Chapter 16

John 16:1 (LIT/UBS4) These things (tauta) I have spoken (lelalēka) to you (humin) in order that (hina) you may not be scandalized (mē skandalisthēte).

 

John 16:2 (LIT/UBS4) They shall make (poIēsousin) you (humas) be put away from synagogues (aposunagōgous)

 

BUT (all’), [an] hour (hōra) causes itself to come (erchetai) that (hina) everyone (pas), the one (ho) having killed (apokteinas) you (humas), may conclude (doxē) to bring to (prospherein) the (tō) God (theō) [a] service (latreian)!

 

John 16:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) they shall do (poIēsousin) these things (tauta) because (hoti) they absolutely did not know (ouk egnōsan) the (ton) Father (patera), but absolutely nor (oude) [did they know, RE] me (eme)!

 

John 16:4 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), I have spoken (lelalēka) to you (humin) these things (tauta) in order that (hina) perhaps when (hotan) the (hē) hour (hōra) of them (autōn) may come (elthē) you may remember (mnēmoneuēte) that (hoti) I enunciated (eipon) them (autōn) to you (humin)!  

 

But (de) these things (tauta) I absolutely did not enunciate (ouk eipon) to you (humin) out (ex) of [the] beginning (archēs), because (hoti) I was causing myself to be (ēmēn) with (meth’) you (humōn)!

 

John 16:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now (nun) I get underway (hupagō) to (pros) the one (ton) having sent (pempsanta) me (me);

 

and (kai) absolutely not one (oudeis) out (ex) of you (humōn) inquires (erōta) of me (me), “Of where (pou) do you get underway (hupageis)!?”

 

John 16:6 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), because (hoti) I have spoken (lelalēka) these things (tauta) to you (humin), the (hē) grief (lupē) [of you, RE] has filled (peplērōken) the (tēn) heart (kardian) of you (humōn)!

 

John 16:7 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (all’), I (egō) speak (legō) the (tēn) Truth (alētheian) to you (humin)!

 

It is mutually beneficial (sumpherei) to you (humin) that (hina) I (egō) may go away (apelthō).  

 

Because (gar) if perhaps (ean) I may not go away (mē apelthō) the (ho) Paraclete (Paraklētos) shall absolutely not cause itself to come (ouk eleusetai) to (pros) you (humas)!  

 

But (de) if perhaps (ean) I may be caused to go (poreuthō), I shall send (pempsō) it (auton) to (pros) you (humas).

 

John 16:8 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) having come (elthōn), that one (ekeinos) shall reprove (elenxei) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon) about (peri) sin (hamartias), and (kai) about (peri) righteousness (dikaiosunēs), and (kai) about (peri) judgment (kriseōs):

 

John 16:9 (LIT/UBS4) [That one shall reprove the cosmos, v8, ER] about (peri) sin (hamartias) because (hoti) truly (men) they [sic] absolutely do not believe (pisteuousin) into (eis) me (eme)!

 

John 16:10 But (de) [that one shall reprove the cosmos, v8, ER] about (peri) righteousness (dikaiosunēs) because (hoti) I get underway (hupagō) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera), and (kai) you can absolutely no longer yet observe (ouketi theōreite) me (me)!

 

John 16:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [that one shall reprove the cosmos, v8, ER] about (peri) judgment (kriseōs) because (hoti) the (ho) chief one758 (archōn) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) of this (toutou) has been judged (kekritai).

 

John 16:12 (LIT/UBS4) I have (echō) yet (eti) many things (polla) to say (legein) to you (humin), BUT (all’), you can absolutely not inherently power yourselves (ou dunasthe) to carry (bastazein) [them, AE] at this time (arti)!

 

John 16:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) when perhaps (hotan) that one (ekeinos) may come (elthē), the (to) Spirit (pneuma) of the (tēs) Truth (alētheias), it shall lead (hodēgēsei) you (humas) in (en) to the (tēn) Truth (alētheian), every (pasē) [Truth, RE].  

