LUKE
Chapter 9
Update: 2024.10.19
Luke 9:1 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) having caused himself to call together (sunkalesamenos) the (tous) twelve (dōdeka), he gave (edōken) to them (autois) [an] inherently powered work (dunamin), and (kai) authority (exousian) over (epi) all (panta) the (ta) little demons (daimonia), and (kai) sicknesses (nosous).
Luke 9:2 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he sent (apesteilen) them (autous) to preach (kērussein) the (tēn) Kingdom932 (basileian) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) to cause them to heal (iasthai) the (tous) disabled ones (astheneis).
Luke 9:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he enunciated (eipen) to (pros) them (autous), “Carry (airete) not one (mēden) [thing, AE] into (eis) the (tēn) way (hodon);
and not (mēte) [a] rod (rhabdon), and not (mēte) [a] pouch (pēran), and not (mēte) bread (arton), and not (mēte) silver (argurion);
and [you, AE] [are] not (mēte) to have (echein) upwards (ana) of two (duo) shirts (chitōnas)!
Luke 9:4 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) into (eis) perhaps (an) whichever (hēn) house (oikian) you may enter into (eiselthēte), stay (menete) there (ekei), and (kai) cause yourselves to go out (exerchesthe) from there (ekeithen).
Luke 9:5 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) perhaps (an) as many as (hosoi) may not cause themselves to receive (mē dechōntai) you (humas), causing yourselves to go out (exerchomenoi) from (apo) the (tēs) city (poleōs) of that (ekeinēs), shake away (apotinassete) the (ton) dust (koniorton) from (apo) the (tōn) feet (podōn) of you (humō) into (eis) [a] witness (marturion) over (ep’) [the sake, AE] of them (autous).”
Luke 9:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) causing themselves to go out (exerchomenoi), they were going down through (diērchonto kata) the (tas) villages (kōmas) causing themselves to evangelize (euangelizomenoi), and (kai) giving therapy (therapeuontes) everywhere (pantachou).
Luke Luke 9:7 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) Herod (Hērōdēs) the (ho) tetrarch (tetraarchēs) heard (ēkousan) of all (panta) of the things (ta) being caused to come to pass (ginomena).
And (kai) he was being thoroughly perplexed (diēporei) through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the thing (to) to be said (legesthai) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of some (tinōn), that (hoti) John (Iōannēs) was awoken (ēgerthē) out (ek) of dead ones (nekrōn);
Luke 9:8 (LIT/UBS4) but (de) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of some (tinōn), that (hoti) Elijah (Hlias) was shown (ephanē);
but (de) of others (allōn), that (hoti) [a] certain (tis) prophet (prophētēs) of the (tōn) first (archaiōn) [prophets, RE] stood up (anestē).
Luke 9:9 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) Herod (Hērōdēs) enunciated (eipen), “John (Iōannēn) I (egō) beheaded (apekephalisa).
But (de) who (tis) is (estin) this (houtos) [prophet, v8, RE] of whom (hou) I hear (akouō) about (peri) things like these (toiauta)?”
And (kai) he was searching (ezētei) to see (idein) him (auton).
Luke 9:10 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (hoi) apostles (apostoloi) having returned (hupostrepsantes), they caused themselves to lead him through (diēgēsanto autō) as many things as (hosa) they did (epoiēsan).
And (kai) he having taken them along (paralabōn autous) he inconspicuously made space (hupechōrēsen) down (kat’) [on, AE] his own (idian) into (eis) [a] city (polin) being called aloud (kaloumenēn) Bethsaida (Bēthsaida).
Luke 9:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hoi) crowds (ochloi) having known (gnontes) [he conspicuously made space, v10, RE], they followed (ēkolouthēsan) him (autō).
And (kai) having caused himself to receive (apodexamenos) them (autous), he was speaking (elalei) to them (autois) about (peri) the (tēs) Kingdom932 (basileias) of the (tou) God (theou).
And (kai) he was causing himself to heal (iato) the (tous) [crowds, v10, RE] having (echontas) need (chreian) of therapy (therapeias).
Luke 9:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hē) day (hēmera) caused itself to start (ērxato) to recline (klinein).
But (de) the (hoi) twelve (dōdeka) having come to (proselthontes), they enunciated (eipan) to him (autō), “Send away (apoluson) the (ton) crowd (ochlon), in order that (hina) they having been caused to go (poreuthentes) circularly (kuklō) into (eis) the (tas) villages (kōmas) and (kai) fields (agrous) they may relax (katalusōsin), and (kai) they may find (heurōsin) grain (episitismon), because (hoti) we are (esmen) here (hōde) in (en) [a] desolate (erēmō) place (topō).”
