JOHN

Chapter 8

Update:  2024.06.23

John 8:1-11 (LIT/UBS4) Not authentic, trustworthy scholars consider this passage to be another forgery into the biblical text..

(For John 7:53 – 8:11, of the seven highly respected textual critics, Griesbach considers it doubtful, and Lachmann, Tischendorf, Tregelles and Alford omit it.)

John 8:12 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) spoke (elalēsen) to them (autois) again (palin), saying (legōn), “I (egō) am (eimi) the (to) light (phōs) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou).

The one (ho) following (akolouthōn) me (emoi) may no, absolutely not walk around (mē ou peripatēsē) in (en) the (tē) dark (skotia)!

BUT (all’), he shall have (hexei) the (to) light (phōs) of the (tēs) life (zōēs)!”

(For Jesus Christ being prophesied as a great light coming, the one who would shed light on the knowledge of God’s Word for a people being caused to sit down in darkness, see Isa. 9:1-2, 49:1-6; Mat. 4:12-16, 10:26-27; *Mark 4:21-23; Luke 1:76-79, 2:25-32, 8:16-17, 11:33, 12:1-3; John 1:1-14, 3:1-21, 8:12, 9:5, 11:9-10, 12:34-36, 41-46; Acts 13:46-47, 26:22-23; 2 Cor. 4:1-6; Eph. 5:8, 13, 14; Col. 1:12; 1 Thes. 5:5; 1 Pet. 2:9; 2 Pet. 1:19; 1 John 2:8-10.)

John 8:13 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (hoi) Pharisees (Pharisaioi) enunciated (eipon) to him (autō), “You (su) witness (martureis) about (peri) yourself (seautou);

the (hē) witness (marturia) of you (sou) is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) true (alēthēs)!”

John 8:14 (LIT/UBS4) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē), and (kai) he enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “And if perhaps (kan) I (egō) may witness (marturō) about (peri) myself (emautou), the (hē) witness (marturia) of me (mou) is (estin) true (alēthēs);

because (hoti) I have seen (oida) from where (pothen) I came (ēlthon), and (kai) of where (pou) I get underway (hupagō).

But (de) you (humeis) have absolutely not seen (ouk oidate) from where (pothen) I am caused to come (erchomai), or (ē) of where (pou) I get underway (hupagō)!

John 8:15 (LIT/UBS4) You (humeis) judge (krinete) down according to (kata) the (tēn) flesh (sarka).

I (egō) absolutely do not judge (ou krinō), absolutely not one (oudena)!!

John 8:16 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if perhaps (ean) I (egō) also (kai) may judge (krinō), the (hē) judgment (krisis), the one (hē) of me (emē) is (estin) [a] true one (alēthinē)!

Because (hoti) I am (eimi) absolutely not (ouk) alone (monos)!

BUT (all’), I (egō) [am with, AE] the one (ho) having sent (pempsas) me (me), [the] Father (patēr) also (kai)!

(For God making Jesus Christ his domicile, and he subsequently working IN and THROUGH Jesus Christ as his mortal agent in this cosmos, see *Mat. 9:8; Mark 6:5; Luke 5:17, 7:16; John 3:2, 5:19-20, 8:16, *29, 9:33, *10:38, *14:10-11, *16-20, 28, 16:32b; *Acts 2:22, 10:38; *2 Cor. 5:18-19; Eph. 3:16-19, 4:6; *Col. 1:19-20, 2:9; 1 John 5:20)

John 8:17 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) in (en) the (tō) law (nomō), but (de) the one (tō) [being] your own (humeterō), it has been written (gegraptai) that (hoti) the (hē) witness (marturia) of two (duo) mortals (anthrōpōn) is (estin) true (alēthēs).

John 8:18 (LIT/UBS4) I (egō) am (eimi) the one (ho) witnessing (marturōn) about (peri) myself (emautou), and (kai) the one (ho) having sent (pempsas) me (me), [the] Father (patēr), witnesses (marturei) about (peri) me (emou).”

John 8:19 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), they were saying (elegon) to him (autō), “Where (pou) is (estin) the (ho) Father (patēr) of you (sou)?"

Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē), “And you have absolutely not seen (oute oidate) me (eme), and absolutely not (oute) the (ton) Father (patera) of me (mou)!

If (ei) you would have seen (ēdeite) me (eme) perhaps (an) you would have seen (ēdeite) the (ton) Father (patera) of me (mou) also (kai)!”

John 8:20 (LIT/UBS4) These (tauta) [are] the (ta) statements (rhēmata) he spoke (elalēsen) in (en) the (tō) treasury (gazophulakiō), in (en) the (tō) sacred place (hierō).

And (kai) absolutely not one (oudeis) caught (epiasen) him (auton), because (hoti) the (hē) hour (hōra) of him (autou) had absolutely not yet come (oupō elēluthei)!

John 8:21 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), he enunciated (eipen) again (palin) to them (autois), “I (egō) get underway (hupagō), and (kai) you shall search (zētēsete) for me (me).

And (kai) you shall cause yourselves to die away (apothaneisthe) in (en) the (tē) sin (hamartia) of you (humōn).

Of where (hopou) I (egō) get underway (hupagō) you (humeis) can absolutely not inherently power yourselves (ou dunasthe) to come (elthein)!”

John 8:22 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (hoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) were saying (elegon), “What, shall he not (mēti) kill (apoktenei) himself (heauton), because (hoti) he says (legei), ‘Of where (hopou) I (egō) get underway (hupagō) you (humeis) can absolutely not inherently power yourselves (ou dunasthe) to come (elthein)!'?”

John 8:23 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he was saying (elegen) to them (autois), “You (humeis) are (este) out (ek) of the things (tōn) down below (katō);

I (egō) am (eimi) out (ek) of the things (tōn) up high (anō).

You (humeis) are (este) out (ek) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) of this (toutou);

I (egō) am (eimi) absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou) of this (toutou)!”

John 8:24 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), I enunciated (eipon) to you (humin) that (hoti) you shall cause yourselves to die away (apothaneisthe) in (en) the (tais) sins (hamartiais) of you (humōn).

Because (gar) if perhaps (ean) you may not believe (mē pisteusēte) that (hoti) I (egō) am (eimi) [out of the things up high, v23, RE], you shall cause yourselves to die away (apothaneisthe) in (en) the (tais) sins (hamartiais) of you (humōn).”

John 8:25 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), they were saying (elegon) to him (autō), “Who (tis) are (ei) you (su)!?”

The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “The (tēn) beginning one746 (archēn), someone (ti) who (ho) speaks (lalō) to you (humin) also (kai)

John 8:26 (LIT/UBS4) I hold (echō) many things (polla) about (peri) to speak (lalein), and (kai) to judge (krinein) of you (humōn).

BUT (all’), the one (ho) having sent (pempsas) me (me) is (estin) [a] true one (alēthēs)!

And I (kagō), things which (ha) I heard (ēkousa) alongside (par’) of him (autou), these things (tauta) I speak (lalō) into (eis) the (ton) cosmos (kosmon).”

(For the Word’s heavenly pre-existence as a spirit-based being see Prov. 8:22-31; Dan. 3:25-28; John 1:1-2, 14, 30, 3:13, 31, 6:33, 38, 41, 50-51, 58-62, 8:23-26, 58, 13:3, 16:27-30, 17:5-8, 24; Rom. 8:29; 1 Cor. 10:4, 9, 15:47; Gal. 4:1-5; Eph. 4:8-10, Phil. 2:6-7; Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:4-6, 3:2; 1 Pet. 1:20; 1 John 1:2; Rev. 3:14)

John 8:27 (LIT/UBS4) They absolutely did not know (ouk egnōsan) that (hoti) he was speaking (elegen) to them (autois) of the (ton) Father (patera)!

John 8:28 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “When perhaps (hotan) you may set above5312 (hupsōsēte) the (ho) Son (huion) of the (tou) Mortal (anthrōpou), then (tote) you shall cause yourselves to know (gnōsesthe) that (hoti) I (egō) am (eimi) [sent, v26, RE], and (kai) from (ap’) of myself (emautou) I do (poiō) absolutely not one (ouden) [thing, v26, RE]!

