JOHN

Chapter 10

Update:  2024.10.07

John 10:1 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin), the one (ho) not (mē) causing himself to enter in (eiserchomenos) into (eis) the (tēn) courtyard (aulēn) of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn) through (dia) the (tēs) door (thuras), BUT (alla), is stepping up (anabainōn) another way (allachothen), that one (ekeinos) is (estin) [a] thief (kleptēs), and (kai) [a] robber (lēstēs)!

John 10:2 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the one (ho) causing himself to enter in (eiserchomenos) through (dia) the (tēs) door (thuras) is (estin) [a] shepherd (poimēn) of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn).

John 10:3 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) door-keeper (thurōros) opens up (anoigei) to this one (tout), and (kai) the (ta) sheep (probata) hear (akouei) the (tēs) voice (phōnēs) of him (autou).

And (kai) he sounds (phōnēi) for the (ta) sheep (probata) of his own (idia) down (kat’) by name (onoma), and (kai) he leads them out (exagei auta).

John 10:4 (LIT/UBS4) Perhaps when (hotan) he may throw out (ekbalē) all (panta) the (ta) [sheep, v3, RE] of his own (idia), he causes himself to go (poreuetai) in front (emprosthen) of them (autōn).

And (kai) the (ta) sheep (probata) follow (akolouthei) him (autō), because (hoti) they have known (oidasin) the (tēn) voice (phōnēn) of him (autou).

John 10:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [the voice, v4, RE] of another (allotriō) they shall no, absolutely not follow (ou mē akolouthēsousin) [it, AE]!

BUT (alla), they cause themselves to flee (pheuxontai) from (ap’) him (autou), because (hoti) they have absolutely not known (ouk oidasin) the (tēn) voice (phōnēn), the (tōn) [voice, RE] of another (allotriōn)!”

John 10:6 (LIT/UBS4) This (tautēn) [is] the (tēn) wayside saying (paroimian) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to them (autois)

But (de) [the Pharisees, v9:40, RE] absolutely did not know (ouk egnōsan) what things (tina) those things (ekeinoi) were being (ēn) [sic], which (ha) he was speaking (elalei) to them (autois)!

John 10:7 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) again (palin) to them (autois), “Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin) that (hoti), I (egō) am (eimi) the (hē) door (thura) of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn)!

John 10:8 (LIT/UBS4) All (pantes), as many as (hosoi) came (ēlthon) before (pro) me (emou), they are (eisin) thieves (kleptai) and (kai) robbers (lēstai).

BUT (all’), the (ta) sheep (probata) absolutely did not hear (ouk ēkousan) them (autōn)!

John 10:9 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) am (eimi) the (hē) door (thura).

Through (di’) me (emou), if perhaps (ean) anyone (tis) may enter in (eiselthē), he shall be kept whole (sōthēsetai)

And (kai) he shall cause himself to enter in (eiseleusetai), and (kai) he shall cause himself to come out (exeleusetai), and (kai) he shall find (heurēsei) [a] pasture (nomēn).

(For the way leading into life having been smothered, and for the lawyers having stolen the key of knowledge so that others cannot enter in, and subsequently for believers having to force themselves into the Kingdom of the Heavens, see Mat. 7:13-14, 21, 11:12, 16:19, 18:3-9, 19:17-26; Mark 9:43-48, 10:23-25; Luke 11:52, 13:24, 16:16, 18:16-27; John 3:3-6, 10:1-9; Acts 14:21-22)

John 10:10 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) thief (kleptēs) absolutely does not cause himself to come (ouk erchetai) if (ei) not (mē) in order that (hina) he may steal (klepsē), and (kai) he may sacrifice (thusē), and (kai) he may destroy (apolesē) [the sheep, v8, RE]!

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

I (egō) came (ēlthon) in order that (hina) they may hold (echōsi) life (zōēn), and (kai) they may hold (echōsin) [life, RE] around abundantly (perisson)!

John 10:11 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) am (eimi) the (ho) beautiful (kalos) shepherd (poimēn).

The (ho) beautiful (kalos) shepherd (poimēn) puts (tithēsin) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of him (autou) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn).

