Chapter 3
Update: 2024.09.23
Col. 3:1 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), if (ei) you were awakened together with (sunēgerthēte) the (tō) Christ (Christō), search (zēteite) for the things (ta) up high (anō), where (hou) the (ho) Christ (Christos) is (estin) causing himself to sit down (kathēmenos) in (en) to [the] right (dexia) of the (tou) God (theou).
(For Christ Jesus having his own throne, see Mat. 19:28, 25:31; Luke 1:32; Acts 2:30; Col. 3:1; Heb. 1:8, 8:1, 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22; Rev. 3:21, 5:6, 6:16, 7:9, 17, 12:5, 19:9-10, 21:3, 22:1, 3.)
Col. 3:2 (LIT/UBS4) Think (phroneite) of the things (ta) above (anō), not (mē) the things (ta) upon (epi) the (tēs) land (gēs);
Col. 3:3 (LIT/UBS4) because (gar) you died away (apethanete), and (kai) the (hē) life (zōē) of you (humōn) has been hidden (kekruptai) together with (sun) the (tō) Christ (Christō), in (en) the (tō) God (theō).
Col. 3:4 (LIT/UBS4) Perhaps when (hotan) the (ho) Christ (Christos) may be manifested (phanerōthē), then (tote) the (hē) life (zōē) of you (humōn), you (humeis) also (kai), shall be manifested (phanerōthēsesthe) together with (sun) him (autō) in (en) glory (doxē).
Col. 3:5 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), necrotize (nekrōsate) the (ta) members (melē), the ones (ta) [being] upon (epi) the (tēs) land (gēs),
of fornication (porneian), of uncleanliness (akatharsian), of suffering (pathos), of malicious (kakēn) lust (epithumian), and (kai) of the (tēn) covetousness (pleonexian) which (hētis) is (estin) idolatry (eidōlolatria);
Col. 3:6 (LIT/UBS4) through (di’) [the sake] of which things (ha) the (hē) anger (orgē) of the (tou) God (theou) causes itself to come (erchetai) upon (epi) the (tous) sons (huios) of the (tēs) dissuasion (apeitheias);
Col. 3:7 (LIT/UBS4) among (en) whom (hois) you (humeis) also (kai) walked around (periepatēsate) in time past (pote), when (hote) you were living (ezēte) in (en) these things (toutois).
Col. 3:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) now at this moment (nuni), you (humeis) also (kai) cause yourselves to put away (apothesthe) all (panta) of these things (ta):
anger (orgēn), passion (thumon), malice (kakian), blasphemy (blasphēmian), shameful wordage (aischrologian) out (ek) of the (tou) mouth (stomatos) of you (humōn)!
Col. 3:9 (LIT/UBS4) Do not cause yourselves to be false (mē pseudesthe) [brothers, v1:2, ER] into (eis) one another (allēlous), you having disrobed yourselves (apekdusamenoi) of the (ton) old (palaion) mortal (anthropon), together with (sun) the (tais) practices (praxesin) of him (autou);
Col. 3:10 (LIT/UBS4) and (kai) you having enrobed yourselves in (endusamenoi) the (ton) new (neon) [mortal, v9, RE], the one (ton) being freshened up (anakainoumenon) into (eis) experiential knowledge (epignōsin), down according to (kat’) [the] icon (eikona) of the one (tou) having created (ktisantos) him (auton),
(For the physical head of Jesus Christ, as well as the physical heads of all males of mortalkind, being subordinate icons of the glory of the God, see Gen. 1:26-27, 9:6; 1 Cor. 11:7; 2 Cor. 3:18, 4:4; Phil. 2:5-6; Col. 1:15, 3:10; Heb. 1:3)
Col. 3:11 (LIT/UBS4) (of which (hopou) there is absolutely not (ouk eni) [a] Hellene (Hellēn) [brother, v1:2, ER] and (kai) [a] Judean (Ioudaios) [brother, v1:2, ER], [a] circumcised (peritomē) [brother, v1:2, ER] and (kai) [a] prepuced (akrobustia) [brother, v1:2, ER], [a] barbarian (barbaros), [a] Scythian (Skuthēs), [a] bond-slave (doulos), [a] free one (eleutheros),
BUT (alla), the (ta) [brothers, v1:2, ER] [are] all (panta) [new mortals, v9-10, RE], and (kai) Christ (Christos) [is] in (en) all (pasin)).