BUT (alla), down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Father (patēr) taught (edidaxen) me (me), these (tauta) [things, v26, RE] I speak (lalō)!

John 8:29 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (ho) [Father, v28, RE] having sent (pempsas) me (me) is (estin) with (met') me (emou).

The (ho) Father (patēr) has absolutely not let go (ouk aphēken) of me (me) [to be] alone (monon), because (hoti) I (egō) always (pantote) do (poiō) the (ta) [things, v26, RE] agreeable (aresta) to him (autō)!"

John 8:30 (LIT/UBS4) [Yet while, AE] he is speaking (lalountos) these things (tauta), many (polloi) believed (episteusan) into (eis) him (auton).

John 8:31 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was saying (elegen) to (pros) the (tous) Judeans (ioudaious) having believed (pepisteukotas) him (autō), “If perhaps (ean) you (humeis) may stay (meinēte) in (en) to the (tō) Word (logō), to the (tō) [Word, RE] of me (emō), you are (este) truly (alēthōs) disciples (mathētai) of me (mou)!

John 8:32 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) you shall cause yourselves to know (gnōsesthe) the (tēn) Truth (alētheian), and (kai) the (hē) Truth (alētheia) shall free (eleutherōsei) you (humas).”

John 8:33 (LIT/UBS4) They were caused to make [a] decision (apekrithēsan) to (pros) him (auton), “We are (esmen) seed/sperm (sperma) of Abraham (Abraam), and (kai) to absolutely not one (oudeni) have we been slaves (dedouleukamen) ever at any time (pōpote)!

How (pōs) do you say (su legeis) that (hoti), ‘You shall cause yourselves to become (genēsesthe) free ones (eleutheroi)?'”

John 8:34 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē) for them (autois), “Truly (amēn), truly (amēn), I say (legō) to you (humin) that (hoti) everyone (pas), the one (ho) doing (poiōn) the (tēn) sin (hamartian) is (estin) [a] slave (doulos) of the (tēs) sin (hamartias)!

John 8:35 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) slave (doulos) [of the sin, v34, RE] absolutely does not stay (ou menei) in (en) the (tē) house (oikia) into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna)!

The (ho) son (huios) stays (menei) [in the house, RE] into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna).

John 8:36 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), if perhaps (ean) the (ho) son (huios) may free (eleutherōsē) you (humas) [from sin, v34, RE], you shall cause yourselves to be (esesthe) really (ontōs) free ones (eleutheroi).

John 8:37 (LIT/UBS4) I have seen (oida) that (hoti) you are (este) seed/sperm (sperma) of Abraham (Abraam).

BUT (alla), you search (zēteite) to kill (apokteinai) me (me), because (hoti) the (ho) Word (logos), the one (ho) of me (emos), absolutely does not find room (ou chōrei) in (en) you (humin)!

John 8:38 (LIT/UBS4) The things (ha) I (egō) have gazed at (heōraka) alongside3844, 3936 (para) to the (tō) Father (patri), I speak (lalō)

And (kai) you (humeis), therefore (oun), do (poieite) the things (ha) you heard (ēkousate) alongside3844 (para) of the (tou) father (patros) [of you, AE].”

John 8:39 (LIT/UBS4) They were caused to make [a] decision (apekrithēsan), and (kai) they enunciated (eipan) to him (autō), “The (ho) father (patēr) of us (hēmōn) is (estin) Abraham (Abraam).”

The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) says (legei) to them (autois), “If (ei) you are (este) ones born (tekna) of the (tou) Abraham (Abraam), you would have been doing (epoieite) the (ta) works (erga) of Abraham (Abraam)!”

John 8:40 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now (nun) you search (zēteite) to kill (apokteinai) me (me), [a] mortal (anthrōpon), who (hos) has spoken (lelalēka) the (tēn) Truth (alētheian) which (hēn) I heard (ēkousa) alongside3844, 3936 (para) of the (tou) God (theou)

This (touto) Abraham (Abraam) absolutely did not (ouk) do (epoiēsen)!