John 10:12 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) wage earner (misthōtos), absolutely not (ouk) being (ōn) [a] shepherd (poimēn) also (kai), of whom (hou) the (ta) sheep (probata) are (estin) absolutely not (ouk) his own (idia), he observes (theōrei) the (ton) wolf (lukon) causing itself to come (erchomenon) and (kai) he flees (pheugei)

And (kai) the (ho) wolf (lukos) snatches (harpazei) them (auta), and (kai) scatters (skorpizei) [the sheep, v12, RE];

John 10:13 (LIT/UBS4) because (hoti) he is (estin) [a] wage earner (misthōtos), and (kai) it absolutely does not matter (ou melei) to him (autō) about (peri) the (tōn) sheep (probatōn)!

John 10:14 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) am (eimi) the (ho) shepherd (poimēn), the (ho) beautiful one (kalos).

And (kai) I know (ginōskō) the (ta) [sheep, v12, RE] [being] mine (ema), and (kai) the (ta) [sheep, v12, RE] [being] mine (ema) know (ginōskousi) me (me).

John 10:15 (LIT/UBS4) Down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Father (patēr) knows (ginōskei) me (me), and I (kagō) know (ginōskō) the (ton) Father (patera), I place (tithēmi) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) also (kai) of me (mou) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn).

John 10:16 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) I have (echō) other (alla) sheep (probata), ones which (ha) are (estin) absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of the (tēs) courtyard (aulēs) of this (tautēs)

It is required (dei) of me (me) to lead (agagein) those ones also (kakeina).

And (kai) they shall hear (akousousin) the (tēs) voice (phōnēs) of me (mou).

And (kai) they shall cause themselves to become (genēsontai) one (mia) flock (poimnē), of one (heis) shepherd (poimēn).

(For a scriptural description of the two distinct Israels, the flesh-based Israel and the Spirit-based Israel, see John 10:16; Rom. 9:6-33, 7, 33; 1 Cor. 10:18)

John 10:17 (LIT/UBS4) Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of this (touto) the (ho) Father (patēr) loves (agapa) me (me):

because (hoti) I (egō) place (tithēmi) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of me (mou) [over the sake of the sheep, v15, RE], in order that (hina) I may receive (labō) her (autēn) again (palin).

John 10:18 (LIT/UBS4) Absolutely not one (oudeis) steals (airei) her (autēn) from (ap’) me (emou)!

BUT (all’), I (egō) place (tithēmi) her (autēn) [over the sake of the sheep, v15, RE] from (ap’) of myself (emautou)!

I hold (echō) authority (exousian) to place (theinai) her (autēn) [over the sake of the sheep, v15, RE], and (kai) I hold (echō) authority (exousian) to receive (labein) her (autēn) again (palin)!

This (tautēn) [is] the (tēn) injunction (entolēn) I received (elabon) alongside (para) of the (tou) Father (patros) of me (mou).”

John 10:19 (LIT/UBS4) [A] schism (schisma) caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) again (palin) among (en) the (tois) Judeans (Ioudaiois), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (tous) words (logous) of these (toutous).

(For the teachings and ministry of Jesus Christ affecting division among the people of Israel, see Mat. 3:10-12, 10:34-39; Luke 2:34, 3:9, 16-17, 12:49-53; John 7:43, 9:16, 10:19, 15:6; 2 Thes. 1:8-9; Heb. 1:7; and division among the ethnic groups, see 1 Cor. 1:10-11, 11:18-19, 12:25)

John 10:20 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) many (polloi) out (ek) of them (autōn) were saying (elegon), "He holds (echei) [a] little demon (daimonion)", and (kai), "He is making himself maniacal (mainetai)!

Why (ti) do you hear (akouete) him (autou)!?”

John 10:21 (LIT/UBS4) Other ones (alloi) were saying (elegon), “These (tauta) are (estin) absolutely not (ouk) the (ta) statements (rhēmata) of one being demon-possessed (daimonizomenou)!

[A] little demon (daimonion) can not inherently power itself (mē dunatai) to open up (anoixai) eyes (ophthalmous) of blind ones (tuphlōn)?”

