1 CORINTHIANS
Chapter 2
Update: 2024.09.23
1 Cor. 2:1 (LIT/UBS4) And I (kagō) having come (elthōn) to (pros) you (humas), brothers (adelphoi), I came (ēlthon) absolutely not (ou) down according to (kath’) superiority (huperochēn) of word (logou), or (ē) of wisdom (sophias), reporting down (katangellōn) to you (humin) the (to) Mystery (mustērion) of the (tou) God (theou)!
1 Cor. 2:2 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) I determined (ekrina) to have known (eidenai) absolutely not (ou) anything (ti) among (en) you (humin) if (ei) not (mē) Jesus (Iēsoun) Christ (Christon), and (kai) this (touton) [Jesus, RE] having been staked (estaurōmenon)!
1 Cor. 2:3 (LIT/UBS4) And I (kagō), in (en) [a] disability (astheneia) and (kai) in (en) fear (phobō), and (kai) in (en) much (pollō) trembling (tromō), caused myself to come (egenomēn) to (pros) you (humas).
1 Cor. 2:4 (LIT/UBS4) And (kai) the (ho) Word (logos) of me (mou), and (kai) the (to) preaching (kērugma) of me (mou), [was] absolutely not (ouk) in (en) persuasive (piethoi) words (logois) of wisdom (sophias), BUT (all’), in (en) [an] appointment (apodeixei) of Spirit (pneumatos), and (kai) [in, RE] [a] work of inherent power (dunameōs);
1 Cor. 2:5 (LIT/UBS4) in order that (hina) the (hē) belief (pistis) of you (humōn) may not be (mē ē) in (en) wisdom (sophia) of mortals (anthrōpōn), BUT (all’), in (en) [the] inherent power (dunamei) of God (theou)!
1 Cor. 2:6 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) we speak (laloumen) wisdom (sophian) among (en) the ones (tois) complete (teleiois).
But (de) [we speak, RE] wisdom (sophian) absolutely not (ou) of the (tou) age (aiōnos) of this (toutou), but absolutely neither (oude) of the (tou) chief ones758 (archontōn) of the (tou) age (aiōnos) of this (toutou), the ones (tōn) being idled down2673 (katargoumenōn)!
1 Cor. 2:7 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), we speak (laloumen) of God’s (theou) wisdom (sophian), in (en) [a] mystery (mustēriō), the (tēn) [Mystery, ER] having been hidden away (apokekrummenēn);
which (hēn) [Mystery, ER] the (ho) God (theos) predetermined (proōrisen) before (pro) the (tōn) ages (aiōnōn) [to be] into (eis) [the] glory (doxan) of us (hēmōn);
(the Wisdom of the God – a title of Christ Jesus, the firstborn son of the God. See Mat. 11:19, 12:42, 13:54; Mark 6:2; Luke 2:40, 52, 7:35, 11:31, 11:49, 21:15; Acts 6:3, 9-10, 7:10; *1 Cor. 1:24, 30, 2:4-8, 13, 12:8a; Eph. 1:17-18, *3:8-12; Col. 3:16; James 1:5-6, 3:17; Rev. 5:12.)
1 Cor. 2:8 (LIT/UBS4) which (hēn) [Mystery, v7, ER] absolutely not one (oudeis) of the (tōn) chief ones758 (archontōn) of the (tou) age (aiōnos) of this (toutou) has known (egnōken)!
Because (gar) if (ei) they knew (egnōsan) [[the] Mystery, v7, ER] perhaps (an) they absolutely would not have staked (ouk estaurōsan) the (ton) lord (kurion) of glory (doxēs)!
(For lord of glory coming in the glory of the Father of him, see Mat. 16:27-7:9; 1 Cor. 2:6-8)
1 Cor. 2:9 (LIT/UBS4) BUT (alla), down according to as (kathōs) it has been written (gegraptai), “Things which (ha) [an] eye (ophthalmos) absolutely did not see (ouk eiden) and (kai) [an] ear (ous) absolutely did not hear (ouk ēkousen), and (kai) [things which, RE] absolutely did not come up (ouk anebē) upon (epi) [a] heart (kardian) of [a] mortal (anthrōpou), [are] things which (ha) the (ho) God (theos) made ready (hētoimasen) for the ones (tois) loving (agapōsin) him (auton)!”
(See Isa. 64:4)
1 Cor. 2:10 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (to) God (theos) revealed (apekalupsen) [those things, v9, RE] to us (hēmin) through (dia) the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos).
Because (gar) the (to) Spirit (pneuma) searches (erauna) all things (panta), even (kai) the (ta) deep things (bathē) of the (tou) God (theou).