John 8:41 (LIT/UBS4) You (humeis) do (poieite) the (ta) works (erga) of the (tou) father (patros) of you (humōn).”

Therefore (oun), they enunciated (eipan) to him (autō), “We (hēmeis) have absolutely not been generated (ou gegennēmetha) out (ek) of fornication (porneias)

We have (echomen) one (hena) Father (patera), the (ton) God (theon).”

John 8:42 (LIT/UBS4) The (ho) Jesus (Iēsous) enunciated (eipen) to them (autois), “If (ei) the (ho) God (theos) was being (ēn) [the] Father (patēr) of you (humōn), perhaps (an) you would be loving (ēgapate) me (eme), because (gar) I (egō) came out (exēlthon) out (ek) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) I arrive (hēkō)

Because (gar) but absolutely not (oude) from (ap’) of myself (emautou) have I come (elēlutha)!

BUT (all’), that (ekeinos) [God, RE] sent (apesteilen) me (me)!

(Jesus Christ always stated that the Father, his Father, is the God.  Jesus Christ never stated that he himself is the Father or the God.  See John 5:18, 6:27, 45-46, 8:41-42, 10:36, 13:3, 20:17;  The apostles always wrote that Jesus' heavenly Father was the God, and that Jesus Christ was his firstborn son whom he sent into the cosmos, describing God the Father and his firstborn son as two separate and distinct beings, describing the son being subordinate to the Father.)

(For a believer's responsibility to stand himself alongside of the Father through doing good works, in order to receive anything from him, see Mat. 6:1-4, 18:19, 19:26, 21:42; Mark 10:27, 12:11; Luke 1:30, 37; John 5:44, 6:45-46, 8:38-42, 9:16, 33, 17:5-8; Rom. 2:11-13, 6:13, 12:1; 1 Cor. 7:24, 8:8a; 2 Cor. 9:8; Gal. 3:11; Eph. 6:8; 1 Tim. 2:10; 2 Tim. 3:17; Tit. 2:14, 3:8,14; Heb. 10:24; James 1:5-7, 27; 1 Pet. 2:20-21; 2 Pet. 3:8; 2 John 1:3; Rev. 2:28)

John 8:43 (LIT/UBS4) Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of what (ti) do you absolutely not know (ou ginōskete) the (tēn) speech (lalian), the (tēn) [speech, RE] of me (mou)!?

[Is it, AE] because (hoti) you can absolutely not inherently power yourselves (ou dunasthe) to hear (akouein) the (ton) Word (logon), the one (ton) of me (emon)!?

John 8:44 (LIT/UBS4) You (humeis) are (este) out (ek) of the (tou) father (patros) [of you, RE], the (tou) diabolical one (diabolou);

and (kai) you desire (thelete) to do (poiein) the (tas) lusts (epithumias) of the (tou) father (patros) of you (humōn)!

(See Rev. 2:9)

(For the Israel after the flesh doing sacrifices to little demons, see 1 Cor. 10:18-21)

That one (ekeinos) was being (ēn) [a] mortal-killer (anthrōpoktonos) from (ap’) [the] beginning (archēs).

And (kai) he has absolutely not been standing (ouk estēken) in (en) the (tē) Truth (alētheia), because (hoti) Truth (alētheia) is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) in (en) him (autō)!

When perhaps (hotan) he may speak (lalē) the (to) falsehood (pseudos), he speaks (lalei) out (ek) of the things (tōn) of his own (idiōn);

because (hoti) he is (estin) [a] false one (pseustēs), and (kai) the (ho) father (patēr) of it (autou)!

(For the Judean religious leadership being of the synagogue of Satan, see Rev. 2:9)

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

John 8:45 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) because (hoti) I (egō) speak (legō) the (tēn) Truth (alētheian), you absolutely do not believe (ou pisteuete) me (moi)!?

John 8:46 (LIT/UBS4) Who (tis) out (ex) of you (humōn) reproves (elenchei) me (me) about (peri) sin (hamartias)?

