2 PETER
Chapter 1
Update: 2023.11.23
2 Pet. 1:1 (LIT/UBS4) Simon (simōn) Peter (Petros), [a] slave (doulos) and (kai) apostle (apostalos) of Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou), to the ones (tois) equal in value (isotimon) to us (hēmōn), you having been allotted (lachousin) belief (pistin) in (en) [the] righteousness (dikaiosunē) of the (tou) God (theou) of us (hēmōn), and (kai) [belief in, RE] [a] savior4990 (sōtēros), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou),
(Both
the God and his son Christ Jesus are referred to as
saviors by the apostles. The clear distinction the holy scriptures
make between the roles of the two is that the God
prepared the plan and the
schematic for our salvation
(Heb. 3:1-4; Rom. 3:23-25; Eph. 1:7-9; Luke 1:47; 1 Tim. 1:1, 2:3, 4:10;
2 Tim. 1:9; Tit. 1:2-3, 2:10, 3:4; Jude 1:25, Rev. 7:10), while Christ
Jesus, who caused himself to follow God’s plan and schematic, caused
himself to become God’s enabling one, or instrument of our salvation (Heb. 5:9; Luke 2:11; John 4:42; Acts
5:31, 13:23; Eph. 5:23; Phil. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:10; Tit. 1:2-4, 2:13, 3:6;
2 Pet. 1:1, 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, 18; 1 John 4:14).
2 Pet. 1:2 (LIT/UBS4) grace (charis) to you (humin), and (kai) peace (eirēnē).
May [grace and peace, RE] be made full (plēthuntheiē) [to you, RE] in (en) [the] experiential knowledge (epignōsei) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) of Jesus (Iēsou), the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn);
2 Pet. 1:3 (LIT/UBS4) since (hōs) [the God, v2, RE] having caused himself to make [an] offering (dedōrēmenēs) to us (hēmin) of all things (panta) of the (tēs) Godly (theias) inherent power (dunameōs) of him (autou);
of the things (ta) [being] for (pros) life (zōēn) and (kai) piety (eusebeian), through (dia) the (tēs) experiential knowledge (epignōseōs) of the (tou) [God, v2, RE], he having called us aloud (kalesantos hēmas) to his own (idia) glory (doxēs) and (kai) virtue (aretē);
2 Pet. 1:4 (LIT/UBS4) through (dia) which (hōn) [glory and virtue, v3, RE] he has caused himself to make [an] offering (dedōrētai) to us (hēmin) of the (ta) great (megista) and (kai) highly esteemed (timia) promises (epaggelmata);
in order that2443 (hina) through (dia) these (toutōn) you may cause yourselves to become (genēsthe) sharing partners (koinōnoi) of Godly (theias) nature (phuseōs), you having fled away from (apophugontes) [the] corruption (phthoras) in (en) the (tēs) cosmos (kosmō), [which, AE] [is] in (en) lust (epithumia)!
2 Pet. 1:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) of him (auto) also (kai) [is] this (touto):
beside you having brought in (pareisenenkantes) all (pasan) haste (spoudēn), to this (touto) choreograph (epichorēgēsate) in (en) to the (tē) belief (pistei) of you (humōn) the (tēn) virtue (aretēn);
but (de) [choreograph, ER] in (en) to the (tē) virtue (aretē), the (tēn) knowledge (gnōsin);
2 Pet. 1:6 (LIT/UBS4) but (de) [choreograph, v5, ER] in (en) to the (tē) knowledge (gnōsei), the (tēn) empowerment (enkrateian);
but (de) [choreograph, v5, ER] in (en) to the (tē) empowerment (enkrateia), the (tēn) endurance (hupomonēn);
but (de) [choreograph, v5, ER] in (en) to the (tē) endurance (hupomonē), the (tēn) piety (eusebeian);
2 Pet. 1:7 (LIT/UBS4) but (de) [choreograph, v5, ER] in (en) to the (tē) piety (eusebeia), the (tēn) brotherly love (philadelphian);
but (de) [choreograph, v5, ER] in (en) to the (tē) brotherly love (philadelphia), the (tēn) love (agapēn)!
2 Pet. 1:8 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), these things (tauta) being under control (huparchonta) to you (humin), and (kai) increasing (pleonazonta), it appoints (kathistēsin) [sic] [you, RE] [to be] absolutely neither (ouk) non-working ones (argous), but nor (oude) unproductive ones (akarpous), in (eis) the (tēn) experiential knowledge (epignōsin) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou)!
2 Pet. 1:9 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) for whom (hō) these things (tauta) are not alongside (mē parestin) [to him, AE] he is (estin) [a] blind one (tuphlos), he being [a] closed-sighted one (muōpazōn), he long ago (palai) having taken (labōn) forgetfulness (lēthēn) of the (tou) cleansing (katharismou) of the (tōn) sins (hamartiōn) of him (autou).
2 Pet. 1:10 (LIT/UBS4) Through which (dio), brothers (adelphoi), make haste (spoudasate) more (mallon) to cause yourselves to make (poieisthai) the (tēn) calling (klēsin), and (kai) calling out (eklogēn), of you (humōn) foundational (bebaian).
Because (gar) doing (poiountes) these things (tauta), you may no, absolutely not, stumble (mē, ou ptaisēte), [as in, AE] time past (pote)!
