Chapter 2

 

2:1 And (kai) you (humas), being (ontas) dead ones (nekrous) for the (tois) side-falls3900 (paraptōmasin) and (kai) the (tais) sins (hamartiais) of you (humōn),

 

2:2 (in (en) which (hais) in time past (pote) you walked around (periepatēsate) down according to (kata) the (ton) age (aiōna) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) of this (toutou), down according to (kata) the (ton) chief one758 (archonta) of the (tēs) authority (exousias) of the (tou) air (aeros), the (tou) spirit (pneumatos) of the (tou) [authority of the air] now (nun) energizing (energountos) in (en) the (tois) sons (huiois) of the (tēs) dissuasion (apeitheias);

 

2:3 in (en) which things (hois) we (hēmeis) all (pantes) also (kai) in time past (pote), turned up390 (anestraphēmen) in (en) the (tais) lusts (epithumiais) of the (tēs) flesh (sarkos) of us (hēmōn), doing (poiountes) the (ta) desires (thelēmata) of the (tēs) flesh (sarkos), and (kai) of the (tōn) thoughts (dianoiōn)), we also were causing ourselves to be (kai ēmetha) by nature (phusei) ones born (tekna) of anger (orgēs), as (hōs) the (hoi) remaining ones (loipoi) also (kai)

 

2:4 But (de) the (ho) God (theos) being (ōn) a wealthy one (plousios) in (en) mercy (eleei), through (dia) the (tēn) much (pollēn) love (agapēn) of Him (autou) in which (hēn) He loved (ēgapēsen) us (hēmas),

2:5 we (hēmas) also (kai) being (ontas) dead ones (nekrous) [due] to the (tois) side-falls3900 (paraptōmasin), He made [us] alive together with (sunezōopoiēsen) the (tō) Christ (Christō)!  

 

[Due] to grace (chariti) you are (este) ones having been made whole (sesōsmenoi)!

 

2:6 And (kai) He aroused [us] together with (sunēgeiren) [the Christ], and (kai) He sat [us] down together with (sunekathisen) [Him] in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), in (en) the (tois) heavenly places (epouraniois);

 

2:7 in order that (hina) He may cause Himself to indicate (endeixētai) in (en) the (tois) ages (aiōsin), the ones (tois) causing themselves to come upon (eperchomenois) [us], the (to) overthrowing (huperballon) wealth (ploutos) of the (tēs) grace (charitos) of Him (autou) in (en) benevolence (chrēstotēti) over (eph) [the sake] of us (hēmas), in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou)!

 

2:8 Because (gar) [due] to the (tē) grace (chariti) you are (este) ones having been made whole (sesōsmenoi) through (dia) belief (pisteōs);

 

and (kai) this (touto) [wholeness is] absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of you (humōn), [it is] the (to) offering (dōron) of God (theou)!

 

2:9 [You having been made whole is] absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of works (ergōn), in order that (hina) not (mē) anyone (tis) may cause himself to boast (kauchēsētai)!

 

2:10 Because (gar) we are (esmen) a thing made (poiēma) of Him (autou), we having been created (ktisthentes) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou) over (epi) good (agathois) works (ergois).  

 

Which (hois) [works] the (ho) God (theos) made ready before (proētoimasen) in order that (hina) we should walk around (peripatēsōmen) in (en) them (autois) [now].

 

2:11 Through which (dio) remember (mnēmoneuete), that (hoti) in time past (pote) you (humeis), the (ta) ethnic groups (ethnē), the ones (hoi) being said (legomenoi) [to be] prepuced ones (akrobustia) in (en) flesh (sarki), under (hupo) [authority] of the ones (tēs) being said (legomenēs) [to be] of a hand-made (cheiropoiētou) circumcision (peritomēs) in (en) flesh (sarki),

 

2:12 that (hoti) at the (tō) time (kairō) of that (ekeinō) you were being (ēte) apart from (chōris) Christ (Christou), ones having been alienated from (apēllotriōmenoi) the (tēs) citizenship (politeias) of the (tou) Israel (Israēl);

 

and (kai) [you were] ones outside (xenoi) of the (tōn) covenants (diathēkōn) of the (tēs) promise (epangelias), holding (echontes) no (mē) hope (elpida), and (kai) without God (atheoi) in (en) the (tō) cosmos (kosmō).

 

2:13 But (de) now, at this moment (nuni), you (humeis), the ones (hoi) in time past (pote) being (ontes) far off (makran), you were caused to become (egenēthēte) near (engus) [to God] in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), in (en) the (tō) blood (haimati) of the (tou) Christ (Christou)!

 

2:14 Because (gar) he (autos) is (estin) the (hē) peace (eirēnē) of us (hēmōn), the one (ho) having made (poiēsas) the (ta) both (amphotera) one (hen);

 

and (kai) he having let loose (lusas) the (to) middle wall (mesotoichon) of the (tou) fence (phragmou) of the (tēn) hatred (echthran), in (en) the (tē) flesh (sarki) of him (auton);

2:15 he having idled-down2673 (katargēsas) the (ton) law (nomon) of the (tou) injunctions (entolōn) in (en) to dogmas (dogmasin), in order that (hina) he may create (ktisē) in (en) to himself (autō) the (tous) two (duo) into (eis) one (hena) new (kainon) mortal (anthrōpon), he making (poiōn) peace (eirēnēn),

 

2:16 and (kai) [in order that] he may reconcile from (apokatallaxē) [hate] both (amphoterous) the ones (tous) in (en) one (heni) body (sōmati), to the (tō) God (theō), through (dia) the (tou) stake (starou), having killed (apokteinas) the (tēn) hatred (echthran) in (en) it (autō).

 

2:17 And (kai) having come (elthōn), he caused himself to evangelize (euēngelisato) peace (eirēnēn) to you (humin), the ones (tois) far off (makran), and (kai) peace (eirēnēn) to the ones (tois) near (engus);

 

2:18 that (hoti) through (di’) him (autou) we have (echomen) the (tēn) approach (prosagōgēn) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera), both (amphoteroi) the ones (hoi) in (en) one (heni) Spirit (pneumati).

 

2:19 So (ara) therefore (oun), you are (este) absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) outsiders (xenoi) and (kai) side-housers (paroikoi), BUT (alla), you are (este) citizens together with (sumpolitai) the (tōn) holy ones (hagiōn), and (kai) [you are] householders (oikeioi) of the (tou) God (theou)!

 

2:20 [You are] domed-roof houses having been built over2026 (epoikodomēthentes), upon (epi) the (tē) foundation (themeliō) of the (tōn) apostles (apostolōn), and (kai) prophets (prophētōn), Christ (Christou) Jesus (Iēsou) being (ontos) [the] angle tip204 (akrogōniaiou) of Him (autou)

2:21 in (en) whom (hō) every (pasa) domed-roof house3619 (oikodomē) being called to join together (sunarmologoumenē) grows (auxei) into (eis) a holy place (naon), a holy one (hagion) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō)

2:22 in (en) whom (hō) you (humeis) also (kai) are being built together [into] a domed-roof house4925 (sunoikodomeisthe), into (eis) a homing-down place (katoikētērion) of the (tou) God (theou), in (en) Spirit (pneumati)
