1 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 15

Update:  2024.03.28

1 Cor. 15:1 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I make known (gnōrizō) to you (humin), brothers (adelphoi), the (to) Evangelism (euangelion) which (ho) I caused myself to evangelize (euēngelisamēn) to you (humin), which (ho) you received alongside (parelabete) also (kai), in (en) to which (hō) you have stood (hestēkate) also (kai),

1 Cor. 15:2 (LIT/UBS4) through (di’) which (hou) you are kept whole (sōzesthe) also (kai), if (ei) you hold down (katechete) [the] Word (logō) which (tini) I caused myself to evangelize (euēngelisamēn) to you (humin), if (ei) not (mē) outside (ektos) [of which, AE] you believed (episteusate) weakly (eikē).

1 Cor. 15:3 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I passed along (paredōka) to you (humin), among (en) first (prōtois) [Words, v2, RE], that which (ho) I received alongside (parelabon) also (kai), that (hoti) Christ (Christos) died away (apethanen) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tōn) sins (hamartiōn) of us (hēmōn), down according to (kata) the (tas) writings (graphas).

1 Cor. 15:4 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) that (hoti) he was buried (etaphē), and (kai) that (hoti) he has been awoken (egēgertai) the (tē) third (tritē) day (hēmera), the (tē) [day, RE] down according to (kata) the (tas) writings (graphas).

(For Jesus standing up on the third day, see Psa. 16:10; Mat. 16:21, 17:23, 20:18-19, 27:62-63; Mark 8:31, 9:31, 10:32-34; *Luke 9:22, 18:31-34, 24:1-8, 44-46; John 20:9; Acts 10:40; 1 Cor. 15:4)

1 Cor. 15:5 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) that (hoti) he was gazed at (ōphthē) [by, AE] Cephas (Kēpha), thereafter (eita) [by, AE] the (tois) twelve (dōdeka).

1 Cor. 15:6 (LIT/UBS4) Thereupon (epeita) he was gazed at (ōphthē) [by, AE] up over (epanō) five hundreds (pentakosiois) once upon [a] time (ephapax), out (ex) of whom (hōn) the (hoi) most (pleiones) remain (menousin) until (heōs) this time (arti).

But (de) some (tines) were caused to rest (ekoimēthēsan).

1 Cor. 15:7 (LIT/UBS4) Thereupon (epeita) he was gazed at (ōphthē) [by, AE] James (Iakōbō), thereafter (eita) [by, AE] all (pasin) the (tois) apostles (apostolois).

1 Cor. 15:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) last (eschaton) of all (pantōn), as if (hōsperei) for the (tō) [apostle, v7, RE] born out of [an] abortion (ektrōmati), he was gazed at (ōphthē) [by, AE] me also (kamoi).

1 Cor. 15:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I (egō) am (eimi) the (ho) least one (elachistos) of the (tōn) apostles (apostolōn), one who (hos) is absolutely not (ouk eimi) [a] suitable one (hikanos) to be called aloud (kaleisthai) [an] apostle (apostolos), through reason that (dioti) I pursued (ediōxa) the (tēn) assembly (ekklēsian) of the (tou) God (theou)!

1 Cor. 15:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [by, AE] grace (charity) of God (theou) I am (eimi) what (ho) I am (eimi), and (kai) the (hē) grace (charis) of him (autou), the (hē) [grace of him, RE] into (eis) me (eme), was absolutely not caused to become (ou egenēthē) empty (kenē)!

BUT (alla), I labored (ekopiasa) abundantly (perissoteron) [over, AE] all (pantōn) of them (autōn)!

But (de) absolutely not (ouk) I (egō) [labored, RE], BUT (alla), the (hē) grace (charis) of the (tou) God (theou), the (hē) [grace of God, RE] together with (sun) me (emoi)!

1 Cor. 15:11 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), whether (eite) I (egō) [labor, v10, RE], whether (eite) those ones (ekeinoi) [labor, v10, RE], thusly (houtōs) we preach (kērussomen), and (kai) thusly (houtōs) you believed (episteusate)!

1 Cor. 15:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) Christ (Christos) be preached (kērussetai) that (hoti) he has been awoken (egēgertai) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn), how (pōs) <do> some (tines) among (en) you (humin) say (legousin) that (hoti) there is absolutely not (ouk estin) [a] standing up (anastasis) of dead ones (nekrōn)!?

1 Cor. 15:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) there is absolutely not (ouk estin) [a] standing up (anastasis) of dead ones (nekrōn), Christ (Christos) has but absolutely not been awoken (oude egēgertai)!