Luke 9:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) he enunciated (eipen) to (pros) them (autous), “You yourselves (humeis) give (dote) to them (autois) to eat (phagein)!”
But (de) the (hoi) [twelve, v12, RE] enunciated (eipen), “There are (eisin) but absolutely not (ouk) more (pleion) than (ē) five (pente) loaves of bread (artoi) for us (hēmin), and (kai) two (duo) fish (ichthues)!?
If (ei) having been caused to go (mēti poreuthentes), we (hēmeis) may not yet go to market to buy (agorasōmen) [enough, AE] food (brōmata) [to give, v13, RE] to (eis) all (panta) of the (ton) people (laon) of this (touton) [crowd, v12, RE]!"
Luke 9:14 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) they were being (ēsan) as if (hōsei) five thousands (pentakischilioi) of males (andres).
But (de) he enunciated (eipen) to (pros) the (tous) disciples (mathētas) of him (autou), “Recline (kataklinate) recumbent groups (klisias) of them (autous), as if (hōsei) upwards (ana) of fifties (pentēkonta).”
Luke 9:15 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) they did (epoiēsan) thusly (houtōs), and (kai) they reclined (kateklinan) absolutely all (hapantas)!
Luke 9:16 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) he having taken (labōn) the (tous) five (pente) loaves of bread (artous) and (kai) the (tous) two (duo) fish (ichthuas), having looked up (anablepsas) into (eis) the (ton) heaven (outanon) he eulogized (eulogēsen) them (autous).
And (kai) he broke [them, AE] down (kateklasen), and (kai) he was giving (edidou) [them, AE] to the (tois) disciples (mathētais) to pass along (paratheinai) to the (tō) crowd (ochlō).
Luke 9:17 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) they ate (ephagon), and (kai) all (pantes) were fed (echortasthēsan).
And (kai) the (to) [food, v13, RE] having abounded (perisseusan) to them (autois) was removed (ērthē), twelve (dōdeka) baskets (kophinoi) of broken pieces (klasmatōn)!
Luke 9:18 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) in (en) the (tō) [hour, AE] of him (auton) to be (einai) causing himself to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuchomenon) [God, AE] down (kata) alone (monas), the (hoi) disciples (mathētai) were being together with (sunēsan) him (autō).
And (kai) he inquired (epērōtēsen) of them (autous), saying (legōn), “Whom (tina) <do> the (hoi) crowds (ochloi) say (legousin) me (me) to be (einai)?”
Luke 9:19 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hoi) [disciples, v18, RE] having been caused to make [a] decision (apokrithentes), they enunciated (eipan), "‘John (Iōannēn), the (ton) Baptist (baptistēn)’;
but (de) other (alloi) [crowds, v18, RE] [say, v18, RE], ‘Elijah (Hlian)’;
but (de) other (alloi) [crowds, v18, RE] [say, v18, RE] that (hoti), ‘Some (tis) prophet (prophētēs) of the (tōn) first (archaiōn) [prophets, RE] stood up (anestē).’"
Luke 9:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) he enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “But (de) whom (tina) <do> you (humeis) say (legete) me (me) to be (einai)?”
But (de) Peter (Petros) having been caused to make [a] decision (apokritheis), he enunciated (eipen), “The (ton) Christ (Christon) of the (tou) God (theou).”
Luke 9:21 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) [Christ, v20, RE] having epitomized (epitimēsas) them (autois), he gave [an] instruction (parēngeilen) to say (legein) this (touto) to not one (mēdeni),
Luke 9:22 (LIT/UBS4) having enunciated (eipōn), “It is required (dei) that (hoti) the (ton) Son (huion) of the (tou) Mortal (anthrōpou) [is] to suffer (pathein) many things (polla), and (kai) to receive disapproval (apodokimasthēnai) from (apo) the (tōn) elders (presbuterōn), and (kai) chief sacrificial priests (archiereōn), and (kai) writers (grammateōn), and (kai) to be killed (apoktanthēnai), and (kai) to be awakened (egerthēnai) the (tē) third (tritē) day (hēmera)!”

Luke 9:23 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) he was saying (elegen) to (pros) all (pantas) [disciples, v18, RE], "If (ei) anyone (tis) desires (thelei) to cause himself to come (erchesthai) behind (opisō) me (mou) let him deny himself (arnēsasthō) of himself (heauton), and (kai) lift (aratō) the (ton) stake (stauron) of him (autou) down (kath’) [each, AE] day (hēmeran), and (kai) follow (akoloutheitō) me (moi).