2 Pet. 1:11 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) thusly (houtōs) shall be choreographed (epichorēgēthēsetai) for you (humin) the (hē) entrance (eisodos) into (eis) the (tēn) ageless (aiōnion) Kingdom932 (basileian) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), and (kai) savior4990 (sōtēros), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou);
(Both
the God and his son Christ Jesus are referred to as
saviors by the apostles. The clear distinction the holy scriptures
make between the roles of the two is that the God
prepared the plan and the
schematic for our salvation
(Heb. 3:1-4; Rom. 3:23-25; Eph. 1:7-9; Luke 1:47; 1 Tim. 1:1, 2:3, 4:10;
2 Tim.
5:31, 13:23; Eph. 5:23; Phil. 3:20; 2 Tim. 1:10; Tit. 1:2-4, 2:13, 3:6;
2 Pet. 1:1, 1:11, 2:20, 3:2, 18; 1 John 4:14).
2 Pet. 1:12 (LIT/UBS4) through whom (dio), constantly (aei), I shall be about (mellēsō) to bring you under remembrance (humas hupomimnēskein) about (peri) these things (toutōn);
and so be it (kaiper), you having seen (eidotas) and (kai) you having been established (estērigmenous) in (en) the (tē) Truth (alētheia) being present (parousē).
2 Pet. 1:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I am led (hēgoumai) of [a] righteous one (dikaion), over (eph’) as long as (hoson) I am (eimi) in (en) this (toutō), the (tō) tent (skēnōmati) [of me, AE], to thoroughly awake (diegeirein) you (humas) in (en) [a] reminder (hupomnēsei);
2 Pet. 1:14 (LIT/UBS4) having seen (eidōs) that (hoti) the (hē) putting away (apothesis) of the (tou) tent (skēnōmatos) of me (mou) is (estin) [coming, AE] quickly (tachinē), down according to as (kathōs) the (ho) lord (kurios) of us (hēmōn) also (kai), Jesus (Iēsous) Christ (Christos), has made obvious (edēlōsen) to me (moi).
2 Pet. 1:15 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I shall make haste (spoudasō) also (kai) to hold (echein) you (hemas) individually (hekostate), to cause yourselves to make (poieisthai) [a] memory (mnēmēn) of the (tēn) things of these (toutōn), with (meta) [the passing, AE] of the (tēn) exodus (exodon) of me (emēn).
2 Pet. 1:16 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), we were absolutely not following out (ou exakolouthēsantes) myths (muthois) having been wisely crafted (sesophismenois)!
BUT (all’), we having been caused to become (genēthentes) ones peering upon (epoptai) the (tēs) greatness (megaleiotētos) of that one (ekeinou), we made known (egnōrisamen) to you (humin) the (tēn) inherently powered work (dunamin) and (kai) presence (parousian) of the (tou) lord (kuriou) of us (hēmōn), Jesus (Iēsou) Christ (Christou).
2 Pet. 1:17 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar), he having received (labōn) alongside (para) of God (theou), of [the] Father (patros), honor (timēn) and (kai) glory (doxan).
But yet (toiasde) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tēs) great comely (megaloprepous) glory (doxēs) [there was, AE] [a] voice (phōnēs) having been brought (enechtheisēs) to him (autō), “This one (houtos) is (estin) the (ho) son (huios) of me (mou), the (ho) beloved one (agapētos) of me (mou), into (eis) whom (hon) I (egō) well-approved (eudokēsa).”
2 Pet. 1:18 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) this (tautēn) [is] the (tēn) voice (phōnēn) we (hēmeis) heard (ēkousamen) having been brought (enechtheisan) out (ex) of heaven (ouranou), we being (ontes) together with (sun) him (autō) in (en) the (tō) holy (hagiō) mountain (orei).
(For
who caused himself to become
the firstborn son of God, see

*7.)
2 Pet. 1:19 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) we hold (echomen) the (ton) prophetic (prophētikon) Word (logon) [to be] foundational (bebaioteron);
for which (hō) you do (poieite) beautifully (kalōs) as (hōs) ones paying attention to (prosechontes) [a] lamp (luchnō) shining (phainonti) in (en) [an] obscure (auchmērō) place (topō);
until (heōs) of which (hou) day (hēmera) it may reflect through (diaugasē), and (kai) [the] light-bearing one (phōsphoros) may rise up (anateilē) in (en) the (tais) hearts (kardiais) of you (humōn);
(See Mal. 4:2)
(For
Jesus Christ being prophesied as a great light coming, the one who would
shed light on the knowledge of God’s Word for a people being caused to
sit down in darkness, see Isa. 9:1-2, 49:1-6; Mat. 4:12-16, 10:26-27;
*Mark 4:21-23; Luke 1:76-79, 2:25-32, 8:16-17, 11:33, 12:1-3; John

2 Pet. 1:20 (LIT/UBS4) we knowing (ginōskontes) this (touto) first (prōton), that (hoti) every (pasa) prophecy (prophēteia) of [a] writing (graphēs) is absolutely not caused to come to pass (ou ginetai) over one’s own letting loose (idias epiluseōs);
2 Pet. 1:21 (LIT/UBS4) because (gar) absolutely not (ou) for [a] desire (thelēmati) of [a] mortal (anthrōpou) was prophecy (prophēteia) brought (ēnechthē) in time past (pote)!
BUT (alla), mortals (anthrōpoi) spoke (elalēsan) being brought (pheromenoi) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of holy (hagiou) Spirit (pneumatos) from (apo) God (theou)!