1 Cor. 15:14 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) Christ (Christos) has absolutely not been awoken (ouk egēgertai), then (ara) the (to) preaching (kērugma) of us (hēmōn) [is] empty (kenon) also (kai), and (kai) the (hē) belief (pistis) of you (humōn) [is] empty (kenē) [also, RE]!

1 Cor. 15:15 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) we are found (heuriskometha) [to be] false witnesses (pseudomartures) of the (tou) God (theou) also (kai), because (hoti) we witnessed (emarturēsamen) down against (kata) the (tou) God (theou) that (hoti) he awoke (ēgeiren) the (ton) Christ (Christon) whom (hon) he absolutely did not awake (ouk ēgeiren), if so be it (eiper) then (ara) dead ones (nekroi) are absolutely not awakened (ouk egeirontai)!

1 Cor. 15:16 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if (ei) dead ones (nekroi) are absolutely not awakened (ouk egeirontai), but absolutely neither has Christ been awoken (oude Christos egēgertai)!

1 Cor. 15:17 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) Christ (Christos) has absolutely not been awoken (ouk egēgertai), the (hē) belief (pistis) of you (humōn) [is] empty (mataia)!

You are (este) yet (eti) in (en) the (tais) sins (hamartiais) of you (humōn)!

1 Cor. 15:18 (LIT/UBS4) Then (ara) the ones (hoi) also (kai) having been caused to rest (koimēthentes) in (en) Christ (Christō) caused themselves to be lost (apōlonto)!?

1 Cor. 15:19 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) in (en) the (tē) life (zōē) to this (tautē) we are ones having only hoped (esmen ēlpikotes monon) in (en) Christ (Christō), [then, v18, RE] we are (esmen) reprovable ones (eleeinoteroi) of all (pantōn) mortals (anthrōpōn).

1 Cor. 15:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now at this moment (nuni) Christ (Christos) has been awoken (egēgertai) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn), [a] beginning offering (aparchē) of the ones (tōn) having been caused to rest (kekoimēmenōn)!

1 Cor. 15:21 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if since (epeidē) through (di’) [a] mortal (anthrōpou) [came, AE] death (thanatos), through (di’) [a] mortal (anthrōpou) also [comes, AE] [a] standing up (anastasis) of dead ones (nekrōn).

1 Cor. 15:22 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) as (hōsper) all (pantes) in (en) the (tō) Adam (adam) die away (apothnēskousin), thusly (houtōs) all (pantes) in (en) the (tō) Christ (Christō) also (kai) shall be made alive (zōopoiēthēsontai).

1 Cor. 15:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) each one (hekastos) in (en) the (tō) [Christ, v22, RE] [shall be made alive, v22, RE] [in, AE] his own (idiō) rank (tagmati), [each one, RE] [being] [a] beginning offering (aparchē) of Christ (Christos);

thereupon (epeita) the ones (hoi) of the (tou) Christ (Christou) [are] in (en) the (tē) presence (parousia) of him (autou).

(For mortals who have been made righteous through their belief in Jesus' name, as being beginning offerings to God from Jesus Christ, see Rom. 11:13-18, 16:5; *1 Cor. 15:20-23, 16:15-16; 2 Thes. 2:13-14; James 1:17-19; Rev. 14:4)

1 Cor. 15:24 (LIT/UBS4) Thereafter (eita) [is] the (to) completion (telos), when perhaps (hotan) [Christ, v22, RE] may pass along (paradidō) the (tēn) Kingdom932 (basileian) to the (tō) God (theō) and (kai) Father (patri);

when perhaps (hotan) [the God and Father, RE] may idle down2673 (katargēsē) every (pasan) chief one746 (archēn), and (kai) every (pasan) authority (exousian) and (kai) inherent power (dunamin).

(What is Jesus Christ doing with the Kingdom?  Isn't Jesus' Kingdom his one body of believers?  When Jesus passes along his Kingdom to his God and Father then does Jesus' one body of believers become the Kingdom of the God?  Then for both logical and practical purposes, isn't the one body of Christ, although still in its growth phase, the Kingdom of the God here upon earth now?)

1 Cor. 15:25 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) it is required (dei) of him (auton) to be king (basileuein) until (achri) of which (hou) [time, AE] [the God and Father, v24, ER] may put (thē) all (pantas) the (tous) hated things (echthrous) under (hupo) the (tous) feet (podas) of him (autou).

1 Cor. 15:26 (LIT/UBS4) [The] last (eschatos) hated thing (echthros) idled down2673 (katargeitai) [is] the (to) death (thanatos).