Luke 9:24 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) perhaps (an) whoever (hos) may desire (thelē) to keep whole (sōsai) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of him (autou) he shall lose (apolesei) her (autēn).
But (d’) perhaps (an) whoever (hos) may lose (apolesē) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of him (autou) on account (heneken) of me (mou), this (houtos) [disciple, v18, RE] shall make her whole (sōsei autēn).
Luke 9:25 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) what (ti) is [a] mortal profited (ōpheleitai anthrōpos), having gained (kerdēsas) the (ton) whole (holon) cosmos (kosmon) but (de) having lost (apolesas) himself (heauton), or (ē) having been forfeited (zēmiōtheis) [of himself, RE]?
Luke 9:26 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) perhaps (an) whoever (hos) may be caused to be ashamed (epaischunthē) of me (mou) and (kai) of the (tous) words (logous) of me (emous), the (ho) Son (huios) of the (tou) Mortal (anthrōpou) shall be caused to be ashamed (epaischunthēsetai) of this (touton) [disciple, v18, RE] when perhaps (hotan) he may come (elthē) in (en) the (tē) glory (doxē) of him (autou), and (kai) [in the glory, RE] of the (tou) Father (patros) [of him, RE], and (kai) [in the glory, RE] of the (tōn) holy (hagiōn) messengers (angelōn) [of him, RE].
Luke 9:27 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I say (legō) to you (humin), truly (alēthōs), there are (eisin) some (tines) of the (tōn) [disciples, v18, RE] having stood (hestēkotōn) here (autou), who (hoi) no (mē), may absolutely not cause themselves to taste (ou geusōntai) of death (thanatou) until (heōs) perhaps (an) they may see (idōsin) the (tēn) Kingdom932 (basileian) of the (tou) God (theou)!”
Luke 9:28 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) as if (hōsei) eight (oktō) days (hēmerai) with (meta) [the passing, AE] of the (tous) words (logous) of these (toutous), and (kai) he having taken along (paralabōn) Peter (Petron) and (kai) John (Iōannēn) and (kai) James (Iakōbon), he stepped up (anebē) into (eis) the (to) mountain (oros) to cause himself to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuxasthai) [God, AE].
Luke 9:29 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) in (en) the (tō) [time, AE] of him (auton) to cause himself to be well-thankful to4336 (proseuchesthai) [God, AE], the (to) sight (eidos) of the (tou) face (prosōpou) of him (autou) [was] [[a] sight, RE] of another kind (heteron), and (kai) the (ho) garment (himatismos) of him (autou) [was] flashing out (exastraptōn) white (leukos).
Luke 9:30 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), and (kai) two (duo) males (andres) were speaking together with (sunelaloun) him (autō), who (hoitines) were being (ēsan) Moses (Mōusēs) and (kai) Elijah (Hlias);
Luke 9:31 (LIT/UBS4) [males, v30, RE] who (hoi), having been gazed at (ophthentes) in (en) glory (doxē), were speaking (elegon) of the (tēn) exodus (exodon) of him (autou) which (hēn) he was being about (ēmellen) to fulfill (plēroun) in (en) Jerusalem (Hierousalēm)!
Luke 9:32 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Peter (petros) and (kai) the (hoi) [disciples, v18, ER] together with (sun) him (autō) were being (ēsan) [disciples, v18, ER] having been burdened (bebarēmenoi) for sleep (hupnō).
But (de) they having been thoroughly aroused (diagrēgorēsantes), they saw (eidon) the (tēn) glory (doxan) of him (autou) and (kai) of the (tous) two (duo) males (andras), the (tous) [males, v30, RE] having stood together with (sunestōtas) him (autō).
Luke 9:33 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) in (en) the (tō) [time, AE] of them (autous) to make space through (diachōrizesthai) [there, AE] away from (ap’) him (autou), the (ho) Peter (Petros) enunciated (eipen) to (pros) the (ton) Jesus (Iēsoun), “Master (epistata), it is (estin) beautiful (kalon) for us (hēmas) to be (einai) here (hōde)!
May we make (poiēsōmen) three (treis) tents (skēnas) also (kai), one (mian) for you (soi), and (kai) one (mian) for Moses (Mōusei), and (kai) one (mian) for Elijah (Hlia),” he not having seen (mē eidōs) what (ho) he says (legei).
