2 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 1

Update:  20220906

2 Cor. 1:1 (LIT/UBS4) Paul (Paulos_a), [an] apostle (apostolos) of Christ (Christou) Jesus (Iēsou) through (dia) [the] desire (thelēmatos) of God (theou), and (kai) Timothy (Timotheos) the (ho) brother (adelphos), to the (tē) assembly (ekklēsia) of the (tou) God (theou), the one (tē) being (ousē) in (en) Corinth (Korinthō), together with (sun) all (pasin) the (tois) holy ones (hagiois) being (ousin) in (en) [the] whole (holē) [area, AE] to the (tē) Achaia (Achaia),

2 Cor. 1:2 (LIT/UBS4) grace (charis) [be] to you (humin), and (kai) peace (eirēnē) from (apo) God (theou) [the] Father (patros) of us (hēmōn), and (kai) [from, RE] [the] lord (kuriou), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou).

2 Cor. 1:3 (LIT/UBS4) Eulogized (eulogētos) [is] the (ho) God (theos) and (kai) Father (patēr) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou);

the (ho) Father (patēr) of the (tōn) compassions (oiktirmōn), and (kai) [the] God (theos) of all (pasēs) consolation (paraklēseōs);

2 Cor. 1:4 (LIT/UBS4) the (ho) [God, v3, RE] consoling (parakalōn) us (hēmas) over (epi) [the sake, AE] of all (pasē) of the (tē) mental pressure (phlipsei) of us (hēmōn);

into (eis) the (to) [consoling, RE] to inherently power (dunasthai) us (hēmas) to console (parakalein) the ones (tous) in (en) every (pasē) mental pressure (thlipsei);

through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) consolation (paraklēseōs) of which (hēs) we are consoled (parakaloumetha) of him (autoi), under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tou) God (theou).

(For God calling us and standing us together with him and his son Christ Jesus, see Mat. 25:33; 2 Cor. 1:3-4, 4:14; Eph. 2:13-14; Col. 1:13, 21-22; Jude 1:24)

2 Cor. 1:5 (LIT/UBS4) Because (hoti) down according to as (kathōs) the (ta) sufferings (pathēmata) of the (tou) Christ (Christou) abound (perisseuei) into (eis) us (hēmas), thusly (houtōs) through (dia) the (tou) Christ (Christou) abounds (perisseuei) the (hē) consolation (paraklēsis) of us (hēmōn) also (kai).

2 Cor. 1:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) whether (eite) we are pressured (thlibometha), [it, AE] [is] over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) consolation (paraklēseōs) and (kai) wholeness (sōtērias) of you (humōn);

whether (eite) we are consoled (parakaloumetha), [it is] over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) consolation (paraklēseōs) of you (humōn);

[over, RE] [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) causing of yourselves to be energized (energoumenēs) in (en) to endurance (hupomonē) of the (tōn) same (autōn) sufferings (pathēmatōn) of which (hōn) we (hēmeis) suffer (paschomen) also (kai)!

2 Cor. 1:7 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (hē) hope (elpis) of us (hēmōn) [is] [an] established one (bebaia) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of you (humōn);

we having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) as (hōs) you are (este) sharing partners (koinōnoi) of the (tōn) sufferings (pathēmatōn), thusly (houtōs) [you are sharing partners, RE] of the (tēs) consolation (paraklēseōs) also (kai)!

2 Cor. 1:8 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we absolutely do not desire (ou thelomen) you (humas) to be ignorant (agnoein), brothers (adelphoi), over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) mental pressure (thlipseōs) of us (hēmōn), of the (tēs) [mental pressure, RE] having caused itself to come to pass (genomenēs) in (en) the (tē) Asia (Asia);

that (hoti), down according to (kath) hyperbole (huperbolēn), we were burdened (ebarēthēmen) beyond (huper) inherent power (dunamin) [of us, AE];

and so (hōste) we (hēmas) were caused to be perplexed-out (exaporēthēnai), even (kai) of the (tou) [inherent power, RE] [of us, AE] to live (zēn)!

2 Cor. 1:9 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), we (autoi) have had (eschēkamen) in (en) ourselves (heautois) the (to) judicial decision (apokrima) of the (tou) death (thanatou), in order that (hina) we may (ōmen) not (mē) have been persuaded (pepoithotes) over (eph’) ourselves (heautois), BUT (all’), over (epi) the (tō) God (theō), the one (tō) awaking (egeironti) the (tous) dead ones (nekrous),

2 Cor. 1:10 (LIT/UBS4) who (hos) caused himself to rescue (errusato) us (hēmas) out (ek) of that-sized (tēlikoutou) of [a] death (thanatou).

And (kai) he shall cause himself to rescue (rhusetai) [us], into (eis) whom (hon) we have hoped (ēlpikamen);

2 Cor. 1:11 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) that (hoti) yet (eti) he shall cause himself to rescue (rhusetai) you (humōn) also (kai), you working subordinately together with (sunupourgountōn) [us, v10, RE] over (huper) the (tē) prayer of need (deēsei) of us (hēmōn);

in order that (hina) out (ek) of many (pollōn) faces (prosōpōn), through (dia) the (to) gracious gift (charisma) [of God, v9, RE] in (eis) us (hēmas), he may be given thanks well (eucharistēthē) over (huper) [the prayers of need, RE] of many (pollōn) of us (hēmōn)!

2 Cor. 1:12 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (hē) boasting (kauchēsis) of us (hēmōn) is (estin) this (hautē):

the (to) witness (marturion) of the (tēs) conscience (suneidēseōs) of us (hēmōn);

that (hoti) [it, AE] [is] in (en) singleness of purpose (haplotēti) and (kai) clear judgment (eilikrineia) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) absolutely not (ouk) in (en) flesh-based (sarkikē) wisdom (sophia)!

