the (ho) wage (misthos) of the (tōn) workers (ergatōn), the (tōn) [wage, RE] having been clipped (amēsantōn) [from, RE] the (tas) regions (chōras) of you (humōn), the (ho) [wage, RE] having been defrauded (apesterēmenos) from (aph’) [the workers, RE] of you (humōn), it cries (krazei)!

 

And (kai) the (hai) shouts (boai) of the ones (tōn) having harvested (therisantōn) have entered in (eiselēluthasin) into (eis) the (ta) ears (ōta) of [the] Lord (kuriou) of hosts (sabaōth).

 

James 5:5 (LIT/UBS4) <You> [wealthy ones, v1, RE] lived in revelry (etruphēsate) upon (epi) the (tēs) land (gēs), and (kai) you lived in pleasure (espatalēsate).

 

You fed (ethrepsate) the (tas) hearts (kardias) of you (humōn) in (en) [a] day (hēmera) of slaughter (sphagēs).

 

James 5:6 (LIT/UBS4) You condemned (katedikasate), you killed (ephoneusate) the (ton) righteous one (dikaion).

 

He absolutely does not cause himself to be arranged in opposition (ouk antitassetai) to you (humin)!

 

James 5:7 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), be patient (makrothumēsate), brothers (adelphoi), until (heōs) the (tēs) presence (parousias) of the (tou) lord (kuriou)

 

Behold (idou), the (ho) land worker (geōrgos) of the (ton) highly valued (timion) produce (karpon);

 

he causes himself to receive [produce, RE] out (ekdechetai) of the (tēs) ground (gēs), he being patient (makrothumōn) over (ep’) it (autō) until (heōs) it may receive (labē) early (proimon) and (kai) latter (opsimon) [rains, AE]!

James 5:8 (LIT/UBS4) You (humeis) also (kai) be patient (makrothumēsate).

 

Stabilize (stērixate) the (tas) hearts (kardias) of you (humōn), because (hoti) the (hē) presence (parousia) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) has come near1448 (ēngiken)!

 

James 5:9 (LIT/UBS4) Do not groan (mē stenazete), brothers (adelphoi), down on account (kat’) of one another (allēlōn), in order that (hina) you may not be judged (mē krithēte)!

 

Behold (idou), the (ho) judge (kritēs) has stood (hestēken) before (pro) the (tōn) doors (thurōn)!

 

James 5:10 (LIT/UBS4) Take (labete) [an] example (hupodeigma), brothers (adelphoi), of the (tēs) malicious suffering (kakopatheias), and (kai) of the (tēs) patience (makrothumias) of the (tous) prophets (prophētas), the ones (hoi) [who, AE] spoke (elalēsan) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) [of the] Lord (kuriou).

 

James 5:11 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), happy (makarizomen) [are] the ones (tous) having endured (hupomeinantas)! 

 

You heard (ēkousate) of the (tēn) endurance (hupomonēn) of Job (iōb).

 

And (kai) you saw (eidete) the (to) thing completed (telos) [of the] Lord (kuriou);

 

because (hoti) the (ho) Lord (kurios) is (estin) [a] many-spleened one (polusplanchnos), and (kai) [a] compassionate one (oiktirmōn).

 

James 5:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) before (pro) all things (pantōn), brothers (adelphoi) of me (mou), do not swear (mē omnuete);

 

and not (mēte) of the (ton) heaven (ouranon), and not (mēte) of the (tēn) land (gēn), and not (mēte) of any (tina) other thing (allon)!

 

But (de) of [an] oath (horkon) of you (humōn), let [it, AE] be (ētō) to the (to) [Lord, v11, ER] “Yes! (nai), yes! (nai)”, and (kai) [let it be, ER] to the (to) [Lord, v11, ER] “Absolutely not! (ou), absolutely not! (ou)”, in order that (hina) you may not fall (mē pesēte) under (hupo) judgment (krisin)!

 

James 5:13 (LIT/UBS4) <Does> anyone (tis) among (en) you (humin) suffer maliciousness (kakopathei)?

 

Let him cause himself to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuchesthō) [the Lord, v11, ER].

 

[Is] anyone (tis) well-passioned (euthumei)?

 

Let him play [a] psalm (psalletō).

 

James 5:14 (LIT/UBS4) [Is] anyone (tis) disabled (asthenei) among (en) you (humin)?

 

Let him cause himself to call aloud to (proskalesasthō) the (tous) elders (presbuterous) of the (tēs) assembly (ekklēsias), and (kai) let them cause themselves to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuxasthōsan) [the Lord, v11, ER] over (ep’) [the sake, AE] of him (auton), oiling (aleipsantes) him (auton) to olive oil (elaiō) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of the (tou) lord (kuriou).

 

James 5:15 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (hē) vow (euchē) of the (tēs) belief (pisteōs) shall make whole (sōsei) the one (ton) being weary (kamnonta), and (kai) the (ho) Lord (kurios) shall arouse (egerie) him (auton).

 

And if perhaps (kan) there may be (ē) sins (hamartias), [[a] sin, AE] having been done (pepoiēkōs), it shall be let go (aphethēsetai) to him (autō).

 

James 5:16 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), cause yourselves to confess out (exomologeisthe) to one another (allēlois) the (tas) sins (hamartias).

 

And (kai) cause yourselves to make [a] vow (euchesthe) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of one another (allēlōn), it so being that (hopōs) you may be healed (iathēte)

 

A prayer of need (deēsis) of [a] righteous one (dikaiou) is much stronger (polu ischuei), it causing itself to be energized (energoumenē)!

James 5:17 (LIT/UBS4) Elijah (Hlias) was (ēn) [a] mortal (anthrōpos), one like (homoiopathēs) to us (hēmin).

 

And (kai) he caused himself to be well-thankful to4336 (prosēuxato) [the Lord, v15, ER], [a] prayer of well-thankfulness to4335 (proseuchē) [the Lord, v15, ER] of the (tou) [rain, RE] to not rain (mē brexai).

 

And (kai) it absolutely did not rain (ouk ebrexen) upon (epi) the (tēs) land (gēs) three (treis) years (eniautous) and (kai) six (hex) moons (mēnas)!

 

James 5:18 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he caused himself to be well-thankful to4336 (prosēuxato) [the Lord, v15, ER] again (palin), and (kai) the (ho) heaven (ouranos) gave (edōken) rain (hueton).

 

And (kai) the (hē) land (gē) sprouted (eblastēsen) the (ton) produce (karpon) of her (autēs).

James 5:19 (LIT/UBS4) Brothers (adelphoi) of me (mou), if perhaps (ean) someone (tis) among (en) you (humin) may wander (planēthē) from (apo) the (tēs) Truth (alētheias) and (kai) someone (tis) may turn (epistrepsē) him (auton),

 

James 5:20 (LIT/UBS4) let him come to know (ginōsketō) that (hoti) the one (ho) having turned back (epistrepsas) [a] sinner (hamartōlon) out (ek) of [the] wandering (planēs) of [the] way (hodou) of him (autou), [the Lord, v15, ER] shall keep whole (sōsei) [the] soul (psuchēn) of him (autou) out (ek) of death (thanatou).

 

And (kai) [the Lord, v15, ER] shall cover (kalupsei) [a] plethora (plēthos) of [the] sins (hamartiōn) [of him, RE].