1 Cor. 15:27 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) [the God and Father, v24, ER] put in submission5293 (hupetaxen) all things (panta) [to be] under (hupo) the (tous) feet (podas) of him (autou)

But (de) when perhaps (hotan) it may be enunciated (eipē) that (hoti) all things (panta) have been put in submission5293 (hupotetaktai) [under the feet of him, RE], [it, AE] [is] obvious (dēlon) that (hoti) [the God and Father, v24, ER] [is] outside (ektos) of the (tou) [enunciation, RE], [the God and Father, v24, ER] having put in submission5293 (hupotaxantos) to him (autō) all the things (ta panta).

1 Cor. 15:28 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) when perhaps (hotan) [the God and Father, v24, ER] may have put in submission5293 (hupotagē) to him (autō) all the things (ta panta), then (tote) the (ho) son (huios) himself (autos) also (kai) shall be put in submission5293 (hupotagēsetai) to the (tō) [God and Father, v24, ER] having put in submission5293 (hupotaxanti) to him (autō) all the things (ta panta);

in order that2443 (hina) the (ho) God (theos) may be (ē) all the things (ta panta) in (en) all (pasin).

(For the God putting all things under Jesus' feet, and therefore under the feet of all those within Jesus' one body, , see 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 2:15; Heb. 2:6-9; Rom. 16:20.)

(For Christ Jesus' footstool, see Psalm 110:1; Mat. 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 20:43; Acts 2:35; *Rom. 16:20; 1 Cor. 15:25-28; Eph. 1:22; Heb. 1:13, 2:8, 10:13)

(For Christ Jesus’ kingdom, see Mat. 13:37-43; 1 Cor. 15:24-28; Eph. 1:19-23; Heb. 2:5-8)

1 Cor. 15:29 (LIT/UBS4) Otherwise (epei) what (ti) shall they do (poIēsousin), the ones (hoi) being baptized (baptizomenoi) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tōn) dead ones (nekrōn), if (ei) dead ones (nekroi) [are] absolutely not (ouk) awakened (egeirontai) wholly (holōs)!?

And (kai) why (ti) are they baptized (baptizontai) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of them (autōn)?

1 Cor. 15:30 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) why (ti) [are] we (hēmeis) endangered (kinduneuomen) every (pasan) hour (hōran)?

1 Cor. 15:31 (LIT/UBS4) Down (kath’) [each, AE] day (hēmeran) I die away (apothnēskō)!

Yes (nē), I am boasting (kauchēsin) of the (tēn) [awakening, v29, RE] of your own (humeteran), brothers (adelphoi), which (hēn) [awakening, v29, RE] I have (echō) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), the (tō) lord (kuriō) of us (hēmōn)!

1 Cor. 15:32 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) down on account (kata) of [a] mortal (anthrōpon) I was [a] fighter of wild animals (ethēriomachēsa) in (en) Ephesus (Ephesō), what (ti) to me (moi) [is] the (to) profit (ophelos) if (ei) dead ones (nekroi) are absolutely not awakened (ouk egeirontai)!?

May we eat (phagōmen) and (kai) may we drink (piōmen), because (gar) tomorrow (aurion) we die away (apothnēskomen)!?

1 Cor. 15:33 (LIT/UBS4) Do not be caused to wander (mē planasthe)!

Malicious (kakai) companionships (homiliai) corrupt (phtheirousin) benevolent (chrēsta) customs (ēthē).

1 Cor. 15:34 (LIT/UBS4) Righteously (dikaiōs) sober out (eknēpsate) and (kai) sin (hamartanete) not (mē), because (gar) some (tines) have (echousin) ignorance (agnōsian) of God (theou)

For (pros) [[an] ignorance] of entropy1791 (entropēn) I speak (lalō) to you (humin).

1 Cor. 15:35 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), someone (tis) shall state (erei), “How (pōs) [are] the (hoi) dead ones (nekroi) awakened (egeirontai)?”, “But (de) [in, AE] to what (poiō) body (sōmati) do they cause themselves to come (erchontai)?”

1 Cor. 15:36 (LIT/UBS4) Mindless one (aphrōn), what (ho) you (su) sow (speireis) is absolutely not made alive (ou zōopoieitai) if perhaps (ean) it may not die away (mē apothanē)!

1 Cor. 15:37 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) what (ho) you sow (speireis) [is] absolutely not (ou) the (to) body (sōma), the one (to) it shall be causing itself to become (genēsomenon)!