Col. 3:12 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), as (hōs) called out (eklektoi) [sons, v6, RE] of the (tou) God (theou), [as, RE] holy (hagioi) [sons, v6, RE], and (kai) [as, RE] [sons, v6, RE] having been loved (ēgapēmenoi), enrobe yourselves in (endusasthe) spleens4698 (splanchna) of compassion (oiktirmou), benevolence (chrēstotēta), humility of thought (tapeinophrosunēn), meekness (prautēta), patience (makrothumian);
Col. 3:13 (LIT/UBS4) causing yourselves to hold up (anechomenoi) one another (allēlōn), and (kai) causing yourselves to be gracious (charizomenoi) to yourselves (heautois).
If perhaps (ean) anyone (tis) may have (echē) [a] cause for blame (momphēn) toward (pros) anyone (tina), down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) Lord (kurios) caused himself to be gracious (echarisato) to you (humin) also (kai), thusly (houtōs) you (humeis) also (kai) [cause yourselves to be gracious, RE].
Col. 3:14 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) over (epi) all (pasin) these things (toutois) [enrobe yourselves in, v12, RE] the (tēn) love (agapēn), which (ho) is (estin) [the] bond (sundesmos) of the (tēs) completion (teleiotētos).
Col. 3:15 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) <let> the (hē) peace (eirēnē) of the (tou) Christ (Christou) arbitrate (brabeuetō) in (en) the (tais) hearts (kardiais) of you (humōn), into (eis) which (hēn) you are called aloud (eklēthēte) also (kai), in (en) one (heni) body (sōmati);
and (kai) cause yourselves to become (ginesthe) thankful (eucharistoi).
(For what is God’s prophesied true “tent”, his new holy place under his new covenant, the prophesied promise of the Father to place himself into believers to live in them as his new permanent domicile, a true “tent” not built with mortal’s hands but with his own hand, see Ex. 15:17; 2 Sam. 7:5-16; Isa. 8:14; Ezek. 11:16; Joel 2:28-29; Amos 9:11-12; Mat. 3:11, 16:18, 26:61, 27:39-40; Mark 14:58, 15:29; Luke 3:21-22, 24:49; *John 2:19-22, 3:1-, 4:20-24, 7:37-39, 14:2, *23; Acts 1:4-5, 2:16-18, 33, 38-39, *7:44-50, *15:16-18, *17:24, *20:28; *Rom. 8:9-11, 12:4-5; 1 Cor. *3:16-17, *6:19-20, 10:16-17, 12:12-28; *2 Cor. 5:1, *6:16-18; Gal. 3:14, 22; Eph. 1:13-14, 22-23, *2:17-22, 3:6, 4:11-16, 5:30-32; Col. 1:18-27, 2:6-10, 3:15; *1 Thes. 5:9-11; *1 Tim. 3:15; *2 Tim. 1:14; Heb. *3:4-6, 8:2, *9:11-15, *24, 10:21, 36; 1 Pet. 2:4-5; 1 John 4:12-16; Rev. 3:12, 7:15, 11:19, *13:6, *21:3, 22)
(For which thoughts we are to disciple ourselves to think, see Rom. 8:5-8, 12:2-3, 15-19, 14:4-9, 15:4-7; 1 Cor. 13:11, 14:20; 2 Cor. 13:11; Gal. 5:7-10; Phil. 1:3-7, 2:1-11, 3:8-19; Col. 3:1-15)
Col. 3:16 (LIT/UBS4) <Let> the (ho) Word (logos) of the (tou) Christ (Christou) be in-housed (enoikeitō) in (en) you (humin) richly (plousiōs), in (en) all (pasē) wisdom (sophia);
teaching (didaskontes) and (kai) making mindful (nouthetountes) yourselves (heautous) [in, RE] spirit-based (pneumatikais) psalms (psalmois), hymns (humnois), odes (ōdais) in (en) the (tais) grace (charity), singing (adontes) in (en) the (tō) hearts (kardiais) of you (humōn) to the (tō) God (theō).