BUT (all’), in (en) [the] grace (chariti) of God (theou) we turned up390 (anestraphēmen) in (en) the (tō) cosmos (kosmō), but (de) abundantly (perissoterōs) for (pros) you (humas)!

2 Cor. 1:13 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) we absolutely do not write (ou graphomen) to you (humin) BUT (all’) [absolutely not, RE] things other (alla) than (ē) what (ha) you read up (anaginōskete), or (ē) [what, RE] you experientially know (epiginōskete) also (kai)!

But (de) I hope (elpizō) that (hoti) you shall cause yourselves to experientially know (epignōsesthe) [these things, RE] until (heōs) [the] end (telous),

2 Cor. 1:14 (LIT/UBS4) down according to as (kathōs) you also (kai) experientially knew (epegnōte) us (hēmas) from (apo) [a] part (merous) [of the witness of us, v12, RE]:

that (hoti) we are (esmen) [a] boast (kauchēma) of you (humōn);

so be it down (kathaper) you (humeis) also (kai), [your boast being [a] witness, v12, RE] of us (hēmōn), in (en) the (tē) day (hēmera) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou);

2 Cor. 1:15 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) this (tautē) [is] the (tē) daring (pepoithēsei) [of us, v14, RE]!

I was wishing to myself (eboulomēn) previously (proteron) to come (elthein) to (pros) you (humas), in order that (hina) you may have (schēte) [a] second (deuteran) [witness, v12, RE] of grace (charin);

2 Cor. 1:16 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) through (di’) [the sake, RE] of you (humōn) to come through (diethein) into (eis) Macedonia (Makedonian), and (kai) again (palin) to come (elthein) from (apo) Macedonia (Makedonias) to (pros) you (humas);

and (kai) under (huph') [authority, AE] of you (humōn) to be sent forward (propemphthēnai) into (eis) the (tēn) Judaea (Ioudaian).

2 Cor. 1:17 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun) wishing (boulomenos) this (touto), then (ara) what (ti)?

I did not cause myself to use (mē echrēsamēn) frivolity (elaphria)!

Or (ē) of things which (ha) I cause myself to plan (bouleumai), do I cause myself to plan (bouleumai) [them, AE] down according to (kata) [the] flesh (sarka), in order that (hina) there may be (ē) beside (par’) me (emoi) the one (to) [saying, AE] “Yes (nai), yes (nai)”, and (kai) the one (to) [saying, AE] “Absolutely not (ou), absolutely not (ou)!?”

2 Cor. 1:18 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) God (theos) [is] [a] believable one (pistos), because (hoti) the (ho) Word (logos) of us (hēmōn), the one (ho) to (pros) you (humas), is absolutely not (ouk estin) “Yes (nai)” and (kai) “No” (ou)!”

2 Cor. 1:19 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) Son (huios) of the (tou) God (theou), Jesus (Iēsous) Christ (Christos), the one (ho) among (en) you (humin) having been preached (kēruchtheis) through (di’) us (hēmōn), through (di’) me (emou) and (kai) Silvanus (Silouanou) and (kai) Timothy (Timotheou), absolutely did not cause himself to become (ouk egeneto) [one saying, AE] “Yea (nai)” and (kai) “Absolutely not (ou)”, BUT (alla), “Yes (nai)” became (gegonen) in (en) him (autō)!

(For the Word, who in the beginning was a heavenly messenger (Heb. 1:1-), who volunteered to become an earthly messenger for the God, Jesus Christ, to sacrifice himself to deliver all mortalkind from the penalty of its sin, see the note under Mat. 3:17)

2 Cor. 1:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) as many (hosai) promises (epangeliai) of God (theou) [as, AE] [are] in (en) him (autō), through whom (dio) [is] the (to) “Yes (nai)”, through (di) him (autou) also (kai) [is] the (to) “So be it (amēn)”, for (pros) glory (doxan) to the (tō) God (theō) through (di’) us (hēmōn)!

(For Jesus Christ desiring not to do his own will, but the will of his heavenly Father, see Mat. 26:42; Luke 22:42; John 4:34, 5:30, 6:38.)

2 Cor. 1:21 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the one (ho) establishing (bebaiōn) us (hēmas) together with (sun) you (humin) into (eis) Christ (Christon), and (kai) [the one, RE] having christened (chrisas) us (hēmas), [is] God (theos).

(For the God, under his new covenant, giving the assurance of his Spirit into the hearts of the “House of Israel”, see Jer. 31:31-34; Ezek. 11:16-20, 36:25-27; Joel 2:28-32; 2 Cor. 1:22)

2 Cor. 1:22 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) [God, v21, RE] [is] the one (ho) having sealed himself (sphragisamenos) to us (hēmas), and (kai) [the one, RE] having given (dous) [to us, RE] the (ton) assurance (arrabōna) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos) in (en) to the (tais) hearts (kardiais) of us (hēmōn).

2 Cor. 1:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) cause myself to call aloud upon (epikaloumai) the (ton) God (theon) [to be] [a] witness (martura) over (epi) [the sake, AE] of the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of me (emēn), that (hoti) being one caused to be sparing (pheidomenos) of you (humōn), I absolutely no longer yet came (ouketi ēlthon) into (eis) Corinth (Korinthon)!

2 Cor. 1:24 (LIT/UBS4) Absolutely not (ouch) that (hoti) we are lords (kurieuomen) of the (tēs) belief (pisteōs) of you (humōn), BUT (alla), we are (esmen) workers together with (sunergoi) [God, v23, RE] of the (tēs) joy (charas) of you (humōn), because (gar) you have stood (hestēkate) for the (tē) belief (pistei)!