BUT (alla), if (ei) [you sow, RE] [a] naked (gumnon) kernal (kokkon) it may attain (tuchoi) [the body, RE] of grain (sitou), or (ē) [the body, RE] of something (tinos) of the (tōn) remaining ones (loipōn)!

1 Cor. 15:38 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) God (theos) gives (didōsin) to it (autō) [a] body (sōma) down according to as (kathōs) he desired (ēthelēsen);

and (kai) to each (hekastō) of the (tōn) seeds/sperms (spermatōn) its own (idion) body (sōma).

1 Cor. 15:39 (LIT/UBS4) All (pasa) flesh (sarx) [is] absolutely not (ou) the (hē) same (autē)!

BUT (alla), truly (men), [there, AE] [is] another (allē) flesh (sarx) of mortals (anthrōpōn), but (de) another (allē) flesh (sarx) of animals (ktēnōn), but (de) another (allē) flesh (sarx) of flyers (ptēnōn), but (de) another (allē) of fish (ichthuōn).

1 Cor. 15:40 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) [there, AE] [are] heavenly (epourania) bodies (sōmata), and (kai) bodies (sōmata) upon land (epigeia)!

BUT (alla), truly (men), the (hē) glory (doxa) of the (tōn) heavenly (epouraniōn) [bodies, RE] [is] one of another kind (hetera), but (de) the (hē) [glory, RE] of the (tōn) [bodies, RE] upon lands (epigeiōn) [is] one of another kind (hetera);

1 Cor. 15:41 (LIT/UBS4) [there, AE] [is] another (allē) glory (doxa) of [a] sun (hēliou), and (kai) another (allē) glory (doxa) of [a] bright moon (selēnēs), and (kai) another (allē) glory (doxa) of stars (asterōn);

because (gar) [a] star (astēr) bears through1308 (diapherei) in (en) glory (doxē) from [another, RE] star (asteros)!

1 Cor. 15:42 (LIT/UBS4) Thusly (houtōs) [is] the (hē) standing up (anastasis) of the (tōn) dead ones (nekrōn) also (kai):

[A body, v38, ER] is sown (speiretai) in (en) corruption (phthora), it is awakened (egeiretai) in (en) to incorruption (aphtharsia).

1 Cor. 15:43 (LIT/UBS4) [A body, v38, ER] is sown (speiretai) in (en) dishonor (atimia), it is awakened (egeiretai) in (en) to glory (doxē).

[A body, v38, ER] is sown (speiretai) in (en) disability (astheneia), it is awakened (egeiretai) in (en) inherent power (dunamei).

1 Cor. 15:44 (LIT/UBS4) [A body, v38, ER] is sown (speiretai) [a] soul-based (psuchikon) body (sōma), it is awakened (egeiretai) [a] Spirit-based (pneumatikon) body (sōma).

If (ei) there is (estin) [a] soul-based (psuchikon) body (sōma), there is (estin) [a] Spirit-based (pneumatikon) [body, RE] also (kai)

(See John 3:6; Rom. 8:9; 1 Cor. 15:44)

1 Cor. 15:45 (LIT/UBS4) Thusly (houtō) it has been written (gegraptai) also (kai), “The (ho) first (prōtos) mortal (anthrōpos), Adam (Adam), caused himself to become (egeneto) into (eis) [a] living (zōsan) soul (psuchēn);

the (ho) last (eschatos) Adam (Adam) [caused himself to become, RE] into (eis) Spirit (pneuma), making one alive (zōopoioun)!”

1 Cor. 15:46 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), absolutely not (ou) first (prōton) [is] the (to) Spirit-based (pneumatikon) [body, v44, RE], BUT (alla), the (to) soul-based (psuchikon) [body, v44, RE];

thereupon (epeita) [is] the (to) Spirit-based (pneumatikon) [body, v44, RE]!

(See 1 Cor. 2:14; 15:44, 46; James 3:15; Jude 1:19; John 3:6; Rom. 8:9)

1 Cor. 15:47 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) first (prōtos) mortal (anthrōpos) [is] out (ek) of [the] ground (gēs), one of dust (choikos);

the (ho) second (deuteros) mortal (anthrōpos) [is] out (ex) of heaven (ouranou).