John 10:22 (LIT/UBS4) Then (tote) the (ta) Renewal1456 (enkainia) caused itself to come to pass (egeneto) among (en) the ones (tois) [in, AE] Jerusalem (Hierosolumois)

It was being (ēn) winter (cheimōn).

John 10:23 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was walking around (periepatei) in (en) the (tō) sacred place (hierō), in (en) the (tē) porch (stoa) of the (tou) Solomon (Solomōnos).

John 10:24 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (hoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) circled (ekuklōsan) him (auton), and (kai) they were saying (elegon) to him (autō), “Until (heōs) when (pote) do you steal (aireis) the (tēn) soul (psuchēn) of us (hēmōn)?

If (ei) you (su) are (ei) the (ho) Christ (Christos) enunciate (eipe) [it, AE] to us (hēmin) [in, AE] boldness (parrēsia)!”

John 10:25 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē) for them (autois), “I enunciated (eipon) [it, AE] to you (humin), and (kai) you absolutely do not believe (ou pisteuete) [it, AE]!

The (ta) works (erga) which (ha) I (egō) do (poiō) in (en) the (tō) name (onomati) of the (tou) Father (patros) of me (mou), these (touta) witness (marturei) about (peri) me (emou).

(For what is the scriptural definition of the meaning of, “being baptized in the name of…”, compare Mat. 28:19; John 5:37-43, 10:25, 13:6-15; Acts 4:7, 9:17-18, 19:5, 22:16; Rom. 1:1-6; Eph. 5:26; Titus 3:5; Rev. 1:5)

John 10:26 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), you (humeis) absolutely do not believe (ou pisteuete), because (hoti) you are (este) absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of the (tōn) sheep (probatōn), [out, RE] of the (tōn) [sheep, RE] of mine (emōn)!

John 10:27 (LIT/UBS4) The (ta) sheep (probata), the ones (ta) of me (ema), they hear (akouousin) the (tēs) voice (phōnēs) of me (mou)

And I (kagō) know (ginōskō) them (auta), and (kai) they follow (akolouthousin) me (moi).

John 10:28 (LIT/UBS4) And I (kagō) give (didōmi) to them (autois) ageless (aiōnion) life (zōēn).

And (kai) no (mē), absolutely not may they lose themselves (ou apolōntai) into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna)

And (kai) absolutely not (ouch) anyone (tis) shall snatch (harpasei) them (auta) out (ek) of the (tēs) hand (cheiros) of me (mou)!

John 10:29 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Father (patēr) of me (moi), who (ho) has given (dedōken) all (pantōn) [of them, v28, RE] to me (moi), is (estin) [a] greater one (meizon) [than me, AE].

And (kai) absolutely not one (oudeis) can inherently power himself (dunatai) to snatch (harpazein) [them, v28, RE] out (ek) of the (tēs) hand (cheiros) of the (tou) Father (patros)!

John 10:30 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) and (kai) the (ho) Father (patēr), we are (esmen) one (hen) [shepherd, v16, RE].”

(See 2 Cor. 5:19, that the Spirit, God (John 4:24) was IN the mortal man Jesus Christ, (1 Tim. 2:5), the mediator, working IN and THROUGH him to reconcile the cosmos to himself.  When a believer receives a new birth above in God's one Spirit (1 Cor. 6:17, 12:13; Eph. 2:18, 4:4), then he or she becomes one also (John 17:22; Rom. 12:5) with the Father.  Those who have received God's one Spirit are no longer in flesh but in Spirit (Rom. 8:9-11; 2 Cor. 6:16; 1 John 4:13), because they have become one with the Father through being in Christ Jesus' one body.)

John 10:31 (LIT/UBS4) Again (palin) the (hoi) Judeans (ioudaioi) carried (ebastasan) stones (lithous) in order that (hina) they may stone (lithasōsin) him (auton).

John 10:32 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē) for them (autois), “Many (polla) beautiful (kala) works (erga) out (ek) of the (tou) Father (patros) I thoroughly showed (edeixa) to you (humin).

Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of which (poion) work (ergon) of them (autōn) do you stone (lithazete) me (eme)?”

