1 TIMOTHY

Chapter 5

Update:  2024.09.09

1 Tim. 5:1 (LIT/UBS4) Do not strike back over (epiplēxēs) [an] elder (presbuterō), BUT (alla), console (parakalei) as (hōs) [a] father (patera);

[console, ER] younger [males, AE] (neōterous) as (hōs) brothers (adelphous);

1 Tim. 5:2 (LIT/UBS4) [console, v1, ER] elder [females, AE] (presbuteras) as (hōs) mothers (mēteras);

[console, v1, ER] younger [females, AE] (neōteras) as (hōs) sisters (adelphas);

in (en) all (pasē) innocence (hagneia)!

1 Tim. 5:3 (LIT/UBS4) Honor (tima) bereaved ones (chēras), the ones (tas) really (ontōs) [being] bereaved ones (chēras).

1 Tim. 5:4 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) any (tis) bereaved one (chēra) has (echei) ones born (tekna), or (ē) ones to come out (ekgona), let them learn (manthanetōsan),  first (prōton) [from, AE] the (ton) house (oikon) of their own (idion), to be pious (eusebein), and (kai) to give away (apodidonai) repayments (amoibas) to the (tois) predecessors (progonois) [of them, AE].

Because (gar) this (touto) is (estin) able to be received (apodekton) in sight (enōpion) of the (tou) God (theou).

1 Tim. 5:5 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the one (hē) really (ontōs) [being] [a] bereaved one (chēra), and (kai) one having become alone (memonōmenē), has hoped (ēlpiken) upon (epi) God (theon);

and (kai) stays toward (prosmenei) the (tais) prayers of need (deēsesin) and (kai) prayers of well-thankfulness to4335 (proseuchais) [God, AE], night (nuktos) and (kai) day (hēmeras).

1 Tim. 5:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the one (hē) living in pleasure (spatalōsa) has died (tethnēken) [while, AE] living (zōsa)!

1 Tim. 5:7 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) you give these instructions (tauta parangelle), in order that (hina) they may be (ōsin) irreproachable (anepilēmptoi)

1 Tim. 5:8 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) if (ei) anyone (tis) absolutely does not perceive in advance (ou pronoei) [needs, v5, RE] of the ones (tōn) of his own (idiōn), and (kai) mostly (malista) of householders (oikeiōn), he has caused himself to deny (ērnētai) the (tēn) belief (pistin), and (kai) is (estin) [a] worse one than (cheirōn) [an] unbelieving one (apistou)!

1 Tim. 5:9 (LIT/UBS4) <Let> [a] bereaved one (chēra) be recorded (katalegesthō) [as, AE] not having become (mē gegonuia) lesser (elatton) of sixty (hexēkonta) years (etōn) [of age, AE], [having become, RE] [a] female (gunē) of one (henos) male (andros);

1 Tim. 5:10 (LIT/UBS4) one being witnessed to (marturoumenē) in (en) beautiful (kalois) works (ergois);

if (ei) she fed born ones (eteknotrophēsen);

if (ei) she received outsiders (exenodochēsen);

if (ei) she washed (enipsen) [the] feet (podas) of holy ones (hagiōn);

if (ei) she was satisfactory over (epērkesen) ones being pressured (thlibomenois);

if (ei) she followed over (epēkolouthēsen) every (panti) good (agathō) work (ergō)!

1 Tim. 5:11 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) younger (neōteras) bereaved ones (chēras) are requested to be pardoned (paraitou);

because (gar) when perhaps (hotan) they may become wanton down against (katastrēnaisōsin) the (tou) Christ (Christou), they desire (thelousin) to marry (gamein),

1 Tim. 5:12 (LIT/UBS4) they having (echousai) [a] judicial decision (krima) because (hoti) they displaced (ēthetēsan) the (tēn) first (prōtēn) belief (pistin).

1 Tim. 5:13 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) at the same time (hama) they learn (manthanousin) [to be] non-workers (argai) also (kai), causing themselves to go around (perierchomenai) to the (tas) houses (oikias);

but (de) absolutely not (ou) only (monon) non-workers (argai), BUT (alla), babblers (phluaroi) also (kai), and (kai) work-arounders (periergoi), they speaking (lalousai) the things (ta) not (mē) being required (deonta)!

1 Tim. 5:14 (LIT/UBS4) Therefore (oun), I wish (boulomai) younger (neōteras) [bereaved ones, v11, RE] to marry (gamein);

to agonize over children (teknogonein);

to be house masters (oikodespotein);

to give (didonai) but not one (mēdemian) opportunity (aphormēn) to the one (tō) causing himself to lie opposed (antikeimenō) [to them, AE] in favor (charin) of verbal abuse (loidorias)!