(For the Word’s heavenly pre-existence as a spirit-based being see Prov. 8:22-31; Dan. 3:25-28; John 1:1-2, 14, 30, 3:13, 31, 6:33, 38, 41, 50-51, 58-62, 8:23-26, 58, 13:3, 16:27-30, 17:5-8, 24; Rom. 8:29; 1 Cor. 10:4, 9, 15:47; Gal. 4:1-5; Eph. 4:8-10, Phil. 2:6-7; Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:4-6, 3:2; 1 Pet. 1:20; 1 John 1:2; Rev. 3:14)

1 Cor. 15:48 (LIT/UBS4) Such as (hoios) the (ho) one of dust (choikos), like such (toioutoi) [are] the (hoi) ones of dust (choikoi) also (kai).

And (kai) such as (hoios) the (ho) heavenly one (epouranios), like such (toioutoi) [are] the (hoi) heavenly ones (epouranioi) also (kai).

1 Cor. 15:49 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) down according to as (kathōs) we wore (ephoresamen) the (tēn) icon (eikona) of the (tou) one of dust (choikou), we shall wear (phoresomen) the (tēn) icon (eikona) of the (tou) heavenly one (epouraniou) also (kai).

(For what the God planned before ages of times, and promised to the Word before it became flesh, that God would not allow his body, after it became flesh, to remain in the grave to decay into a thorough disintegration, see Psalm 16:8-11, 30:1-12, 69:1-36; Isa. 53; Acts 2:25-28, 13:32-37; Rom. 2:7-9, 16:25-27; 1 Cor. 15:42-49; Eph. 1:3-14, 6:24; 2 Tim. 1:8-12; 1 Pet. 1:17-23.)

1 Cor. 15:50 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I shed this light5346 (touto phēmi), brothers (adelphoi), that (hoti) flesh (sarx) and (kai) blood (haima) can absolutely not inherently power itself (ou dunatai) to inherit (klēronomēsai) [the] Kingdom932 (basileian) of God (theou);

But absolutely not (oude) [does] the (hē) corruption (phthora) inherit (klēronomei) the (tēn) incorruption (aphtharsian)!

1 Cor. 15:51 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), I speak (legō) [a] mystery (mustērion) to you (humin);

absolutely not (ou) all (pantes) shall be caused to rest (koimēthēsometha), but (de) all (pantes) shall be caused to change (allagēsometha),

1 Cor. 15:52 (LIT/UBS4) in (en) [a] moment (atomō), in (en) [a] fling (rhipē) of [an] eye (ophthalmou), in (en) the (tē) last (eschatē) trumpet (salpingi)!

Because (gar) [there, AE] [shall be] [a] trumpet (salpisei), and (kai) the (hoi) dead ones (nekroi) shall be awakened (egerthēsontai) [into, AE] incorruptible ones (aphthartoi), and (kai) we (hēmeis) shall be caused to change (allagēsometha).

1 Cor. 15:53 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) it is required (dei) of the (to) corruptible one (phtharton), this one (touto), to enrobe himself in (endusasthai) incorruption (aphtharsian);

and (kai) of the (to) death-doomed one (thnēton), this one (touto), to enrobe himself in (endusasthai) inability to die (athanasian).

1 Cor. 15:54 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) when perhaps (hotan) the (to) corruptible one (phtharton), this one (touto), may enrobe himself in (endusētai) incorruption (aphtharsian), and (kai) the (to) death-doomed one (thnēto), this one (touto), may enrobe himself in (endusētai) inability to die (athanasian), then (tote) the (ho) Word (logos), the one (ho) having been written (gegrammenos), shall cause itself to come to pass (genēsetai):

“The (ho) death (thanatos) was drank down2666 (katepothē) into (eis) victory (nikos)."

(See Isa. 25:8)

1 Cor. 15:55 (LIT/UBS4) "Of you (sou), death (thanate), where (pou) [is] the (to) victory (nikos)

Of you (sou), death (thanate), where (pou) [is] the (to) goad (kentron)?”

(See Hos. 13:14)

1 Cor. 15:56 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (to) goad (kentron) of the (tou) death (thanatou) [is] the (hē) sin (hamartia)

But (de) the (hē) inherent power (dunamis) of the (tēs) sin (hamartias) [is] the (ho) law (nomos).

1 Cor. 15:57 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) to the (tō) God (theō) [is] grace (charis), to the one (tō) giving (didonti) to us (hēmin) the (to) victory (nikos) through (dia) the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou)!

1 Cor. 15:58 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste) beloved ones (agapētoi), brothers (adelphoi) of me (mou), cause yourselves to become (ginesthe) settled ones (hedraioi), unmovable ones (ametakinētoi), always (pantote) abounding (perisseuontes) in (en) the (tō) work (ergō) of the (tou) lord (kuriou), you having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) the (ho) labor (kopos) of you (humōn) is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) empty (kenos) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō)!