If (ei) I speak (legō) Truth (alētheian), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of what (ti) do you (humeis) absolutely not believe (ou pisteuete) me (moi)!?

John 8:47 (LIT/UBS4) The one (ho) being (ōn) out (ek) of the (tou) God (theou) hears (akouei) the (ta) statements (rhēmata) of the (tou) God (theou)

Through (dia) [the sake, AE] of this (touto) you (humeis) absolutely do not (ouk) hear (akouete) [the statements of the God, RE], because (hoti) you are (este) absolutely not (ouk) out (ek) of the (tou) God (theou)!”

(For a believer in his discipleship to Christ Jesus being led to being stripped of the power of holy Spirit through false teaching, see Mat. 15:9; John 8:31-47; Rom. 1:21-22; 2 Cor. 10:5-6; 11:13-15; Eph. 5:6-12; *Col. 2:8; 2 Tim. 3:1-15, 4:3-4; Tit. 1:10-14)

John 8:48 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) were caused to make [a] decision (apekrithēsan), and (kai) they enunciated (eipan) to him (autō), “Do we (hēmeis) absolutely not (ou) say (legomen) beautifully (kalōs) that (hoti) you (su) are (ei) [a] Samaritan (Samaritēs), and (kai) you hold (echeis) [a] little demon (daimonion)!?”

John 8:49 (LIT/UBS4) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē), “I (egō) absolutely do not (ouk) hold (echō) [a] little demon (daimonion)

BUT (alla), I honor (timō) the (ton) Father (patera) of me (mou), and (kai) you (humeis) dishonor (atimazete) me (me)!

John 8:50 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) absolutely do not search (ou zētō) for the (tēn) glory (doxan) of me (mou)

He is (estin) the one (ho) searching (zētōn) and (kai) judging (krinōn).

John 8:51 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (amēn), truly (amēn) I say (legō) to you (humin), if perhaps (ean) anyone (tis) may watchfully keep (tērēsē) the (ton) Word (logon) of me (emon), no, absolutely not may he observe (mē ou theōrēsē) death (thanaton) into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna)!”

John 8:52 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), the (hoi) Judeans (Ioudaioi) enunciated (eipon) to him (autō), “Now (nun) we have known (egnōkamen) that (hoti) you hold (echeis) [a] little demon (daimonion)

Abraham (Abraam) died away (apethanen), and (kai) the (hoi) prophets (prophētai).

And (kai) you (su) say (legeis), ‘If perhaps (ean) anyone (tis) may watchfully keep (tērēsē) the (ton) Word (logon) of me (mou), no, absolutely not may he cause himself to taste (mē ou geusētai) of death (thanatou) into (eis) the (ton) age (aiōna)!’?

John 8:53 (LIT/UBS4) You (su) are (ei) not (mē) [a] greater one than (meizōn) the (tou) father (patros) of us (hēmōn), Abraham (Abraam), who (hostis) died away (apethanen), and (kai) the (hoi) prophets (prophētai) died away (apethanon)

Whom (tina) do you make (poieis) yourself (seauton) [to be]!?”

John 8:54 (LIT/UBS4) Jesus (Iēsous) was caused to make [a] decision (apekrithē), “If perhaps (ean) I (egō) may glorify (doxasō) myself (emauton) the (hē) glory (doxa) of me (mou) is (estin) absolutely not one (ouden) [glory, RE]!

The (ho) Father (patēr) of me (mou) is (estin) the one (ho) glorifying (doxazōn) me (me), whom (hon) you (humeis) say (legete) that (hoti) he is (estin) God (theos) of us (hēmōn).

John 8:55 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) you have absolutely not known (ouk egnōkate) him (auton)

But (de) I (egō) have seen (oida) him (auton)

And if perhaps (kan) I may enunciate (eipō) that (hoti), ‘I have absolutely not seen (ouk oida) him (auton)’, I shall cause myself to be (esomai) one like (homoios) you (humin), [a] false one (pseustēs)

BUT (alla), I have seen (oida) him (auton), and (kai) the (ton) Word (logon) of him (autou) I watchfully keep (tērō)!