Luke 9:34 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) of him (autou) saying (legontos) these things (tauta), [a] cloud (nephelē) caused itself to become (egeneto) [there, AE], and (kai) it was overshadowing (epeskiazen) them (autous).
But (de) they were caused to be in fear (ephobēthēsan) in (en) the (tō) [overshadowing, RE], of them (autous) to enter in (eiselthein) into (eis) the (tēn) cloud (nephelēn).
Luke 9:35 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) [a] voice (phōnē) caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) out (ek) of the (tēs) cloud (nephelēs), saying (legousa), “This one (houtos) is (estin) the (ho) son (huios) of me (mou), the (ho) [son, RE] having been called out (eklelegmenos).
Hear (akouete) of him (autou).”
Luke 9:36 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) in (en) the (tō) [time, AE] of the (tēn) voice (phōnēn) to cause itself to pass (genesthai), Jesus (Iēsous) was found (heurethē) alone (monos).
And (kai) they (autoi) kept hushed (esigēsan).
And (kao) in (en) the (tais) days (hēmerais) to those (ekeinais) they reported (apēngeilan) to absolutely not one (oudeni) absolutely not one (ouden) [word, AE] of what things (hōn) they had seen (heōrakan)!
Luke 9:37 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) for the (tē) adjoining (hexēs) day (hēmera), of them (autōn) having come down (katelthontōn) from (apo) the (tou) mountain (orous), [a] large (polus) crowd (ochlos) met together with (sunēntēsen) him (autō).
Luke 9:38 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) behold (idou), [a] male (anēr) from (apo) the (tou) crowd (ochlou) shouted (eboēsen), saying (legōn), “Teacher (didaskale), I cause myself to beg (deomai) of you (sou) to look over (epiblepsai) upon (epi) the (ton) son (huion) of me (mou), because (hoti) he is (estin) [an] only genus3439 (monogenēs) to me (moi)!
Luke 9:39 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) behold (idou), [a] spirit (pneuma) takes (lambanei) him (auton) and (kai) he suddenly (exaiphnēs) cries (krazei);
and (kai) it convulses (sparassei) him (auton), with (meta) foam (aphrou);
and (kai) it hardly (mogis) departs away (apochōrei) from (ap’) him (autou)!
It is shattering (suntribon) him (auton)!
Luke 9:40 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) I was caused to beg (edeēthēn) of the (tōn) disciples (mathētōn) of you (sou), in order that (hina) they may throw it out (ekbalōsin auto)!
And (kai) they were absolutely not inherently powered (ouk ēdunēsan)!
Luke 9:41 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) having been caused to make [a] decision (apokritheis), he enunciated (eipen), “Oh (ō) unbelieving (apistos) and (kai) thoroughly twisted (diestrammenē) generation (genea), until (heōs) when (pote) shall I cause myself to be (esomai) toward (pros) you (humas), and (kai) cause myself to hold you up (anexomai humōn)!?
Lead (prosagage) the (ton) son (huion) of you (sou) here (hōde).”
Luke 9:42 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) of him (autou) yet (eti) being caused to come to (proserchomenou) [the Jesus, v41, RE], the (to) little demon (daimonion) broke (errēxen) him (auton), and (kai) convulsed (sunesparaxen) [him, RE].
And (kai) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) epitomized (epetimēsen) the (tō) spirit (pneumati), the (tō) unclean (akathartō) [spirit, RE], and (kai) he caused himself to heal (iasato) the (ton) child (paida).
And (kai) he gave (apedōken) him (auton) to the (tō) father (patri) of him (autou).
Luke 9:43 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) all (pantes) were being knocked out1605 (exeplēssonto) over (epi) the (tē) greatness (megaleiotēti) of the (tou) God (theou)!
But (de) of all (pantōn) being amazed (thaumazontōn) over (epi) all things (pasin) which (hois) he was doing (epoiei), he enunciated (eipen) to (pros) the (tous) disciples (mathētas) of him (autou),
Luke 9:44 (LIT/UBS4) “You (humeis) cause yourselves to put (thesthe) the (tous) Words (logous) of these (toutous) into (eis) the (ta) ears (ōta) of you (humōn), because (gar) the (ho) Son (huios) of the (tou) Mortal (anthrōpou) is about (mellei) to be passed aside (paradidosthai) into (eis) hands (cheiras) of mortals (anthrōpōn).”
Luke 9:45 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hoi) [disciples, v43, RE] were being ignorant (ēgnooun) of the (to) Word (rhema) of this (touto), and (kai) it was being (ēn) covered aside (parakekalummenon) from (ap’) them (autōn), in order that (hina) they may not cause themselves to comprehend (mē aisthōntai) it (auto).