John 10:33 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) were caused to make [a] decision (apekrithēsan) for him (autō), “About (peri) [a] beautiful (kalou) work (ergou) we absolutely do not (ou) stone (lithazomen) you (se)

BUT (alla), about (peri) [a] blasphemy (blasphēmias), and (kai) because (hoti) you (su) being (ōn) [a] mortal (anthrōpos) you make (poieis) yourself (seauton) [a] god (theon)!”

John 10:34 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē) for them (aitois), “Is it (estin) absolutely not having been written (ouk gegrammenon) in (en) the (tō) law (nomō) of you (humōn), that (hoti), ‘I (egō) enunciated (eipa), you are (este) gods (theoi, elohim)!?

(See Psalm 82:6)

John 10:35 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) those (ekeinous) he enunciated (eipen) [to be] gods (theous), to (pros) whom (hous) the (ho) Word (logos) of the (tou) God (theou) caused itself to come to pass (egeneto), and (kai) the (hē) writing (graphē) can absolutely not (ou) inherently power itself (dunatai) to be undone (luthēnai),

John 10:36 (LIT/UBS4) [the one, AE] whom (hon) the (ho) Father (patēr) made holy (hēgiasen) and (kai) sent (apesteilen) into (eis) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon), you (humeis) say (legete) that (hoti) he blasphemes (blasphēmeis), because (hoti) I enunciated (eipon), ‘I am (eimi) [a/the] son (huios) of the (tou) God (theou)!?’

(Jesus Christ always stated that the Father, his Father, is the God.  Jesus Christ never stated that he himself is the Father or the God.  See John 5:18, 6:27, 45-46, 8:41-42, 10:36, 13:3, 20:17;  The apostles always wrote that Jesus' heavenly Father was the God, and that Jesus Christ was his firstborn son whom he sent into the cosmos, describing God the Father and his firstborn son as two separate and distinct beings, describing the son being subordinate to the Father.)

John 10:37 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) I absolutely do not do (ou poiō) the (ta) works (erga) of the (tou) Father (patros) of me (mou), do not believe (mē pisteuete) me (moi)!

John 10:38 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) I do (poiō) [the works of the Father, v37, RE], and if perhaps (kan) you may not believe (mē pisteuēte) me (emoi), believe (pisteuete) the (tois) works (ergois), in order that (hina) you may know (gnōte) [I am [a/the] son of the God, v36, RE];

and (kai) you may know (ginōskēte) that (hoti) the (ho) Father (patēr) [is] in (en) me (emoi), and I (kagō) [am] in (en) the (tō) Father (patri)!”

(For God making Jesus Christ his domicile, and he subsequently working IN and THROUGH Jesus Christ as his mortal agent in this cosmos, see *Mat. 9:8; Mark 6:5; Luke 5:17, 7:16; John 3:2, 5:19-20, 8:16, *29, 9:33, *10:38, *14:10-11, *16-20, 28, 16:32b; *Acts 2:22, 10:38; *2 Cor. 5:18-19; Eph. 3:16-19, 4:6; *Col. 1:19-20, 2:9; 1 John 5:20)

John 10:39 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), they were searching (ezētoun) for him (auton) again (palin) to catch (piasai) [him, RE].

And (kai) he came out (exēlthen) out (ek) of the (tēs) hand (cheiros) of them (autōn).

John 10:40 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he went away (apēlthen) again (palin) [into, RE] [the] other side (peran) of the (tou) Jordan (Iordanou), into (eis) the (ton) place (topon) where (hopou) John (Ioannēs) was being (ēn) the (to) first (prōton) [time, AE], baptizing (baptizōn).

And (kai) he stayed (emeinen) there (ekei).

John 10:41 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) many (polloi) came (ēlthon) to (pros) him (auton)

And (kai) they were saying (elegon) that (hoti), “Truly (men), John (Iōannēs) did (epoiēsen) absolutely not one (ouden) sign (sēmeion)!

But (de) all things (panta), as many as (hosa) John (Iōannēs) enunciated (eipen) about (peri) this one (toutou), they were being (ēn) <sic> truths (alēthē).”

John 10:42 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) many (polloi) there (ekei) believed (episteusan) into (eis) him (auton).