(the Wisdom of the God – a title of Christ Jesus, the firstborn son of the God. See Mat. 11:19, 12:42, 13:54; Mark 6:2; Luke 2:40, 52, 7:35, 11:31, 11:49, 21:15; Acts 6:3, 9-10, 7:10; *1 Cor. 1:24, 30, 2:4-8, 13, 12:8a; Eph. 1:17-18, *3:8-12; Col. 3:16; James 1:5-6, 3:17; Rev. 5:12.)
Col. 3:17 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) everything (pan), if perhaps (ean) whatever (ti) [is] the thing (ho) you may do (poiēte), in (en) word (logō) or (ē) in (en) [a] work (ergō), [do, RE] all things (panta) in (en) [the] name (onomati) of [the] lord (kuriou), Jesus (Iēsou), you giving thanks well (eucharistountes) to the (tō) God (theō), [the] Father (patri), through (di’) [the sake] of him (autou).
Col. 3:18 (LIT/UBS4) The (hai) females (gunaikes), be in submission (hupotassesthe) to the (tois) males (andrasin) [of you, AE], as (hōs) is being upcoming433 (anēken) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō).
Col. 3:19 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) males (andres), love (agapate) the (tas) females (gunaikas) [of you, AE], and (kai) do not be made bitter (mē pikrainesthe) toward (pros) them (autas).
Col. 3:20 (LIT/UBS4) The (ta) ones born (tekna), obey (hupakouete) the (tois) parents (goneusin) [of you, AE] down according to (kata) all things (panta);
because (gar) this (touto) is (estin) well agreeable (euareston) in (en) [the] lord (kuriō).
Col. 3:21 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) fathers (pateres), do not intrigue (mē erethizete) the (ta) ones born (tekna) of you (humōn), in order that (hina) they may not be uncaring (mē athumōsin).
Col. 3:22 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) slaves (douloi), obey (hupakouete) down according to (kata) all things (panta), to the (tois) lords (kuriois) [of you, AE] down according to (kata) [the] flesh (sarka);
not (mē) in (en) eye service (ophthalmodoulia) as (hōs) mortal-pleasers (anthrōpareskoi), BUT (alla), in (en) singleness of purpose (haplotēti) of heart (kardias), causing yourselves to fear (phoboumenoi) the (ton) lord (kurion)!
Col. 3:23 (LIT/UBS4) If perhaps (ean) whatever thing (ho) you may do (poiēte) out (ek) of [the] soul (psuchēs) [of you, AE], work (ergazesthe) as (hōs) to the (tō) lord (kuriō), and (kai) absolutely not (ouk) to mortals (anthrōpois);
Col. 3:24 (LIT/UBS4) you having seen (eidotes) that (hoti) from (apo) [the] lord (kuriō) you shall receive (apolēmpsesthe) the (tēn) payback (antapodosin) of the (tēs) inheritance (klēronomias)!
Be slaves (douleuete) to the (tō) lord (kuriō), to Christ (Christō).
Col. 3:25 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the one (ho) doing unrighteousness (adikōnadikōn) shall provide for himself (komisetai) for whatever (ho) unrighteousness he did (ēdikēsen);
and (kai) [the lord, v24, RE] is (estin) absolutely not (ouk) [a] taker of face value (prosōpolēmpsia)!
