2 CORINTHIANS

Chapter 12

Update:  2024.05.30

2 Cor. 12:1 (LIT/UBS4) Is it required (dei) to cause myself to boast (kauchasthai), it being absolutely not mutually beneficial (ou sumpheron)?

But (de), truly (men), I shall cause myself to come (eleusomai) into (eis) appearances (optasias) and (kai) revelations (apokalupseis) of [the] lord (kuriou)!

(For apostle Paul, and other apostles, receiving revelation from Christ Jesus for much of what they preached and taught, see Luke 2:32; Rom. 16:25-27; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 2 Cor. 12:1; Gal. 1:12, 2:1-2; Eph. 3:3; 1 Pet. 1:13; Rev. 1:1-2.)

2 Cor. 12:2 (LIT/UBS4) I have seen (oida) [a] mortal (anthrōpon) in (en) Christ (Christō), before (pro) fourteen (dekatessarōn) years (etōn), (whether (eite) in (en) [the] body (sōmati) I have absolutely not seen (ouk oida), whether (eite) outside (ektos) of the (tou) body (sōmatos) I have absolutely not seen (ouk oida), the (ho) God (theos) has seen (oiden)),

the (ton) [brother, v11:9, ER] like this (toiouton) having been snatched (harpagenta) unto (heōs) [a] third (tritou) heaven (ouranou).

2 Cor. 12:3 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) I have seen (oida) the (ton) [brother, v11:9, ER] like this (toiouton), [a] mortal (anthrōpon), (whether (eite) in (en) [the] body (sōmati), whether (eite) apart from (chōris) the (tou) body (sōmatos), I have absolutely not seen (ouk oida), the (ho) God (theos) has seen (oiden)),

2 Cor. 12:4 (LIT/UBS4) that (hoti) he was snatched (hērpagē) into (eis) the (ton) paradise (paradeison).

And (kai) he heard (ēkousen) unutterable (arrēta) statements (rhēmata) which (ha) [a] mortal (anthrōpō) is absolutely not being able (ouk exon) to speak (lalēsai)!

2 Cor. 12:5 (LIT/UBS4) I shall cause myself to boast (kauchēsomai) over (huper) the (tou) [brother, v11:9, ER] like this (toioutou).

But (de) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of myself (emautou) I shall absolutely not cause myself to boast (ou kauchēsomai), if (ei) not (mē) in (en) the (tais) disabilities (astheneiais) [of me, AE]!

2 Cor. 12:6 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) if perhaps (ean) I may desire (thelēsō) to cause myself to boast (kauchēsasthai), I shall absolutely not cause myself to be (ouk esomai) [a] mindless (aphrōn) [brother, v11:8, ER], because (gar) I shall state (erō) Truth (alētheian)!

But (de) I spare myself (pheidomai) to not (mē) anyone (tis) into (eis) me (eme), [who, AE] may have caused himself to count3049 (logisētai) upon (huper) that which (ho) he sees (blepei) of me (me), or (ē) something (ti) [which, RE] he hears (akouei) out (ex) of me (emou),

2 Cor. 12:7 (LIT/UBS4) through which (dio) also (kai) [are] the (tē) hyperbole (huperbolē) of the (tōn) revelations (apokalupseōn)

In order that (hina) I may not be exalted (mē huperairōmai) there was given (edothē) to the (tē) flesh (sarki) to me (moi) leanness of sight (skolops), [from, AE] [a] messenger (angelos) of Satan (Satana), in order that (hina) it may strike me with [a] fist (me kolaphizē), in order that (hina) I may not be exalted (mē huperairōmai)!

2 Cor. 12:8 (LIT/UBS4) I called alongside (parekalesa) the (ton) Lord (kurion) three times (tris) over (huper) this (toutou), in order that (hina) it may depart away (apostē) from (ap’) me (mou).

2 Cor. 12:9 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) he has stated (eirēken) to me (moi), “The (hē) grace (charis) of me (mou) satisfies (arkei) you (soi), because (gar) the (hē) inherently powered one (dunamis) is completed (teleitai) in (en) [a] disability (astheneia).”

Therefore (oun), I shall cause myself to more hedonistically boast (hēdista mallon kauchēsomai) in (en) the (tais) disabilities (astheneiais) of me (mou), in order that (hina) the (hē) inherent power (dunamis) of the (tou) Christ (Christou) may tent over1981 (episkēnōsē) upon (epi) me (eme)!

2 Cor. 12:10 (LIT/UBS4) Through which (dio) I well-approve (eudokō) in (en) disabilities (astheneiais), in (en) damages (hubresin), in (en) necessities (anankais), in (en) pursuits (diōgmois) and (kai) confinements (stenochōriais) over (huper) Christ (Christou).

Because (gar) when perhaps (hotan) I may be disabled (asthenō), then (tote) I am (eimi) inherently powerful (dunatos).

2 Cor. 12:11 (LIT/UBS4) I have become (gegona) [a] mindless (aphrōn) [brother, v11:9, ER];

you (humeis) constrained (ēnankasate) me (me)!

Because (gar) I (egō) am owing (ōpheilon), under (huph’) [constraining, RE] of you (humōn), to stand together with (sunistasthai) [you, RE].

Because (gar) I lacked (husterēsa) absolutely not one thing (ouden) of the (tōn) superior (huperlian) apostles (apostolōn), if (ei) I am absolutely not one (ouden) also (kai)!

