1 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 4

Update:  2022.02.03

1 Cor. 4:1 (LIT/UBS4) Thusly (houtōs) let [a] mortal (anthropos) be caused to count3049 (logizesthō) us (hēmas) as (hōs) under-oarsmen5257 (hupēretas) of Christ (Christou), and (kai) [as, RE] house stewards (oikonomous) of mysteries (mustēriōn) of God (theou).

1 Cor. 4:2 (LIT/UBS4) It is sought (zēteitai) among (en) the (tois) house stewards (oikonomois) remaining (loipon) here (hōde) that (hina) one (tis) may be found (heurethē) [to be] [a] believable one (pistos)!

1 Cor. 4:3 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) it is (estin) [a] least thing (elachiston) to (eis) me (emoi) that (hina) I may be adjudicated350 (anakrithō) under (huph’) [authority, AE] of you (humōn), or (ō) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of [a] day (hēmeras) of mortalkind (anthrōpinēs)

BUT (all’), I adjudicate350 (anakrinō) but absolutely not (oude) myself (emauton)!

1 Cor. 4:4 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I have known (sunoida) of absolutely not one thing (ouden) [I adjudicated, v3, RE] for myself (emautō)!

BUT (all’), have I absolutely not been made righteous (dedikaiōmai) in (en) this (toutō)!?

But (de) the one (ho) adjudicating350 (anakrinōn) me (me) is (estin) [the] lord (kurios)!

1 Cor. 4:5 (LIT/UBS4) And so (hōste), judge krinete) not (mē) anything (ti) before (pro) [the] time (kairou) [of it, AE], perhaps (an) until (heōs) the (ho) lord (kurios) may come (elthē);

one who (hos) shall illuminate (phōtisei) both (kai) the (ta) hidden things (krupta) of the (tou) darkness (skotous), and (kai) shall manifest (phanerōsei) the (tas) counsels (boulas) of the (tōn) hearts (kardiōn).

And (kai) then (tote) the (ho) praise (epainos) shall cause itself to come to pass (genēsetai) to each (hekastō) from (apo) the (tou) God (theou)!

1 Cor. 4:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) of these (tauta) [adjudications, v4, RE] brothers (adelphoi), I transformed (meteschēmatisa) [them, AE] into (eis) [being] of myself (emauton), and (kai) of Apollos (Appollōn), through (di’) [the sake, AE] of you (humas);

in order that (hina) you may learn (mathētē) the (to) [judgment, v5, RE] in (en) us (hēmas), not (mē) [to judge, v5, RE] above (huper) things which (ha) have been written (gegraptai);

in order that (hina) you are not caused to be puffed up (mē phusiousthe), one (heis) above (huper) the (tou) one (henos), [one, RE] down against (kata) the (tou) other (heterou).

1 Cor. 4:7 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) who (tis) thoroughly questions (diakrinei) you (se)?

But (de) what (ti) do you have (echeis) which (ho) you absolutely did not receive (ouk elabes)!?

But (de) if (ei) you received (elabes) [it, AE] also (kai), why (ti) do you cause yourself to boast (kauchasai) as (hōs) not (mē) having received (labōn) [it, AE]!?

1 Cor. 4:8 (LIT/UBS4) You are (este) already (ēdē) ones having been satiated (kekoresmenoi).

You were wealthy (eploutēsate) already (ēdē) without (chōris) us (hēmōn);

you were kings (ebasileusate)!

And (kai) I owe (ophelon) [to God, AE] even (ge) you were kings (ebasileusate), in order that (hina) we (hēmeis) also (kai) may be kings together with (sumbasileusōmen) you (humin)!

(For the one making kings, see Rom. 5:17; 1 Cor. 4:8; 1 Tim. 6:15; Rev. 1:6a, 5:10; 17:14; 22:5)

1 Cor. 4:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I conclude (dokō) the (ho) God (theos) appointed (apedeixen) us (hēmas), the (tous) apostles (apostolous), [to be] last (eschatous), as (hōs) ones [appointed, RE] over death (epithanatious);

because (hoti) we were caused to become (egenēthēmen) [a] theatrical performance (theatron) to the (tō) cosmos (kosmō), and (kai) to messengers (angelois), and (kai) to mortals (anthrōpois)!

1 Cor. 4:10 (LIT/UBS4) We (hēmeis) [are] moronic ones (mōroi) through (dia) Christ (Christon).

But (de) you (humeis) [are] thoughtful ones (phronimoi) in (en) Christ (Christō).

We (hēmeis) [are] disabled ones (astheneis).