 

Because (gar) it shall absolutely not speak (ou lalēsei) from (aph’) of itself (heautou), BUT (all'), as much [Truth, RE] as (hosa) it shall hear (akousei) it shall speak (lalēsei)!

 

And (kai) it shall report up (anaggelei) to you (humin) the things (ta) being caused to come (erchomena).

 

John 16:14 (LIT/UBS4) That one (ekeinos) shall glorify (doxasei) me (eme), because (hoti) [that one, RE] shall cause itself to receive (lēmpsetai) out (ek) of the (tou) [Truth, v13, RE] of me (emou), and (kai) it shall report up (anangelei) to you (humin) [the things being caused to come, v13, RE].

John 16:15 (LIT/UBS4) All things (panta), as many as (hosa) the (ho) Father (patēr) has (echei), it is (estin) [sic] mine (ema).  

 

Through (dia) this (touto) I enunciated (eipon) that (hoti) [the Spirit of the Truth, v13, RE] receives (lambanei) out (ek) of the (tou) [Truth, v13, RE] of me (emou) and (kai) [the Spirit of the Truth, v13, RE] shall report up (anangelei) [Truth, v13, RE] to you (humin).

 

John 16:16 (LIT/UBS4) [A] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you can absolutely no longer yet observe (ouketi theōreite) me (me)

 

And (kai) again (palin) [a] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you shall cause yourselves to gaze at (opsesthe) me (me)."

 

John 16:17 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), [some, AE] out (ek) of the (tōn) disciples (mathētōn) of him (autou) enunciated (eipan) to (pros) one another (allēlous), “What (ti) is (estin) this (touto) which (ho) he says (legei) to us (hēmin), ‘[A] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you can absolutely not observe (ou theōreite) me (me)!'?

 

And (kai) again (palin), '[A] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you shall cause yourselves to gaze at (opsesthe) me (me)!'?

 

And (kai) that (hoti), 'I get underway (hupagō) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera).’?”

 

John 16:18 Therefore (oun), they were saying (elegon), “What (ti) is (estin) this (touto) which (ho) he says (legei), ‘[A] little (mikron) [time, AE]?’ 

 

We have absolutely not seen (ouk oidamen) what (ti) he says (lalei)!”

 

John 16:19 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) knew (egnō) that (hoti) they were desiring (ēthelon) to inquire (erōtan) of him (auton), and (kai) he enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), Do you search (zēteite) about (peri) this (toutou) with (met’) one another (allēlōn), that (hoti) I enunciated (eipon), ‘[A] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you can absolutely not observe (ou theōreite) me (me)!? 

 

And (kai) again (palin) [a] little (mikron) [time, AE] and (kai) you shall cause yourselves to gaze at (opsesthe) me (me)?’

 

John 16:20 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin), that (hoti) you shall weep (klausete), and (kai) you shall sing [a] dirge2354 (thrēnēsete), but (de) the (ho) cosmos (kosmos) shall cause itself to rejoice (charēsetai)!  

 

You shall be grieved (lupēthēsesthe);

 

BUT (all’), the (hē) grief (lupē) of you (humōn) shall cause itself to come to pass (genēsetai) into (eis) joy (charan)!

 

John 16:21 (LIT/UBS4) The (hē) female (gunē), when perhaps (hotan) she may bear (tiktē) she has (echei) grief (lupēn), because (hoti) the (hē) hour (hōra) of her (autēs) has come (ēlthen).  

 

But (de) when perhaps (hotan) the (to) young child (paidion) may have been generated (gennēsē) she absolutely no longer yet remembers (ouketi mnēmoneuei) the (tēs) mental pressure (thlipseōs), through (dia) the (tēn) joy (charan) that (hoti) [a] mortal (anthrōpos) was engendered (egennēthē) into (eis) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon)!

 

John 16:22 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) you (humeis) therefore (oun), now (nun), truly (men), have (echete) grief (lupēn)!