2 Cor. 12:12 (LIT/UBS4) Truly (men), the (ta) signs (sēmeia) of the (tou) apostle (apostolou) were worked down (kateirgasthē) among (en) you (humin), in (en) all (pasē) endurance (hupomonē);

both (te_l) signs (sēmeiois) and (kai) wonders (terasin), and (kai) inherently powered works (dunamesin)!

2 Cor. 12:13 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) what (ti) is (estin) [it, AE] over (huper) [the sake, AE] of which (ho) you were made inferior (hēssōthēte) of the (tas) remaining (loipas) assemblies (ekklēsiais), if (ei) not (mē) that (hoti) I (egō) myself (autos) was absolutely not [a] burden2655 (ou katenarkēsa) of you (humōn)!?

Cause yourselves to be gracious (charisasthe) to me (moi) [because, AE] of the (tēn) unrighteousness (adikian) of this (tautēn).

2 Cor. 12:14 (LIT/UBS4) Behold (idou), this (touto) third (triton) [time, AE] I hold (echō) ready (hetoimōs) to come (elthein) to (pros) you (humas), and (kai) I shall absolutely not be [a] burden2655 (ou katanarkēsō)!

Because (gar) I absolutely do not search (ou zētō) for the things (ta) of you (humōn), BUT (alla), for you (humas)!

Because (gar) the (ta) ones born (tekna) owe (opheilei) to absolutely not gather treasures (ou thēsaurizein) for the (tois) parents (goneusin), BUT (alla), the (hoi) parents (goneis) [owe to gather treasures, RE] for the (tois) ones born (teknois)!

2 Cor. 12:15 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) I (egō) shall hedonistically spend (hēdista dapanēsō), and (kai) I shall be spent out (ekdapanēthēsomai) over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tōn) souls (psuchōn) of you (humōn)!

If (ei) I love (agapō) you (humas) abundantly (perissoterōs), am I loved (agapōmai) inferiorly (hēsson)?

2 Cor. 12:16 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) let it be so (estō), I absolutely did not weigh you down (ou katebarēsa humas)!

BUT (alla), <I being> [[a] brother, v11:9, ER] under control (huparchōn), [an] all-working (panourgos) [brother, v11:9, ER], I [absolutely did not, RE] take (elabon) you (humas) [with, AE] deceit (dolō)!

2 Cor. 12:17 (LIT/UBS4) Through (di’) not (mē) anyone (tina), <of> [brothers, v11:9, ER] whom (hōn) I have sent (apestalka) to (pros) you (humas), of him (autou) did I covet (epleonektēsa) you (humas).

2 Cor. 12:18 (LIT/UBS4) I accosted (parekalesa) Titus (Titon), and (kai) I sent together with (sunapesteila) [him, AE] the (ton) brother (adelphon) [of him, AE].

What, Titus did not covet (mēti epleonektēsen Titos) you (humas)?

Did we absolutely not walk around (ou periepatēsamen) [in, AE] the (tō) same (autō) Spirit (pneumati), [if, AE] absolutely not (ou) [in, AE] the (tois) same (autois) steps (ichnesin)!?

2 Cor. 12:19 (LIT/UBS4) Do you conclude (dokeite) all along (palai) that (hoti) we explain ourselves (apologoumetha) to you (humin)?

We speak (laloumen) down opposite in front (katenanti) of God (theou), in (en) Christ (Christō);

but (de) all (panta) the things (ta) [we speak, RE], beloved (agapētoi) [brothers, v11:9, ER], [we speak, RE] over (huper) [the sake, AE] of the (tēs) [building, AE] of [a] domed-roof house3619 (oikodomēs) of you (humōn)!

(For examples of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and disciples of Christ Jesus NOT selling or bartering the knowledge and things of God for personal gain, or of NOT accepting money or personal gifts for themselves, but rather working with their own hands to provide for their own personal necessary needs, see Mat. 5:42-48, 10:8; Luke 7:19-22, 41-43; Acts 8:9-24, 18:1-3, 20:33-35; Rom. 3:24, 8:32; 1 Cor. 2:12, 4:12, 4:1-13, 9:3-23, 16:1-4; 2 Cor. 11:7, 12:13-19; Eph. 4:28; 1 Thes. 4:11-12; 2 Thes. 3:6-12; 1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:11; 3 John 1:6-7; Rev. 21:6, 22:17)

2 Cor. 12:20 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I am made fearful (phoboumai), somehow (pōs) having come (elthōn) I may no, absolutely not, find (mē ouch heurō) you (humas) [to be] such as (hoious) I desire (thelō), and I (kagō) may be found (heurethō) to you (humin) [to be] such as (hoion) you absolutely do not desire (ou thelete);

somehow (pōs) [may I find, RE] not (mē) rivalry (eris), jealousy (zēlos), passionate (thumoi) [brothers, v11:9, ER], intrigues (eritheiai), [brothers, v11:9, ER] down-talking (katalaliai) [others, AE], rumors (psithurismoi), puffed up (phusiōseis) [brothers, v11:9, ER], instabilities (akatastasiai)!?

2 Cor. 12:21 (LIT/UBS4) Of me (mou) not (mē) having come (elthontos) again (palin), <may> the God (theos) of me (mou) humble (tapeinōsē) me (me) to (pros) you (humas);

and (kai) may I [not, RE] mourn (penthēsō) many (pollous) of the (tōn) [brothers, v11:9, ER] having sinned before (proēmartēkotōn), and (kai) having not repented (mē metanoēsantōn) over (epi) the (tē) uncleanliness (akatharsia), and (kai) fornication (porneia), and (kai) unrestrained excess (aselgeia) which (hē) they habitually practiced (epraxan).