And (kai) they were being made fearful (ephobounto) to inquire (erōtēsai) of him (auton) about (peri) the (tou) statement (rhēmatos) of this (toutou).
Luke 9:46 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [a] dialogue (dialogismos) entered in (eisēlthen) among (en) them (autois), the (to) [dialogue, RE] of perhaps (an) who (tis) may possibly be (eiē) [a] greater (meizōn) [disciple, v43, RE] of them (autōn).
Luke 9:47 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) having seen (eidōs) the (ton) dialogue (dialogismon) of the (tēs) heart (kardias) of them (autōn), he having caused himself to take hold (epilabomenos) of [a] young child (paidion), he stood (estēsen) it (auto) alongside (par’) to himself (heautō)
Luke 9:48 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “If perhaps (ean) whoever (hos) may cause himself to receive (dexētai) this one (touto), the (to) young child (paidion), over (epi) [the sake, AE] of the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), he causes himself to receive (dechetai) me (eme).
And (kai) perhaps (an) whoever (hos) may cause himself to receive (dexētai) me (eme) causes himself to receive (dechetai) the (ton) [God, v43, RE] having sent (aposteilanta) me (me).
Because (gar) the (ho) small (mikroteros) [disciple, v43, RE] among (en) [you, AE] being one under control (huparchōn) to you (humin) all (pasin), this (houtous) [disciple, v43, RE] is (estin) [a] great (megas) [disciple, v43, RE]!”
Luke 9:49 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) John (Iōannēs) having been caused to make [a] decision (apokritheis), he enunciated (eipen), “Master (epistata), we saw (eidomen) someone (tina) throwing out (ekballonta) little demons (daimonia) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of you (sou) and (kai) we were cutting him off (ekōluomen auton), because (hoti) he absolutely does not follow (ouk akolouthei) together with (meth’) us (hēmōn)!”
Luke 9:50 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to (pros) him (auton), “Do not cut [him, AE] off (mē kōluete)!
Because (gar) whoever (hos) is absolutely not (ouk estin) down against (kath’) you (humōn), he is (estin) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of you (humōn)!”
Luke 9:51 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) it caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) in (en) the (tō) [time, RE] to be fulfilled (sumplērousthai), of the (tas) day (hēmeras) of the (tēs) introduction (analēmpseōs) of him (autou), of the (tou) [day of him, RE] to make himself go (poreuesthai) into (eis) Jerusalem (Hierousalēm),
he (autos) established (estērisen) the (to) face (prosōpon) [of him, RE] also (kai).
Luke 9:52 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he sent (apesteilen) messengers (angelous) before (pro) [the] face (prosōpou) of him (autou).
And (kai) they having been caused to go (poreuthentes), they entered in (eisēlthon) into (eis) [a] village (kōmēn) of Samaritans (Samaritōn), as (hōs) to make ready (hetoimasai) for him (autō).
Luke 9:53 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) they absolutely did not cause themselves to receive (ouk edexanto) him (auton), because (hoti) the (to) face (prosōpon) of him (autou) was being (ēn) one causing itself to go (poreuomenon) into (eis) Jerusalem (Hierousalēm)!
Luke 9:54 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (hoi) disciples (mathētai), James (Iakōbos) and (kai) John (Iōannēs), having seen (idontes) [it, AE], they enunciated (eipan), “Lord (kurie), do you desire (theleis) [that, AE] we may enunciate (eipōmen) for fire (pur) to come down (katabēnai) from (apo) the (tou) heaven (ouranou), and (kai) to consume them up (analōsai autous)?”
Luke 9:55 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) having been caused to turn (strapheis), he epitomized (epetimēsen) them (autois).
Luke 9:56 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) they were caused to go (eporeuthēsan) into (eis) [a] village (kōmēn) of another kind (heteran).
Luke 9:57 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) of them (autōn) causing themselves to go (poreuomenōn) in (en) to the (tē) way (hodō), [a] certain (tis) [disciple, v54, RE] enunciated (eipen) to (pros) him (auton), “I shall follow (akolouthēsō) you (soi) if perhaps (ean) wherever (hopou) you may cause yourself to go (aperchē).”
Luke 9:58 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to him (autō), “The (hai) foxes (alōpekes) have (echousin) holes (phōleous), and (kai) the (ta) flying animals (peteina) of the (tou) heaven (ouranou) [have, RE] canopies (kataskēnōseis).