 

But (de) I shall cause myself to gaze at (opsomai) you (humas) again (palin), and (kai) the (hē) heart (kardia) of you (humōn) shall cause itself to rejoice (charēsetai).  

 

And (kai) the (tēn) joy (charan) of you (humōn), absolutely not one (oudeis) steals (airei) [it, AE] from (aph’) you (humōn)!

 

John 16:23 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) in (en) the (tē) day (hēmera) for that (ekeinē) you shall absolutely not inquire (ouk erōtēsete) of me (eme), absolutely not one (ouden) [inquiry, RE]!  

 

Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin), perhaps (an) anything (ti) you may request (aitēsēte) of the (ton) Father (patera) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), he shall give (dōsei) [it, AE] to you (humin)!

 

John 16:24 (LIT/UBS4) Until (heōs) this time (arti) you absolutely did not request (ouk ētēsate) absolutely not one (ouden) [request, RE] in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou)!

 

Request (aiteite), and (kai) you shall cause yourselves to receive (lēmpsesthe), in order that (hina) the (hē) joy (chara) of you (humōn) may be (ē) having been filled full (peplērōmenē)!

 

John 16:25 (LIT/UBS4) These things (tauta) I have spoken (lelalēka) to you (humin) in (en) wayside sayings (paroimiais)

 

[An] hour (hōra) causes itself to come (erchetai) when (hote) absolutely no longer yet (ouketi) shall I speak (lalēsō) to you (humin) in (en) wayside sayings (paroimiais)!

 

BUT (alla), I shall report (apangelō) to you (humin) [in, RE] boldness (parrēsia) about (peri) the (tou) Father (patros)!

 

John 16:26 (LIT/UBS4) In (en) the (tē) day (hēmera) of that (ekeinē) you shall cause yourselves to request (aitēsesthe) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of me (mou), and (kai) I absolutely do not say (ou legō) to you (humin) that (hoti) I (egō) shall inquire (erōtēsō) of the (ton) Father (patera) about (peri) you (humōn)!

 

John 16:27 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (ho) Father (patēr) himself (autos) loves (philei) you (humas), because (hoti) you (humeis) have loved (pephilēkate) me (eme), and (kai) have believed (pepisteukate) that (hoti) I (egō) came out (exēlthon) [from, AE] alongside (para) of the (tou) God (theou).

 

John 16:28 (LIT/UBS4) I came out (exēlthon) [from, AE] alongside (para) of the (tou) Father (patros), and (kai) I have come (elēlutha) into (eis) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon).

 

Again (palin) I let go (aphiēmi) of the (ton) cosmos (kosmon), and (kai) I cause myself to go (poreuomai) to (pros) the (ton) Father (patera).”

 

John 16:29 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) disciples (mathētai) of him (autou) say (legousin), “Look (ide), now (nun) you speak (laleis) in (en) boldness (parrēsia), and (kai) you say (legeis) but absolutely not one (oudemian) wayside saying (paroimian)!

 

John 16:30 (LIT/UBS4) We have seen (oidamen), now (nun), that (hoti) you have seen (oidas) all things (panta), and (kai) you absolutely do not have (ou echeis) [a] need (chreian), in order that (hina) anyone (tis) may inquire (erōta) of you (se) [about them, AE]!

 

In (en) this (toutō) we believe (pisteuomen), that (hoti) you came out (exēlthes) from (apo) God (theou).”

John 16:32 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), [an] hour (hōra) causes itself to come (erchetai), and (kai) it has come (elēluthen), that (hina) you may be scattered (skorpisthēte), each (hekasto) into (eis) the (ta) [place, AE] of his own (idia), and you may let me go (kame aphēte) alone (monon).

 

And (kai) I am (eimi) absolutely not (ouk) alone (monos), because (hoti) the (ho) Father (patēr) is (estin) with (met’) me (emou)!

BUT (alla), have courage (tharseite), I have conquered (nenikēka) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon)!”