But (de) you (humeis) [are] strong ones (ischuroi).

You (humeis) [are] ones in glory (endoxoi).

But (de) we (hēmeis) [are] dishonorable ones (atimoi).

1 Cor. 4:11 (LIT/UBS4) Until (achri) the (tēs) hour (hōras) at this time (arti) we pine (peinōmen) also (kai), and (kai) we thirst (dipsōmen);

and (kai) we are naked (gumniteuomen);

and (kai) we are struck with [a] fist2852 (kolaphizometha);

and (kai) we are unstable (astatoumen);

1 Cor. 4:12 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) we labor (kopiōmen), we causing ourselves to work (ergazomenoi) the (tais) hands (chersin) [being] our own (idiais).

We being ones verbally abused (loidoroumenoi), we eulogize (eulogoumen);

we being ones pursued (diōkomenoi), we cause ourselves to hold up (anechometha);

(For examples of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and disciples of Christ Jesus NOT selling or bartering the knowledge and things of God for personal gain, or of NOT accepting money or personal gifts for themselves, but rather working with their own hands to provide for their own personal necessary needs, see Mat. 5:42-48, 10:8; Luke 7:19-22, 41-43; Acts 8:9-24, 18:1-3, 20:33-35; Rom. 3:24, 8:32; 1 Cor. 2:12, 4:12, 4:1-13, 9:3-23, 16:1-4; 2 Cor. 11:7, 12:13-19; Eph. 4:28; 1 Thes. 4:11-12; 2 Thes. 3:6-12; 1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:11; 3 John 1:6-7; Rev. 21:6, 22:17)

1 Cor. 4:13 (LIT/UBS4) we being ones double-blasphemed (dusphēmoumenoi), we accost (parakaloumen) [you, AE].

As (hōs) scum (perikatharmata) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) we were caused to become (egenēthēmen) rubbish (peripsēma) of all (pantōn), until (heōs) this time (arti)!

1 Cor. 4:14 (LIT/UBS4) I am absolutely not one being in respect (ouk entrepōn) [of persons, AE] of you (humas)!

BUT (all’), I write (graphō) these things (tauta) as (hōs) making mindful (nouthetō) ones born (tekna) of me (mou), beloved ones (agapēta)!

1 Cor. 4:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if perhaps (ean) you may have (echēte) ten thousands (murious) of pedagogues (paidagōgous) in (en) Christ (Christō), BUT (all’), [you have, RE] absolutely not (ou) many (pollous) fathers (pateras)!

Because (gar) in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), through (dia) the (tou) Evangelism (euangeliou), I (egō) generated (egennēsa) you (humas)!

1 Cor. 4:16 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), I accost (parakalō) you (humas), cause yourselves to become (ginesthe) imitators (mimētai) of me (mou)!

1 Cor. 4:17 (LIT/UBS4) Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of this (touto) I sent (epempsa) to you (humin) Timothy (Timotheon), one who (hos) is (estin) one born (teknon) of me (mou), [a] beloved one (agapēton) and (kai) [a] believable one (piston) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō);

one who (hos) shall remind (anamnēsin) you (humas) of the (tas) ways (hodous) of me (mou), the (tas) [ways, RE] in (en) Christ (Christō) Jesus (Iēsou), down according to as (kathōs) I teach (didaskō) in (en) every (pasē) assembly (ekklēsia) everywhere (pantachou).

1 Cor. 4:18 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) some (tines) were puffed up (ephusiōthēsan), as (hōs) of me (mou) not (mē) causing myself to come (erchomenou) to (pros) you (humas).

1 Cor. 4:19 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I shall cause myself to come (eleusomai) to (pros) you (humas) quickly (tacheōs), if perhaps (ean) the (ho) lord (kurios) may desire (thelēsē).

And (kai) I shall absolutely not cause myself to know (ou gnōsomai) the (ton) word (logon) of the ones (tōn) having been puffed up (pephusiōmenōn), BUT (alla) the (tēn) inherently powered work (dunamin) [of them, AE]!

1 Cor. 4:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (hē) Kingdom932 (basileia) of the (tou) God (theou) [is] absolutely not (ou) in (en) word (logō), BUT (all), in (en) inherent power (dunamei)!

1 Cor. 4:21 (LIT/UBS4) What (ti) do you desire (thelete)

May I come (elthō) to (pros) you (humas) in (en) [a] rod (rhabdō), or (ē) in (en) love (agapē) and (te) [in, RE] [a] spirit (pneumati) of meekness (prautētos)?