1 Tim. 5:15 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) already (ēdē) some (tines) were turned out (exetrapēsan) behind (opisō) the (tou) Satan (Satana).

(For the devil, the *god of this cosmos, coming to steal, kill, and destroy the assembly (ekklēsia), the one body of Christ, and all mortalkind, to cause them to wander away from the one true God and his Word, see Mat. 6:13, 13:19; Mark 1:13a, 4:15, 13:5-6; Luke 13:16, 21:8, 22:3, 31; John 8:44, 10:10a, 13:27; Acts 5:3; 1 Cor. 7:5, 31b; 2 Cor. 2:11, *4:4, 11:13-15; Gal. 1:4; Eph. 4:11-14, 6:11-16; 1 Thes. 2:17-18; 2 Thes. 2:7-12; 1 Tim. 4:1-2, 5:13-15; 2 Tim. 3:13; 1 John 3:11-13, 4:1-6, 5:19; 2 John 1:7; Rev. 2:9, 12-15, 20, 12:7-17; 13:14, 18:21-23, 19:20, 20:3-10)

1 Tim. 5:16 (LIT/UBS4) If (ei) any (tis) believable one (pistē) has (echei) bereaved ones (chēras), let her be satisfactory over (eparkeitō) them (autais), and (kai) <do> not (mē) <let> the (hē) assembly (ekklēsia) be burdened (bareisthō);

in order that (hina) it may be satisfactory (eparkesē) to the ones (tois) really (ontōs) [being] bereaved ones (chērais).

1 Tim. 5:17 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) elders (presbuteroi) having stood beautifully before (kalōs proestōtes) [the assembly, v16, RE], let them be worthy (axiousthōsan) of double (diplēs) honor (timēs), mostly (malista) the ones (hoi) laboring (kopiōntes) in (en) [the] Word (logō) and (kai) teaching (didaskalia)!

1 Tim. 5:18 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) the (hē) writing (graphē) says (legei), “You shall absolutely not muzzle (ou phimōseis) [a] bovine (boun) threshing (aloōnta)!”;

and (kai), “The (ho) worker (ergatēs) [is] one worthy (axios) of the (topu) wage (misthou) of him (autou)!”

(See Deut. 25:4; 1 Tim. 5:18)

1 Tim. 5:19 (LIT/UBS4) Do not receive alongside (mē paradechou) [a] public accusation (katēgorian) down against (kata) [an] elder (presbuterou), if (ei) not (mē) outside (ektos), over (epi) two (duo) or (ē) three (triōn) witnesses (marturōn).

1 Tim. 5:20 (LIT/UBS4) Of the ones (tous) sinning (hamartanontas), reprove (elenche) in sight (enōpion) of all (pantōn), in order that (hina) the (hoi) ones remaining (loipoi) may have (echōsin) fear (phobon) also (kai).

1 Tim. 5:21 (LIT/UBS4) Thoroughly witness to yourself (diamarturomai) in sight (enōpion) of the (tou) God (theou), and (kai) Christ (Christou) Jesus (Iēsou), and (kai) the (tōn) called out (eklektōn) messengers (angelōn), in order that (hina) you may keep watchful guard (phulaxēs) of these things (tauta) without (chōris) [a] prejudgment (prokrimatos), doing (poiōn) not one (mēden) [thing, AE] down on account (kata) of [a] proclivity (prosklisin)!

1 Tim. 5:22 (LIT/UBS4) Put hands upon (cheiras epitithei) no one (mēdeni) quickly (tacheōs);

but nor (mēde) share in (koinōnei) sins (hamartiais) to others (allotriais).

Keep watch (tērei) of yourself (seauton) [to be] innocent (hagnon).

1 Tim. 5:23 (LIT/UBS4) No longer yet (mēketi) drink water (hudropotei), BUT (alla), cause yourself to use (chrō) [a] little (oligō) wine (oinō), through (dia) [the sake, AE] of the (ton) stomach (stomachon), and (kai) the (tas) often (puknas) disabilities (astheneias) of you (sou)!

1 Tim. 5:24 (LIT/UBS4) The (hoi) sins (hamartiai) of some (tinōn) mortals (anthrōpōn) are (eisin) prominent ones (prodēloi), leading before (proagousai) [them, AE] into (eis) judgment (krisin).

But (de) [the sins, RE] to others (tisin) follow over (epakolouthousin) [into judgment, RE] also (kai).

1 Tim. 5:25 (LIT/UBS4) In the same manner (hōsautōs) also (kai), the (ta) beautiful (kala) works (erga) [of some, v24, RE] [are] prominent ones (prodēla);

and (kai) the (ta) [beautiful works, RE] holding (echonta) otherwise (allōs) can absolutely not inherently power themselves (ou dunantai) to be hidden (krubēnai)!