(For all those who have received a new birth above in God’s promised gift of his paternal holy Spirit (Lev. 26:11-12; John 3:3-8; Acts 1:4; 2 Cor. 6:16-18; *1 Pet. 1:23), and for those paternal sons being taught by God (YHWH) himself, see Isa. 54:13; Jer. 31:31-34; Luke 12:12; John 5:19-20, 6:45, 14:26, 15:26, 16:13-14; 1 Cor. 1:4-8, 2:10, 12:8; 2 Cor. 5:19; Gal. 1:12; Eph. 4:20-21; 1 Thes. 4:9; 2 Tim. 2:7; Heb. 8:8-12, 10:16-17; James 1:5-6; 1 John 2:27, 5:20)
1 Cor. 2:11 (LIT/UBS4) Because (gar) who (tis) of mortals (anthrōpōn) has seen (oiden) the things (ta) of the (tou) mortal (anthrōpou) if (ei) not (mē) the (to) spirit (pneuma) of the (tou) mortal (anthrōpou), the one (to) in (en) him (autō)?
Thusly (houtōs), absolutely no one (oudeis) has known (egnōken) the things (ta) also (kai) of the (tou) God (theou) if (ei) not (mē) [through, v10, RE] the (to) Spirit (pneuma) of the (tou) God (theou) [in him, RE]!
1 Cor. 2:12 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) we absolutely did not receive (ouk elabomen) the (to) spirit (pneuma) of the (tou) cosmos (kosmou), BUT (alla), [we received, RE] the (to) Spirit (pneuma), the (to) [Spirit, RE] out (ek) of the (tou) God (theou);
in order that2443 (hina) we may have seen (eidōmen) the things (ta) having been graciously given (charisthenta) to us (hēmin) under (hupo) [authority, AE] of the (tou) God (theou)!
(For examples of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers, and disciples of Christ Jesus NOT selling or bartering the knowledge and things of God for personal gain, or of NOT accepting money or personal gifts for themselves, but rather working with their own hands to provide for their own personal necessary needs, see Mat. 5:42-48, 10:8; Luke 7:19-22, 41-43; Acts 8:9-24, 18:1-3, 20:33-35; Rom. 3:24, 8:32; 1 Cor. 2:12, 4:12, 4:1-13, 9:3-23, 16:1-4; 2 Cor. 11:7, 12:13-19; Eph. 4:28; 1 Thes. 4:11-12; 2 Thes. 3:6-12; 1 Tim. 3:3; Titus 1:11; 3 John 1:6-7; Rev. 21:6, 22:17)
1 Cor. 2:13 (LIT/UBS4) Which things (ta) we speak (laloumen) also (kai), absolutely not (ou) in (en) words (logois) taught (didaktois) of wisdom (sophias) of mortalkind (anthrōpinēs), BUT (all’), in (en) [words, RE] taught (didaktois) of Spirit (pneumatos) [out of the God, v12, RE];
judging [to speak, RE] together (sunkrinontes) Spirit-based (pneumatikois) [words, RE] for Spirit-based things (pneumatika)!
(For what many people do, the ones who can’t put God’s Word together, see 1 Cor. 2:13; 2 Cor. 10:12)
1 Cor. 2:14 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) [a] soul-based (psuchikos) mortal (anthrōpos) can absolutely not cause himself to receive (ou dechetai) the things (ta) of the (tou) Spirit (pneumatos) of the (tou) God (theou), because (gar) [the Spirit of the God, RE] is (estin) moronism (mōria) to him (autō)!
(For the soul-based, demon-like wisdom of mortalkind see 1 Cor. 2:13-14; *James 3:15; Jude 1:19; John 3:6; Rom. 8:5-8)
And (kai) [[a] soul-based mortal, RE] can absolutely not inherently power himself (ou dunatai) to know (gnōnai) [the Spirit of the God, RE], because (hoti) it is adjudicated350 (anakrinetai) spiritually (pneumatikōs)!
1 Cor. 2:15 (LIT/UBS4) But (de) the (ho) Spirit-based (pneumatikos) [mortal, v14, RE] adjudicates350 (anakrinei) all (panta) the things (ta) [of the Spirit of the God, v14, RE]!
But (de) he (autos) is adjudicated350 (anakrinetai) under (hup’) [authority, AE] of absolutely no one (oudenos)!
1 Cor. 2:16 (LIT/UBS4)Because (gar) who (tis) knew (egnō) [the] mind (noun) of [the] Lord (kuriou)?
Who (hos) shall make [his mind, AE] come together with (sumbibasei) [[the] mind, RE] of him (auton)?
But (de) we (hēmeis) hold (echomen) [the] mind (noun) of Christ (Christou)!
